Couldn’t say it better

Your love of Giant Robo brings warmth to my Heart. I'm half your age and I would never b able to get my friends to watch it. At least there's one or two other people out there who like the same things as me.

People just won’t watch it because it’s called “Giant Robo” and just looks plain silly on the surface.  The silliness really is only on the surface, though, and the actual show has an amazing depth to it.  I’ve yet to get someone to actually sit down and watch it who didn’t love it.   

The direction alone should be being studied in animation classes around the world.  Take the show’s key theme of “The Beautiful Night”.  For the heroes it means a night that is brightly lit and free from fear of the future, despite what may have been done in the past to get there.  For the villains it means a true night, blanketed in fear and darkness, but free from the hypocrisy of the current age. 

And this theme is being constantly reflected in the animation itself:

Every single one of those images could fuel an entire essay on the characters and locations depicted and what their position within the light and shadow says about them and the wider plot.

The fact that Giant Robo doesn’t rank in the top of every single “greatest anime” list is a testament to how criminally underrated the show is.  If I didn’t get this point across in my initial recommendation post, let me reiterate:  YOU SHOULD ALL WATCH GIANT ROBO (The Day The Earth Stood Still.  GR: Giant Robo is different and bad).

Also…if you’re half my age…this show came out before you were born.  I feel extra old now XD

Complete raw scans of Yutaka Izubuchi’s first volume of Rune Masquer.  If you enjoy the ornate and grandiose mecha and world of Five Star Stories, you will like this.

Rune Masquer is Izubuchi’s heart and soul poured onto paper, taking his designs and ideas from Panzer World Galient and refining them into a more extravagant vision, much like how Mamoru Nagano transformed his ideas from L-Gaim into FSS (Also like FSS, Rune Masquer received quite a few legendary kits sculpted by Work Shop Cast, one of the most well-known Garage Kit companies known for their FSS sculpts).  Originally serialized in Comic Ryu magazine in the late 80s, this manga was unfortunately cancelled in the early 90s for unknown reasons. Sadly, only one volume of Rune Masquer ever published, back in 1991.  Izubuchi announced plans to continue this manga around 2010, but other than a reissue of the original volume 1 with a different jacket and a digitally colored version of the same first volume split into three parts, he never followed up on his promise.

This was much more time-consuming of a project than I originally expected.  Much gratitude to those who take their time to consistently create scans, I had no idea how much work any of you guys had to go through until I tried it out myself.  

If anyone wants to translate this, you have my blessing.
