REVEALED: 27 minutes of ‘adult’ content removed from Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal by Censor Board in Bangladesh
The Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal is a huge blockbuster despite the ‘A’ rating and excessive run time of 3 hours and 23 minutes. The film was riddled with disturbing violent scenes, a few intimate sequences and moments and dialogues that shocked the audience. This shock value along with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s expert direction made the film worth watching for many moviegoers. There were reports of moviegoers watching Animal repeatedly especially for its adult content.
Tumblr media
Hence, it’ll be surprising for many to know that these shocking scenes and dialogues are absent in the version of Animal which has been shown in the cinema halls of Bangladesh. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The Bangladesh Film Censor Board made it clear that the movie cannot release unless certain ‘adult’ scenes were chopped off. The makers agreed. In the process, some 27 minutes of the content got censored. The run time of Animal in Bangladesh is 2 hours and 56 minutes.” The source continued, “As expected, the audience wasn’t happy like their Indian counterparts as the censored version of Animal was devoid of the shock value. Moreover, it had a late release in the country, on December 7. In India and elsewhere, it arrived in cinemas on December 1.”
Another source said, “Even Salaar, rated ‘A’ in India, hasn’t got a release in Bangladesh. It remains to be seen if it can be released next week there. Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki, however, had a day and date release in Bangladesh as the rest of the world.”
Bollywood Hungama was also the first one to report that in India, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) handed over the ‘A’ certificate to the makers of Animal after they removed close-up shots in an intimate scene and ‘suitably’ modified cuss words. A few more changes were also implemented which thankfully, didn’t affect the narrative or impact.
Bollywood Hungama also exclusively reported that Pathaan became the first Bollywood film to be released in Bangladesh. The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer released in the neighbouring country on May 12 this year followed by Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan on August 27.
Besides Ranbir Kapoor, Animal also starred Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and Triptii Dimri.

Scheduled for a February 9 release, the film, featuring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, has undergone scrutiny from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), resulting in noteworthy modifications.
The CBFC’s evaluation led to a 25% reduction in a pivotal lovemaking scene, with 9 seconds of the sequence being censored. This alteration transformed the intimate moment’s original 36-second duration into a condensed 27-second version. Interactive Workshop Unveils the Dynamics of Censorship in Cinema at the 16th Global Film Festival Noida 2023
Tumblr media
Noida: The 16th Edition of the Global Film Festival Noida 2023 played host to an insightful workshop shedding light on the intricacies of film censorship, conducted by Ms. Rochika Agarwal, a senior member of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The workshop aimed to deepen the understanding of the role of the censor board and the significance of various film certifications.
Ms. Rochika Agarwal, with her extensive experience, elucidated the functioning of the censor board and emphasized the importance of film certifications, ranging from Adult Only (A certificate) to U/A, highlighting the responsibility bestowed upon the board by the Government of India. She underscored that censorship is not merely a job but a societal responsibility aimed at exploring fundamental reasons behind content censorship, considering cultural, societal, and ethical perspectives.
During the workshop, Ms. Agarwal directed attention to the necessity of government certification for movies, asserting that it aligns with the broader interests of society. She elaborated on the diverse categories of film certifications that exist in the film industry, acknowledging the variations in criteria across countries and regions, ensuring content aligns with cultural and regional standards without targeting specific towns or demographics.
Addressing the film industry’s dynamics, Ms. Agarwal emphasized the dual responsibility of movie production. While films are meant to be produced, production houses must exercise moderation, especially in instances involving excessive violence or nudity. Drawing from her experience, she shared instances where production houses disagreed with censor board decisions, leading to the classification of movies under the adult category.
The workshop, hosted by Assistant Professor Shashank Sharma, provided a platform for students and enthusiasts to engage with a seasoned expert in the field. The session concluded with a memento presentation by Harsh Kumar, acknowledging Ms. Rochika Agarwal’s valuable insights and contributions to the discourse on film censorship.
The 16th Global Film Festival Noida continues to serve as a catalyst for knowledge exchange and insightful discussions on various facets of the film industry, bridging the gap between theory and practical understanding.

SCOOP: Varun Dhawan’s next with Atlee titled Baby John
If reports are to be believed, the actioner will be called Baby John. Yesterday, the makers of the film got the Censor Certificate for its teaser from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). That’s when the word spread about its quirky and unique title. Reports also state that Baby John ‘s teaser will be unveiled in a few days, most probably on Saturday, January 27.
Apart from Varun Dhawan, Baby John also stars Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi and Jackie Shroff. It is directed by Kalees and is backed by Atlee and Priya Atlee’s A For Apple Studios, Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios and Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios. It is the remake of Atlee’s 2016 directorial Theri, starring Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson.
The film went on floors in August last year in Mumbai, followed by an extensive schedule in Kochi. As per reports, Varun suffered an injury in the Mumbai schedule. The casting is significant as Varun will be seen in an out-and-out massy action role for the first time. Meanwhile, Keerthy Suresh is a popular name even for Hindi-speaking markets and this marks her debut Bollywood film. Wamiqa Gabbi, on the other hand, went on a high in 2023 with the success of her web show Jubilee and her web film, Khufiya.
It now remains to be seen when Baby John will be released in cinemas and whether the release date will be unveiled in the teaser.

Director of OMG2 reveals that the OTT version of the film will also be censored
OMG2 will stream on Netflix from October 8 and has become the most awaited OTT release of the year already. The movie has garnered a great response in the theatres and earned significantly. There were 27 cuts imposed on the movie by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) but it was expected that the OTT version would be uncensored.
In a latest interview with a leading media house, the director of the movie Amit Rai cleared that the OTT version will have the said cuts in place. The director cleared that the said scenes were of a sexual nature and hence they were cut off in the first place. Further, he said, “I don’t know what their apprehensions are. They (the streaming platform) will show the same version that the Censor Board passed. Ab ispe aur kya hi kar sakte hain? Saare desh ne chilla chilla ke bola par phir bhi Censor Board ko sunaayi nahin de raha, toh koi kuch nahin kar sakta.”
He however said that the CBFC is a hypocrite and that it cut off the scene of a condon advertisement from OMG2. “When I watched Gadar 2 in theatre, which is a U/A certificate film, a condom ad in which Kartik Aaryan asks a girl about her preferred condom flavor played before the film started. That can be shown? It is pure hypocrisy. I am not against any film, but didn’t Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) have so many kissing scenes? Was it okay for the kids to watch that?” the director said in a disappointing tone.
OMG stars Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles and is based on the story of a father and son who land in trouble and knock on the doors of the court for justice.

Five years later, the CBFC, however, asked ‘Ghapa Ghap’ to be censored from an upcoming film, Jogira Sara Ra Ra.
Tumblr media
Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Neha Sharma, Jogira Sara Ra Ra has been passed with a U/A certificate and 7 cuts.
