All at once, the party became too goddamn loud.

Someone brought an amp and Dewdrop’s guitar out and all of a sudden, they were being treated to the most horrific hell sounds from the aforementioned instrument while the offending ghoul laughed and laughed. Siblings were getting more and more animated as more and more liquor became consumed and those who hadn’t found someone to make out with were playing drinking games on the ornate mahogany table. You could feel the headache creep up your spine and start to settle at the base of your skull, so you set your punch down (what was even in this stuff?) and stepped out. After you shut the door behind you, the party became wonderfully muffled as you wandered down the cloister towards the courtyard. Finally, you had traveled enough that the chirp of crickets was the only sound filling the air, the hot day finally surrendering to a pleasantly warm summer night. You walked out a few yards onto the grass after slipping off your party shoes and luxuriated in the cool blades beneath your feet and the bliss of finally being alone.

Or so you thought.

“Hey,” the voice comes from behind you suddenly and you spin in place, cussing loudly. Reclining on a lawn chair lounge was a ghoulette with crooked smile on her lips. Her head was cocked slightly to the side, causing the riot of blonde curls that erupted from it to bounce. You could see her fangs peeking out as her smile widened.

Devotional Scripture:

Proverbs 24:23 (KJV): 23 These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect for persons in judgment. Proverbs 24:23 (AMP): 23 These also are sayings of the wise. To discriminate and be partial, having respect for persons in judging, is not good.

Thought for the Day

This verse is addressed to the wise, who are told not to discriminate or show partiality when sitting in a position of judgment. To make a fair judgment about anything, there first must be laws that are considered the standard in a situation. The standard for Christians consists of God's laws that are recorded in the Bible. These rules and commandments were given so that people could live blessed and peaceable lives. God's laws preserve order on earth and also show man his sin and need for a Savior. Those who walk in the Spirit, fulfill the law by loving others. They reap the blessings that come from walking in God's ways.

The Bible outlines various penalties for breaking God's laws. The ultimate penalty for sinners is that they will go to hell. I want to repeat what has been included in previous verses, because of its utmost importance. The good news is that Jesus, the son of God, came to the earth and died on the cross, giving Himself as the only sacrifice that could make atonement for our sins. He was raised from the dead and is now seated at the right hand of God. As the ultimate Judge, He is not a respecter of persons. What He will do for one, He will do for another. All who come to God through Jesus will be pardoned, no matter what sin they have committed. "But God commandeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more than, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life" (Romans 5:8-10).

America's founding fathers were Christians and based much of their legal structure on the Bible's moral laws. Many laws in the U.S. are based directly on laws found in Deuteronomy. To our detriment, many sound laws have been altered or abandoned. Scripture describes times such as ours: "And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time" (Daniel 7:25).

Our present-day judicial system has drifted from its original intent of protecting the innocent and convicting the wicked. Today, the law is being exploited by some people who want to use it for gain. Many are seeking outlandish settlements, that in the end, all people will pay for. Through unfair settlements such as these, lawyers are the ones most rewarded. Of course, not all lawyers are greedy. Many good lawyers seek to help and serve their clients. However, due to a faulty legal system, the protection of the innocent has often been overruled, while criminals are not justly dealt with. We need to return to Biblical principles and shape our laws accordingly if we desire to see justice in our land. "The God of Israel said...He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God" (2 Samuel 23:3). "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do, right?" (Genesis 18:25b).

Prayer Devotional for the Day

Dear heavenly Father, I am eternally grateful that You have forgiven me of my sins and that You paid the price for them on the cross. Lord, I now want to serve You faithfully every day. I am also thankful that You are a righteous judge and I can always commit my case to You, and You will treat me fairly in everything. Since You are no respecter of persons, You will do this for all who look to You. Lord, I pray that as a nation, we will be given righteous judges so that all people will receive justice in the courts of our land. I ask this in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Current :

According to the BBC article titled "Israel Gaza War: History of the Conflict Explained," the Palestinian militant organization Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7 by infiltrating local communities along the Gaza Strip with hundreds of guns (BBC).

According to the country's military (BBC), at least 1,400 Israelis have killed, and 199 personnel and civilians, including women and children, are being held as hostages in Gaza.

