To the Starry Island (Park Kwang-su, 1993)

a man travels back with his friend to their home island to bury his friend’s father. they're denied because of things that happened during the korean war, namely informing and betrayal. we then see the events of those years and what a complex, no innocent parties shitshow it all was. actors play themselves and their parents across the two eras. how eternal these wounds are, how they run through everything.
