I'm still not even there yet in the show but I'm obsessed with Castiel being a victorian woman the last time he was on earth. He's literally trans like, the way joined trill on star trek are trans. Did they know that's what they're saying? Not even an implication he just has been a woman before. He's also kind of neither actually. Because he's an angel. Did the writers hear themselves or were they still trying to make cishetnatural at that point

the MORE supernatural tries to deliberately do something the less it works. so much of supernatural is just generative absence. the angel wings work so fucking well because we only see them a tiny zero point something percent of the time, and then only as shadow. the hellhounds were so terrifying because it was an absence that could rip you to shreds at any moment and they were simultaneously everywhere and nowhere, this kind of ephemeral horror capable of killing in an all-too-visceral way. absence wreaking violence on the flesh. and as soon as they bring in the stupid holy fire hellhound glasses it's just like......... Oh that's just a dog. it's just a bad cgi dog. utterly forgettable. like. supernatural CANNOT look straight-on at itself or it all falls apart and the best parts of supernatural are truly always the spaces n pockmarks n time gaps n peripheral shots you do not, cannot directly see

Not to Superwholock on main but imagine being a true crime fan who also enjoys urban fantasy pulp fiction in the Supernatural universe.  You pick up a cheap paperback copy of “Skin” by Carver Edlund (book 6 of the “Supernatural” series) and realize, hey, this is clearly a fictionalized account of Dean Winchester’s first known killings.  The book doesn’t have any last names or specific dates but everything from the names of the victims to the fact that Sam went to college for pre-law matches up so it’s not exactly subtle.  Still, this book is pretty worn, and the murders were in 2005.  Did this Edlund guy write a book about how Dean Winchester is a hero, actually, while his killings were still in the news?  That seems a little gauche.  You check the copyright date to see how long he waited before publishing.

The book came out years before the St. Louis killings.  Wtf.
