Music Taste The RE Characters Give Me Vibes Of Part One:

Chris Redfield: When he was a teen, I feel like he was very much into Bowie, Journey, and other popular 80's pop stars. After Raccoon City, especially as he became more and more obsessive with fighting bioterrorism and giving up hope of living his life in peace, he rarely turned on the stereo unless one of his teammates wanted to listen to something. But every once in a while, he'll pop in one of his CDs and let himself drift back to a time when things were simpler.

Claire Redfield: She gives me the vibes of Blue October, P!NK, and Regina Spector mostly. Maybe some Alanis Morissette if she's in the mood. She fills in the void of silence every opportunity she has. She loves bopping along and singing to the songs, letting herself feel young and goofy.

Jill Valentine: She absolutely loves Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. I feel like she would also listen to KISS, Led Zeppelin, The Pretty Reckless, and Jem if she's in the mood. If she really loves the song she'll sing along and air guitar the solos that come up, otherwise she just bops along.

Leon S. Kennedy: He gives me the vibes that he doesn't listen to a specific artist but listens to love songs like the sap he is. Peggy Lee and The Fray are the two artists that pop up the most, but his two favorite songs are "I Can't Help Falling In Love" and "I Can't Smile Without You".

Sherry Birkin: Name a 90's pop artist or boy band. Seriously. Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Spice Girls, Mariah Carey, Madonna, NSYNC, if it's from her childhood she will listen to it on repeat. It brings her back to a time when her parents would indulge her and get her the newest cassette tapes and CDs. The few times they went out to the movies together as a family. When things were good. She had so little control over her life, you can pry her music from her lifeless corpse.

Albert Wesker: Now he does give me the vibes that he will tell everyone that he only listens to classical music and orchestra, the real music, and tout the superiority of it. It's what he grew up listening to under the watchful eyes of the Umbrella scientists, raised in Project W, never knowing he was a human lab rat. But in reality, he found it to be very boring. He wasn't exactly a fan of the music his niece Sherry so dearly loved, but he did love the music his comrade William Birkin introduced him to. The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Eagles, The Who, and the Bee Gees were all bands that his guardians detested, but Wesker felt something flicker in his chest when he listened to them. Can't be nostalgia as he never listened to them. Was it longing? A sense of wonder? Regardless, those were feelings he long suppressed when he rose from the dead, and truly became the monster Spencer wanted him to be.

William Birkin: Well, a lot of it is listed above in Wesker's category. William loved all kinds of music from the 70s. Rock & Roll, Disco, it didn't matter to him. It was all so lively and invigorating. Something that he greatly missed out on as he doubled down on his studies and his goal of becoming the youngest, most successful biologist and virologist of his time. Something that he was narrowly bested by Wesker.

Dedicated to those of you who’ve in any way caused or encouraged non-ironic Georgina feelings, because I refuse to deal with this alone. Text version of the tracklist and commentary under the cut:

1. “Bang Bang Bang Bang,” Sohodolls. So ‘Bang’ isn’t actually being used in this song as a euphemism for sex, but as onomatopoeia for a gunshot but… i think it works either way, especially with the portrait of the fucked up family painted at the beginning and then just totally jumping away from that for the rest

2. “Mayhem,” Halestorm. A little mayhem never hurt anyone/When I'm gonna get some?/A little bedlam 'til I'm coming undone/Where I'm gonna get some?

3. “Crash And Burn Girl,” Robyn. You should have a sticker on you saying, "Warning Keep Out"/You're the kind of girl that'll mess you up for life

I was thinking a lot about substance abuse and its place in Georgina’s narrative and, like, the way that (like with every other character) it’s never taken seriously that she’s struggling with it, and about that sense of obsession and loss of control, and this song plays it very straight but… there’s something there

12. “Jenny (I Wanna Ruin Our Friendship),” Studio Killers. Do I think Georgina even let herself know this much about her feelings? No. Is this song still here? Yes

13. “Blow Your Mind (Mwah),” Dua Lipa.

14. “Michelle,” Sir Chloe. And we pause, to switch povs to the outside for a moment. You know just how to be cruel/When you shake your hips that way/I don't care what you say/Michelle, Michelle/You are a monster from Hell

19. “good 4 u,” Olivia Rodrigo. You look happy and healthy, not me/If you ever cared to ask/Good for you/You're doin' great out there without me, baby. Post-s1 seregina, mostly. But a little dangina to it too

20. “Let’s Be Friends,” Emily Osment. Everyone knows I'm getting my way/It doesn't matter what you say

23. “Bust Your Kneecaps,” Pomplamoose. Georgina is a terrible and obsessive ex. Also the connections to organized crime, if you’re reading it the other way

24. “Bury Me Facedown,” grandson. I really am surprised I can’t remember a Blair one liner about how Georgina is like a bad penny

25. “Runs In The Family,” Amanda Palmer. I say it runs in the family/This family that carries me to such great lengths/To open my legs up to anyone who'll have me/It runs in the family, I come by it honestly

26. “Plump,” Hole. There are so many things we don’t really know about why Georgina kept Milo, or about how her parents influenced her taking her, or about what she was like as a parent, or about how she felt about becoming a parent and… yeah

27. “Hot Mess,” Cobra Starship. If you're dancing up on tables/You go, you go, you got it, girl/Say that you're unstable/You go coco, you got it, girl

28. “Versions of Violence,” Alanis Morissette. Okay look this is significantly just a list of signs of emotional abuse and like. What is more Georgina than headfuckery (and herself being equally screwed up)

29. “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got,” Fergie, Q-Tip, GoonRock. A little party never killed nobody/So we gon' dance until we drop/A little party never killed nobody/Right here, right now's all we got

30. “Sin Wagon,” The Chicks. This was the first or second song on here—I was thinking of just throwing a mainstream worship song in here and then cutting back to party and mayhem, just for the dissonance, and then I remembered this and the ‘Jesus and I have redefined our relationship’ vibes were,,, perfect. Of course, the fiddles it starts with were dissonance enough on their own, and the overall work comes back to that same ‘I’m gonna burn it all down because fuck it, I deserve it’ so… here it is.
