since apparently it’s a crime to be jewish on my tumblr, i am… going to be offensively jewish on main again.
one thing that makes me sad? how boring the infernal contracts actually look.
jewish people hang our marriage contracts in our house (and in very religious folks’ homes, it may sincerely be the only thing hanging on the walls) and there are millennias old traditions in how they are done up. specific wordings, schools of style (paper cutting is very in style as we speak, but watercolors and tempera also saw their popularity rise and wane at different times in history and depending on location.)
look at how crazy ornate they are, both now and historically:

they are called ketubah. these are generally gifted by the husband to their wife on the wedding day and outline all the commitments he is required to perform for her both ritually and physically (yes, that) or she is allowed to petition for a get, or a divorce contract from her rabbi and the local beit din (that’s a jewish court, in the most basic senses.)
there was such a fun opportunity there and they fucking missed it.
