       "i do not know, my lord." katerina responded a bit shyly. "forgive me if i have insulted you. i –" her cheeks blushed a bit because she was embarrassed about herself. has she made a fool of herself? probably. "– i was told you harbor an interest in me. i did not mean to be presumptuous."

           "there’s a lot of subliminal aversion in your tone..." katherine pointed out although she couldn't blame her. she is aware of what happened to andie's predecessor caroline forbes. unpleasant things that unfortunately seem to come with being damon's more or less voluntary bunny. it made the brunette doppelgänger wonder when damon developed such tendencies (although she does recall that a certain tendency was there even when he was human). 

            "frankly, i'm surprised you ended up a vampire. and not dead." strange, especially because katherine believes this can turn out to be a dangerous development. after all, the brunette is also aware of andie's profession. 

            "i'm looking for something and i'm hoping you might have seen it?"

＂    i  seem  to  remember  already  helping  you  once  before.  in  a  manner  at  least.    ＂      her  presence  when  damon  went  to  visit  an  imprisoned  katherine  couldn’t  exactly  count  as  much  of  a  favour.  she  did  little  to  help.      —-      served  no  𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚕  𝚙𝚞𝚛𝚙𝚘𝚜𝚎  other  than  potential  collateral.  a  lamb  for  klaus  to  𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿  if  caught  entering  an  apartment  other  vampires  couldn’t.  there’s  an  ironic  parallel  to  be  found  in  memory;      𝘵𝘸𝘰  𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯  𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘥    &    𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥,  even  if  one  had  been  less  aware  than  the  other  at  the  time.      ＂    you  might’ve  settled  that  debt  with  damon  when  you  gave  him  the  cure,  but  honestly?  i  would’ve  been  better  off  if  you  just  let  him  choke.    ＂      andie  isn’t  an  idiot,  however.  knowledge  is  𝚙𝚘𝚠𝚎𝚛  and  she  finds  herself  having  more  than  most,  thanks  to  time  spent  as  a  salvatore  brother  sidekick.  she  understands  katherine  is  older,  as  well  as  stronger.  oh,  the  nights  she  had  to  listen  to  damon  ramble  on  about  doppelgangers  and  the  woes  they’d  caused  him.  angering  her  didn’t  seem  smart.  if  being  an  investigative  journalist  had  taught  her  one  thing,  it  was  how  to  recognise  when  to  rise  up    &    when  to  politely  agree.  it  ensured  a  good  result.      ＂    …    what  do  you  need?    ＂

the fact that i'm no longer the same age as the protagonists of novels and films i once connected to is so heartbreaking. there was a time when I looked forward to turning their age. i did. and i also outgrew them. i continue to age, but they don't; never will. the immortality of fiction is beautiful, but cruel.

            silas really always had something to say. again something that bothered her massively, because he was never at a loss for words. it was therefore difficult to feel superior because no matter what she said or did, he took it as a compliment or turned it against her. and if these things weren't the case, he took satisfaction in it. it was truly annoying.

            perhaps it's his tactic of trying to shut her up? and she hated to admit it, but it seemed to work because she glared at him again – something she seemed to do often if she had to interact with him. in any case his attitude was also somehow remarkable. not that she is ever going to say that out loud, and especially not to him.

            her eyes narrowed slightly together, her nervousness mixing with discomfort. she can't have her daughter around. she simply didn't want to have her around. if this goes wrong and silas proves once again that he is a liar, then she doesn't want her to watch. vampire blood cannot heal her, so if she indeed does bleed out, there's no way to help her anyway.

            "i won't do this if she comes. make her leave." and because silas has a way of being creative, she added: "but without hurting her."

            "and please put these things down. it makes me jumpy." katherine demanded with a look at the scalpel. she doesn't trust this young person who is supposed to execute the whole procedure, but she also doesn't trust silas. what if he decides he knows better and starts taking the student's place?

            the brunette inhaled deeply, still not calmed down but trying to compose herself with the right breathing exercise.

            "fine." the word left her lips a bit too pressed and her legs were slightly wobbly when she finally went to the chair. 

            "will it work at all well if my heart beats so fast?" isn't a patient supposed to stay calm and have normal blood pressure? 

tongue clicked on the roof of his mouth, nodding at katherine's remark on not discussing internal, personal matters. silas didn't want to keep reminding people that before qetsiyah fried his brain, he'd been able to read everyone's minds, including their greatest regrets. he knew her—he knew everyone.

"it's a talent." more or so, a habit. fake it till you make it. thousands of years ago, he used it as means to get along but nowadays, he utilized it as a weapon. "you're welcome! i can make you angrier if you'd like." he continued picking up the surgeon tools wes left lying around as though no one but himself knew about the place.

it was cold, colder than the weather outside which was saying a lot since it was the end of summer. a brow quirked up at katherine's panicked stricken look at the mention of nadia. "and i tried talking her out of it." he didn't. "but you know, kids."

the pre-med student with round glasses gave the doppelganger an empathetic smile. one that acknowledges her fear, the sort doctors gave their patient when they expressed being anxious before a procedure. "i know you're nervous but if i do the procedure with you standing up, the blood won't circulate correctly."

silas rolled his eyes and let out an audible groan. "do as she says, katherine." he used the scalpel to gesture to the student.
