Artist statement 4
The idea that I've had for this project is to show how something like the painting could be lost forever, but it could be beneficial. Connecting this to the process of sand art, where for context, is the process of creating elaborate pieces made of sand that usually take days to complete that once finished, the artist would blow it away into nothing. The intention behind this action is to release your thoughts and stresses while making sand art as a way to heal. I wanted to replicate this with my performance art, whereby painting it black, is another way of painting away negative thoughts that I might've had.

Overview of Performance Art and Readings 4
Richard Serra Verb List: With the verb list describing what one could do with or to a material, viewers could create an image in their mind that combines all of the verbs as one piece. The verb list kind of acts like a hint of what the piece looks like being bent, twisted, etc. By only using words in the process of creating, viewers are able to use their own imagination of the piece that is uniquely their own. Body Art performing the Subject by Amelia Jones: Using one's body as art is important and gives artists an option to use their body and gender to make larger statements about the male gaze on female bodies. Artists using their own bodies helps create an influential statement to the viewers that is more obvious. For example, with Yayoi Kusama's performative works, she demonstrates a deeper level of understanding through the use of body language and the 'rules' that society is conditioned to. Through displaying her body, she doesn't only highlight herself but exposes the experience that women go through under the male gaze. The artist using their own bodies as a part of their work highlights their identity from gender, ethnicity, nationality, and more.

Artist Statement 3
The idea that I have for the supercut project is to show the inequality female artists face in the music industry. They face misogyny and sexism and they constantly have to prove their rightful place in the industry as an artist. Furthermore, they are being watched by millions at each moment when one thing could spiral into false and toxic rumors about their songs and bodies. What I wanted to show is how sexism in today's world is reflected in how female artists are perceived by the media and how that contributes to a larger problem in society. This also shows how the media portrays and enforces impossible beauty standards more onto female artists which could possibly lead to defamation more than male artists.

Dawyne "The Rock" Johnson Fights

One Minute Supercut: Project 3
Dawyne Johnson is by far my favorite actor; all his movies are so fun to watch. So, I started with his first ever movie to one of his most recent ones. Every movie I did choose seemed to all have fighting scene, so I put those to use with his own rap song in the back. I feel very proud of this video I think it's fun and it shows the personality of The Rock.

I liked how the video confronts how society views women like how the meaning of being a witch is vague, but there are strict rules of what makes a witch bad or good solely on the basis of how they look

I think the elevator music and the cats really compliments the whole video well!
youtube
The first thing that came to my mind when thinking of supercuts were some of the videos & memes that I find online of people doing funny things or saying weird stuff over & over again. I like to make comedy with the work that I do naturally and I try to think about how I can make something comical in nature in my day-to-day life. Considering the opportunity that was given to me, I wanted to try to make something funny that hits that "sweet spot" in short-form comedy. One of the first few ideas that came to mind was how often it's joked about how upset Gordon Ramsey can get in his popular cooking shows. I hope that this delivers on that enjoyment of seeing a quick video to get a quick laugh!

Cancer is a very big topic in my family. My grandmother and great grandmother both died from cancer. I got diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome, which makes me extremely susceptible to a dozen different cancers. Everything I do, cancer is always in the back of my mind, wondering if the next time I go to the doctors, they'll tell me I have breast cancer, or ovarian cancer, or even skin cancer. When doing this video, I knew I wanted to highlight those who beat cancer. To show that there are people out there who are so strong, that they beat their own bodies, and can live a full life.

I liked how you repeated some of the actions because I think it correlates really well with how someone could create bad habits like fidgeting or picking and more from experiencing mental illnesses

The Loop
Artist statement 2:
For The Loop project, I decided to explore the feeling that comes from body-scan meditation which is something that often gets taught to people diagnosed with depression, anxiety, ptsd, did, and pretty much anyone else who has trouble staying present and calm. It's used as a way to recenter and pull the mind back to reality and focus on what sensations you are feeling: what the sun feels like on your skin, the texture of the things around you, the way your clothes feel resting on your body, your breathing, etc. I definitely took inspiration for some of the close-ups from this video: https://youtu.be/nvr7T4sfads which I highly recommend, but I wanted to find rhythm and colors that were less frantic and disturbing. I used a combination of my sister's hands and clothes and my own. I used the same wash and overlay for all of the gifs in order to maintain the same feeling across, which for a couple of them I do think could have been a little brighter. But, my goal was to make something kind of dreamy but to still seem like that worried attempt to center oneself before losing it, I guess.
