Building and Keeping Trust
I was listening to the audio version of “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey on my way to work today. He was going over how important it is to maintain trust within all our relationships. We have bank accounts to store money, but what if we had an immaterial, metaphorical account representing trust between our close friends and families? We can make deposits into that account with courtesy, kindness, compliments, honesty and keeping promises. These acts increase trust, a sense of safety, good will and good feelings. However, acts that are disrespectful, arbitrary, threatening, over-reactions, and anything else that’s basically dishonest and manipulative will make withdrawals from the account.  Its not always easy to do or be conscious about because there have been times when I failed someone else by choosing something that interfered with another promise being met and I usually realize much later on, after it's too late, the mistake I made in not following through.  It's vital to consider the other persons frame of reference and whats important to them.
Many (charisma focused rather than character centered) individuals like to promise things to others because it gives them an initial high from the excitement and anticipation of the person they made the promise to. They don’t want to do the hard but sometimes right thing of saying “No”, even though they may have good intentions. But for the “promisee” the sense of hope and anticipation is almost as intense and enjoyable as the event or act that is being promised itself!
This is a dangerous habit to get addicted to because if we make too many promises and don’t follow through with even one of them, we will make severe withdrawals from our emotional bank account with that person and the same level trust will no longer be there. Once the promise is broken, they look for hidden motives and intentions behind new promises or whatever else you say due to a low trust level. It’s a hard upward battle that will require a great deal of humility, self-reflection, awareness and honest to win the trust back.
But imagine how the person would feel if some conflicting opportunity came up that could threaten the promise but you chose to keep the initial promise instead! That’s where the real test lies! For example, you promise your significant other a night on the town, but a friend from out of town is only available to hang out that very same night. It may be tempting to turn down the initial promise for something novel and different plus you may have “reserves” from the deposits you made with them before to offset the withdrawal. But they would obviously feel that much more loved and cherished since you kept your attention on them and their needs without being distracted by something else.
Lastly, we can be a little more cautious in making promises, by not succumbing to instantly promising at the drop of a hat without consideration. We may want to preemptively explain if certain conditions are met, that will increase the chances of fulfilling the promises. Don’t instantly say yes, but pause and give a more wiser, realistic response. This may not generate the instant gratification of initially making the promise, but it won’t create hope and excitement that can be easily shattered. It doesn’t mean we don’t make promises at all, but we’re not quick to promise something that can potentially have a low chance of realization and thus detrimentally shatter the trust previously established.

Harry and Ginny || Caught
Harry could proudly say he had been successful in avoiding Ginny for almost an entire day before the youngest Weasley found him. He had been on the lookout the previous day, trying frantically to remember when he might cross paths with her so that he could change his route. He had even avoided meals, so to speak, arriving as soon a the food was set or just before it was cleared away and only staying long enough to eat his fill.
It wasn't necessarily that he was avoiding her so much as any possible hexes she might throw his way. He was also trying to figure out a way to tell her he was dating the son of the man who had almost killed her - the son of Voldemort's until recently right hand man. He wasn't quite sure how she was going to take it, and he wanted an angry Ginny even less than he'd wanted an angry Ron.
That morning though - Wednesday morning - she caught him by the lake. He had again skipped breakfast, grabbing food form the kitchens instead before heading outside. He stopped, stock still, hoping she hadn't seen him, even though she was looking straight at him. After a moment he sighed, mustering his best 'You-have-no-reason-to-be-upset-with-me' expression before waving awkwardly to the redheaded girl. "Uh, hi Ginny."

Malfoy and Weaslette || Busted
Orange rays of the early morning sun streaked through the windows into the Gryffindor tower as Draco tip-toed down the stairs from the boy's dormitory and into the common room. It was five-thirty in the bloody morning, which was too sodding early, but also dangerously too late.
On their nights spent in each other's towers, they usually snuck back into their own rooms at some point in the middle of the night. But Draco had fallen asleep and apparently he'd been exhausted because he didn't wake up again until the sun was just peaking up over the horizon.
Cursing to himself at his stupidity, he'd given Harry a quick kiss before vaulting out of bed. He usually woke at least every few hours when in the Gryffindor tower. He suspected it actually had very little to do with not sleeping well with Harry in the bed, because that certainly wasn't the case when they were in the dungeons, and more to do with the fact that there was a nagging, nervous voice in his head that didn't allow him to fall into a deep sleep knowing that he really shouldn't be there and that they would get caught if he slept through until morning.
But 5:30 was pushing it because freaks like Granger could have been up studying or something of the sort. Not that it would matter if Granger was up because she already knew, but there was no saying no one else in the house was a little Granger in the making.
He heaved a sigh of relief when he saw no one in the common room and was hurrying out the porthole—just as someone was hurrying in.
He collided with a small, light frame, that bounced off his own with a quiet gasp. He registered the flash or orange and the freckled features first... and then he registered how bad this was.
Oh fuck. Ginny Weasley.

Spontaneous || Ginny & Blaise
Blaise doesn't know if he's ever had a more relieving moment, or happy moment than this one. He knows that this is the best thing that's happened to him this year. Especially this year, with all the shit that has happened. He's overly ecstatic and not quite sure if he'll be able to wipe the smile on his face. It's a calm smile, but Blaise knows it's odd for him to actually have such a smile. He normally just grins or smirks, but this is just a smile of intoxicating euphoria. It's amazing.
He suddenly wants to hug and kiss someone, because, Merlin, he's so happy and he needs a release of this intensifying emotion. He's fairly certain that he won't be able to stop himself as soon he sees a girl worth the spontaneity.
Then, there she is. Her back is to him, but that doesn't matter because she has a pretty slim frame, and he's certain that he can lift her up. In fact, he may just do that. He doesn't really register the red hair, or the fact that her uniform is definitely Gryffindor, just that she has a pretty waist. That's all he needs, really.
He makes it to her quickly, in three long strides, and suddenly turns her by her shoulders. His smile still in place, he grasps her waist carefully and they're spinning suddenly. Then she's back down and he's kissing her, because he may as well. Her lips are soft too.
It doesn't matter what happens after this moment, because his mother is safe in their house in Italian, and Blaise really doesn't give a fuck about anything else at the moment.

Harry and Ginny || Well this is awkward
Harry was going out of his head. The Gryffindor quidditch team had their first match next weekend and he hadn't been able to go over any of the plays with the entire team, let alone have a practice where everyone showed up and got along. His fight with Ron was just icing on the cake. Fleetingly he thought with a laugh that maybe Draco had planned to go out with him to ensure Gryffindor's loss in the match against Slytherin.
As he raced down the hallway he saw a head of red hair that didn't belong to Ron but was just as familiar. Ginny! He could have jumped for joy. Even if he had figured out why things were really always so awkward when he was around her, Harry was glad to see the youngest Weasley. If there was anyone he could count on to help him with the Quidditch team it was Ginny.
He only worried that he might have to tell her - or worse, that she already knew from Ron - about the fact that he was seeing Draco.
He called out to her as he quickened his pace. "Ginny! Wait up!"
