#i realize this is a real nitpick on my part and honestly i didn’t know this a couple months ago #but old english is like. Old. this is back when we still used the thorn and the eth #Early Modern English —> Shakespeare. Understandable. Some strange word order and thous/thees but mostly ok. #Middle English —> Chaucer. Confusing. You can probably get the gist better if you read aloud but you have to struggle a bit. #Old English —> Beowulf. Different language. You will understand maybe 1 word in 50. #linguistics #home cooked hijinks #queue gotta be kidding me