The Israeli military has conducted countless airstrikes against Gaza, killing more than 2,700 Palestinians, and has imposed a complete siege on the area, depriving it of food, fuel, and other necessities (BBC). It is also building up its soldiers near the Gaza border, and the Palestinians are preparing for a ground operation that could result in a great number of further casualties (BBC; October 16, 2023).

Background :

"The Israel-Palestine Conflict can be traced back to the 19th century. In 1947, the United Nations adopted the 'Resolution 181,' also known as the Partition Plan, with the purpose of dividing the British Mandate of Palestine into two states of Arab and Jewish" ( "Israeli-Palestinian Conflict," released by the Center for Preventive Action on October 13, the year 2023).

The contemporary Palestinian and Israeli territories were formerly ruled by the Ottoman Empire before being occupied by the British, per Ginat's (2018) research (see "British Mandate for Palestine" by Avital Ginat, 2018).

Unfinity Update to the Un-tensity Scale!

Hiya everyone! Some time ago I compiled the complete Un-tensity Scale for the un-cards from Magic: the Gathering. These cards don’t work under the normal rules, so I compiled the list to divide them into how close to being rules-compliant they are, from the ones that could work without a problem to those that require you to balance cards on your head. The latest unset, Unfinity, came out a few days ago, so I updated the list! In this post you can find the placements of the Unfinity un-cards, but you can also check out the complete Un-tensity Scale if you want!

Level 1: Basically Black Border — Cards that perfectly work under the current Magic rules.

Level 3: Experimental — Cards with experimental mechanics, most of which have varying levels of rules issues, but are generally fine when played.

Changes:

Do-It-Yourself Seraph and Socketed Sprocketer go from Level 2 to Level 1, thanks to Exchange of Words and Centaur of Attention respectively being black bordered!

Thoughts on some placements:

Fluros of Myra’s Marvels (level 1): While this card technically works in black border, it is acorn because the whole partner cycle is acorn, as they decided to be consistent with this cycle’s acornness. However, I don’t think this one has power level issues.

Killer Cosplay and Gallery of Legends (level 1): Both can make copies of creature cards. While the mechanic can work in black border, it has slow play issues, because it asks you to have an encyclopedic knowledge of the 20000+ cards that exist in the game, and, especially in the case of Killer Cosplay, it is a dangerous ability to make legal in Legacy/Vintage.

Tug of War (level 1): another card that technically works within the rules, it’s acorn because now subgames are deemed acorn. I can understand that: subgames can be a logistical nightmare in black border games, where the participants probably want a less messy experience. In acorn games however, this card is a blast, just like all other subgame cards!

Scooch (level 2): Scooch can’t be black border because you can’t target dice rolls! However, in a wordier way it might work outside of acorn, so in level 2 it goes.

Goblin Blastronauts (level 2): This card asks you to copy spells or abilities that already resolved, so it doesn’t work within the rules, even though it’s extremely intuitive and probably closer to black border than the level 3 stuff.

Nearby Planet (level 2): Nearby Planet has some rules issues from what I understand, but it’s acorn mostly because it might have been a dangerous card to put in tournament formats, as its level of synergy is super high.

Gift Shop and Push Your Luck (level 2): Both are level 2 just because the Teddy Bear token is pink. Literally just that. So, my thoughts about them are similar to those on Water Gun Balloon Game and Sword of Dungeons & Dragons: play them, and if you don’t like pink just rule it to be colorless or some other stuff ;)

Astroquarium and Juggletron (level 5): While these two cards care about their own art (and caring about art is level 4, not 5), the specific way they do is, I believe, over the line. First of all, they reward specific dimensions for the stickers, but most importantly they reward specific placement too, which arguably falls into dexterity issues. I can see the argument for them being level 4 though, and I would absolutely allow them in level 4 games.

Memory Test (level 5): Normally, in Magic, you can note stuff that is revealed and then hid again, as a memory aid: face-down creatures that have been looked at (Smoke Teller), cards revealed with a spell like Duress, the list goes on. However, Memory Test specifically asks you to play a game of Memory (which is the reason it’s acorn in the first place), so in level 5 it goes!
