modern greek myth fans are so exhausting because tell me why the comment sections of epic the musical songs are filled with people insisting odysseus (who held "bride prizes" or sex slaves like the rest of the heroes) never actually cheated on penelope because those evil magic women compelled him? calypso sure but circe? i have to laugh my guys odysseus didn't give a fuck about fidelity of all things. this was thousands of years ago these men were terrible monsters and to engage with the text or even adaptations of it you have to both accept their moral framework was very different and condemnable, not try and whitewash the terrible things they did to make it more palatable for yourself. im not saying it's #problematic to find these characters or stories compelling or engage with them (i am an epic the musical enjoyer myself) but man the fandomification of the terrible men of myth and legend is insane

#i dont intrinsically find retellings and adaptations that make these aspects more toned down to be acceptable for modern audiences bad #but the side effect is always those audiences trying to super-impose these toned down interpretations back onto the original text #odysseus was not a wife guy #achilles and patrocolus were not soft boys #many if not all of these men were rapists and horrible people #and the way these men (always men) get rehabilitated by modern audiences and even their translators #is always so frustrating #epic the musical #odysseus #ish rants

wait, hwz thought of the day. so a time-travel au, right, where all three of them get sent back, to a little while before canon begins. wkx finds himself in ghost valley, zzs and hy in tianchuang.

the catch? none of them know that the other two are their future selves too.

wkx calculates that at this time zzs must have already started with the nails, and decides the best thing to do is get a-xiang out of the valley and take a trip to nanjiang.

zzs starts planning how to get himself and hy out of the capital and then track wkx down before he starts his revenge scheme.

hy decides to investigate jw and find proof of the siji members' deaths being foul play so he can talk zzs into leaving tianchuang.

three hypercompetent, scheming men from the future racing against the events they know are to follow, having no idea that they're not alone.

on the off chance anyone on here followed me for my jonmartin fake dating au, currently standing tragically unfinished at 7 out of 8 chapters: i'm still working on the last chapter! i would love to have it up this year, but unfortunately i can't make any promises, because i've started a new medication and the side effects are wreaking havoc on my mind and body. haha isn't chronic illness fun. but rest assured the fic is the beating heart under my floorboards, and i WILL finish it one day

omg i cant believe i 100 percented the hero mode in one day (long spoiler-free talk about it in the tags lol i need to let it out somewhere)

#it was crazy good!! down to everything #the difficulty was a good balance between splat2 story mode and octo expansion #where it wasnt holding your hand too much and where it doesnt make u wanna tear your hair out lol #i wanna talk more about how the two are blended together but it would be spoilers so i wont #the songs in literally every part of it is are so good!!! they will def satisfy my splatoon song cravings #the animations! like wow!!!? it made me wanna screen record every moment #i also like how it effectively taught me the new things added in splat 3; like the little tips will help me in battle! #i love everyones interactions as well <3 #lil buddy is adorable; like ok when he was first shown for the first splat3 trailer #he was cute but not like important to me; but im attached to the lil guy now... my lil buddy💓 #the ending was so satsifying too!! the final boss was literally so epic and thr conclusion was wholesome :)) #truly an experience #(also side note it was hard to find a pic i wanted to put here that was spoiler-y so i just did a close up of my buddy lol) #by 100 percent i mean i did all the stages in each section and cleared the map #i got almost all the collectibles; just missing some small ones i still need to find #jenivi rant #my post #splatoon #splatoon 3

#epic battle fantasy #I had this whole plan where before fighting him I would do all the side content that doesn't give you exp but better gear #turns out he gets even stronger if you did the optional bosses #beam + spiky arm and it was basically over in 2 turns #I thought of this strategy where I would use gear that gives you HP and a lot of resistence to status effects like scorch/confuse/freeze #turns out I'm a fucking idiot #I know I could beat him if I overleveled but that's no fun

The Walrus v Fairy question really is a perfect example of the Internet Argument. I've been reading a bunch of posts on both sides and it's very clear that everyone is interpreting the question in a way that the other side finds ridiculous. And if you take the read of one person, it makes perfect sense why they'd think it was more/less surprising, and the question become more about agreeing with priors than the actual question being asked. Like, a lot of people saying the walrus is more surprising make comments to the effect of "how did a walrus walk all the way to my house" or "how did the walrus knock on the door". And for folks that think the fairy is more surprising, there's a lot of comments saying they assume the walrus was put there by someone. The question doesn't mention how the walrus/fairy got there, so someone reading it as saying that the walrus knocked is answering a fundamentally different question than the one where someone assumes that a person knocked and then like, hid, or whatever. Likewise, a lot of people on both sides talk about the number of assumptions that each creature's presence brings up. People who think the walrus is more surprising comment a lot saying that a fairy being there is just one fact, that fairies exist, and that the walrus being there involves a huge logistical chain at the very least. Where people who think the fairy is more surprising comment a lot saying that the walrus being there is one fact, that elaborate prank shows exist, where the fairy being there calls into question a lot of biology, as well as the massive and world-spanning coverup that would be necessary to keep fairies out of the public eye if they've been around so long, that it brings up a bunch of existential issues if not logistical ones. People are even disagreeing about the definition of the word "surprising". I saw two posts side-by-side, one basically saying "a huge animal on your doorstep is shocking" and the other saying "fairies existing is way less likely than a walrus being dropped off at my door". Two totally different (and accurate!) definitions of the word, one emphasizing the initial reaction, surprising like a jump scare, the other emphasizing the overall likelihood of fairies versus Mr. Beast's Epic Walrus Prank.

It's just a wonderful thing to watch a hill to die on being raised right before my eyes, and to see a new Airplane Treadmill be born.
