2017 workout playlist: Nu Metal
As we near the end of this week I hope youâre still staying the course and continuing to challenge yourself in the gym. Â Today I am going to continue with my rock theme from yesterday but talk about songs that I would consider Nu-Metal. Â If youâre not familiar with that term, it mostly deals with rock music of the late 90âs and early 2000âs. Â Itâs heavy metal but can also have a rap, grunge, and funk influence. Â Being a product of my time period, these songs were on continuous rotation when I was in middle school going home every day to watch Carson Daily on TRL. Â Hopefully, some of these songs can take you down memory lane and help to push you in the gym as they do for me.
Papa Roach â Last Resort: They say that exercise can be a stress relief and boy does this song relieve some stress with its theme and tempo. I like to use this song when Iâm weightlifting and need some motivation to finish my last set. Â Its angry lyrics and screaming at the end do something in the brain to want to push out that last repetition and finish strong with the exercise.
Limp Bizkit â Break Stuff: Oh Fred Durst. Â This guy was king of the world for pop culture at one point in time and due to this, I am willing to admit that I still enjoy a Limp Bizkit song every now and then when Iâm driving in my car, cooking, or in this case working out. Â This song is perfect if youâre one of the people who like to exercise after work and have had a bad day. Â So rather than punching your boss or breaking your desk, use this song as a motivation tool to âbreakâ a sweat instead. Â My favorite part is the break down when Durst says âhe packs a chainsawâ and then it is just an explosion of noise that can stimulate you to increase your speed on your cardio machine.
Linkin Park â Points of Authority: Â I believe the first line of the song it the perfect anti message to inspire you to kick some ass in the gym. Â The song is a statement of anger to some kind of authority figure and how the singer is not going to take the punishment anymore. Â So when you hear the part of the song when they say âyou canât run the race, the pace is too fast, you just wonât last,â use this negative energy and feed into your inner strength to complete your workout.
Drowning Pool â Bodies: This song has sort of gained some popularity since an online video of an old guy singing this song karaoke style was released last year.  But I like to use it as motivation specifically when it gets to the chorus when they say ânothing wrong with meâŠsomethingâs got to giveâ and you here that scream.  Something just lights up in my brain and I feel like I can take on any challenge thrown at in the gym.  Warning I would not use this song early in the work out if you take any pre-work out supplements just because itâs such an intense song that could mess up your system if youâre not careful.
Rob Zombie â Dragula: I donât know how this song caught on, but when I was growing up this track was everywhere. Â Numerous video games featured this song but my fondest memory was its use featured in the first âMatrixâ movie. Â Itâs fast rhythm that also had this electronic kind of sound making it ahead of its time that I believe why it was used so much in video games that took place in the future because the creators probably thought all music in the future would sound something to this nature. Â In either case itâs a great workout song and hopefully will bring back some good memories for you as well.
