Cyprian I'm begging you

One of the most frustrating things about Cyprian's immediate judgement of Will after finding out he's the Dark King is that it seems like he never learned from his mistakes. He hated Violet at first because she was a Lion, but after spending time with her he comes to enjoy her company. Did he not learn that judging someone based on their title isn't a reliable approach? What about James, who helped Will and saved Cyprian? Yes Cyprian doesn't accept James as a brother and is still wary of him, but surely he cannot look past all the things James has done in his interest. He opened the gate twice even though it drained him (although James did that for Will, but Cyprian wouldn't know that). . He saved Cyprian and the others from the bandits at the dig (again, James probably did that mostly for Will, but what would Cyprian know about that?).

HE'S SO DISTRUSTFUL OF STRANGERS YET HE TRUSTED VISANDER'S WORDS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY? CYPRIAN MY BOY WAKE UP.

Cyprian: a repressed kid

I don't think it's talked about enough how Cyprian spent potentially years living under James's shadow after he was thrown out of the Hall.

Cyprian is probably the best novitiate because he had to live up to the expectations created from James's talents.

Amongst other reasons, he probably has a hard time getting along with James because he sees him as the reason why he had to work hard for a sliver of Jannick's approval.

Cyprian doesn't want to have anything in common to James because he wants to be seen as his own individual person - which may have stemmed from having to carry on James's 'legacy'

I think when Cyprian realises self-discipline and chastity vows aren't the only important things in life, he'll slowly come to accept James. For both who he is as a Reborn and as his brother.

Can we talk about Marcus for a second…

(Kind of self indulgent and probably doesn’t make much sense)

He’s the character that’s constantly brought up, yet we know little to nothing about him. Who he was before getting kidnapped, what his relationship with Cyprian looked like, how he and Justice interacted and so much more.

Sure we have little glimpses of these, such as his journal and little mentions by Cyprian and Justice, but we don’t know what he was truly.

I think the cherry on top is truly that we have no idea what he looks like. We have trading cards for a bunch of other characters yet no actual description of Marcus. I don’t remember much of the text describing him.

In every sense, he really is a shadow. Something that always follows you around, but you don’t really know anything about it.

I’m aware that book three will not have any Marcus chapter’s because well, he’s dead, but if there is any information about Marcus you bet I will scream like how I did when I read page 170.
