They stopped dead in their tracks, halfway down the paved trail through the park. Rosé Champagne’s brows furrowed a bit as they thought, and they wrung the strap of their bag through their hands.

🌹     “Um. I guess there is someone? But we don’t really talk anymore...”

They glanced up, squaring their shoulders and forcing a weak smile.

🌹     “It doesn’t really matter! He moved away from the city anyway, I think. The last time I saw him was-...”

They stopped themselves, their gaze darting around, looking at nothing in particular as they shuffled memories around in their head. They began to stutter.

((Since they're gingerbread cookies, I don't have specific ages for them in years. But, all the ocs on this blog are full grown adults; Rosé Champagne Cookie, Burnt Cookie, Candy Heart Cookie, Powdered Doughnut, and Honeydew Cookie.

((If you're looking for a sort of mental age for them, Rosé would be the youngest, somewhere in their early 20s. Burnt and Candy Heart are older in their late 20s or early 30s. Honeydew and Powdered Doughtnut are older than the rest in their mid-to-late 30s.))

((I had originally created Candy Heart Cookie to be a pretty flawed character.

((Someone who on the surface is good-natured but has a lot of things that they need to work on. They’re loud and intense and a little narcissistic (who isn’t, after becoming a well-recognizable face?). Their need to be in the spotlight was supposed to be their only motivating factor, and would be a source of a lot of conflict.

((For example, they’d be a very easy vessel for the Dark Enchantress under the promise of never-ending fame and recognition. And it’s exactly why Honeydew Cookie is so interested in working with them.))

Rosé stepped through the door, locking it with a soft click. 

They stepped lightly through the dark apartment and tiptoed around the couch in an attempt not to wake Burnt Cookie, who was sprawled out under a throw blanket. And they would have gotten past him silently were it not for their pet, Marshnyallow.

Marshnyallow practically yowled at the sight of Rosé, indignantly planting his tiny paws in front of them. How dare they not be home when he needed them most. How dare they take so long to come home and give him his second dinner. Burnt Cookie certainly doesn’t do it. Rosé Champagne shushed the tiny marshmallow cat, but the interaction just invited more loud meowing. Burnt stirred and he lifted his arm from over his eyes. He sat forward and offered a small but eased smile towards his roommate.

     “Hey, Rosy. Did you just make it back?”

     “…Yeah, I did.”

Burnt’s eyes focused finally, and he met Rosé’s upset frown with his own, now aware of their troubled expression.

     “Are you okay?”

A beat passed between the two cookies.

Burnt waited patiently.

     “I saw Honeydew Cookie.”

Burnt sat forward, his eyes now dark.

     “What happened?”

     “Nothing.”

     “What do you mean nothing?”

     “I mean nothing. We didn’t talk. He didn’t approach me. I just saw him. We locked eyes and he walked away.”

Another uncomfortably long silence hung in the air. Rosé Champagne now walked around the couch to sit next to Burnt. Burnt shifted a bit, turning to face them.

     “Is… Is that what you would have preferred to happen?”

With a shrug, Rosy spoke, almost at a whisper.

     “I’m not sure. I don’t think I would have wanted him to approach me and yell at me or anything. But I can’t help but wonder if he thinks about me anymore. If I’m even a thought to him. Or if he’s just moved on—stringing along some other bright-eyed artist in his stupid schemes and if I could just warn them before they waste their time like I did—"

     “Hey.”

Burnt sets a hand down on Rosé Champagne’s shoulder and pulls them closer into a side hug. He leans his chin on top of their head, fingers tight.

     “He’s not your problem anymore. You’ve moved past it.”

Burnt rubs his hand over their shoulder, trying his best to comfort them. He wasn’t so good at saying the right things and he knows this. So instead, he opts for physical comfort instead.

     “Why don’t you go sleep it off, and if you want to talk more about it tomorrow with a clear head, we can?”

Rosé Champagne Cookie wants to say so many things.

They can’t find the energy to say anything.

Instead, they just nod.

Burnt releases his grip on Rosé’s shoulders, and he sits and watches as the other cookie stands and pathetically slumps towards their bedroom. Rosé stops, stares down at the floor in silence for what seems like a minute, and then they lift their head, meeting Burnt’s eyes.

     “Will you come with me? To bed, I mean. I don’t want to be alone.”

He’s very clearly taken back, but without waiting to think about it, Burnt stands, gathering his blanket and pillow under one arm.

Rosé stretches a hand out for Burnt to grab.

He does.

✍ : What is your muse’s handwriting like? Is it neat? Sloppy? Fancy?

ᴡʜᴀᴛ ɪs ᴛʜᴇɪʀ ʜᴀɴᴅᴡʀɪᴛɪɴɢ ʟɪᴋᴇ? ɪs ɪᴛ ɴᴇᴀᴛ? sʟᴏᴘᴘʏ? ғᴀɴᴄʏ?

Rosé has very small neat handwriting with rounded letters. Like any of the art that they do, they write meticulously and take extra precautions to make sure it’s neat and done in a way that can be read later. Though, because they write so small, it winds up being difficult to read at a distance anyway. They prefer to use thin or sharp writing utensils, so their lettering is always well defined and thin.

Burnt writes in a sort of messy faux cursive--he writes in script but does so quickly without lifting the pencil from the paper. All the letters are connected, and as a result it can get difficult to read with what looks like scribbles across all the letters. He also has a heavy hand when writing, so the letters are dark and sometimes blended together too.

Candy Heart has a similar handwriting to Cotton Candy, very neat and looping. They share the same habit of dotting the i’s with quick v-shaped marks (that do admirably look like little hearts), and when writing they have a very poetic way with words. Though, Candy Heart just can’t stand writing in anything but black pen. Pencil smudges too much for them and the colorful gel pens their sister uses just gets on their nerves.

Powdered Doughnut doesn’t write in the Latin Alphabet--they would try if they knew Earth languages better, but for now all her documents and notes are written in Doughnut. However, for the standards of their home planet, Powdered Doughnut has neat and almost beautifully artistic handwriting. Almost comically uncharacteristic of what the regular standard of handwriting for medical officials.

Honeydew has tall and thin handwriting with the letters all crunched together. It’s not sloppy, just difficult to decipher if you don’t know what you’re supposed to be reading. Which is probably very characteristic of him.

Rosé Champagne began to fidget endlessly, shoulders squared as they attempted to think up any way to get out of answering. 

A vague answer, a redirected question, a RIDDLE, anything.

Almost against their own accord, their mouth opened, and tears began pooling in the corners of their eyes.

“I knew a Cookie when I first began doing art, who I became very attached to. I considered him a partner, I kind of fell for him... It’s difficult loving someone with your whole heart who doesn’t return the same sentiment. Even more so when they never viewed you as anything more than a means to an end.”

Rosé Champagne doesn’t speak any further on the topic, a soft hiccup caught in their throat.

Rosé’s words bite and their tone is harsh and cold, compared to their normal upbeat disposition. Tears well in the corners of their eyes. They raise their shoulders, curling into themselves as they look away.

“Maybe I’m too nice, too trusting, and I’m setting myself up to get crushed all over again.”

“Funnel Cake Cookie may have done bad things in his past. But at least he’s made some strides to fix his behavior. That’s more than I can say for-... others.”

Shuddering out to hide a sob, Rosé Champagne turns their head, trying to hide in their own hood.
