Fever – Peggy Lee
Peggy Lee’s version of this 50s flame song is undoubtedly the most well known, and became her signature song.  was originally recorded by American R&B singer Little Willie John, and has also been recorded by Elvis Presley, Boney M., Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Michael Bublé, The McCoys, La Lupe and Beyoncé.
The song was written by Eddie Cooley and Otis Blackwell, who used the pseudonym John Davenport, as he was still under contract to another producer.
When Peggy Lee recorded the song, it featured significantly rewritten lyrics which she composed herself. The uncopyrighted lyrics featured historical invocations (including the verses beginning "Romeo loved Juliet," and "Captain Smith and Pocahontas") and are now generally thought of as a standard part of the song, included in most subsequent cover versions.
It’s also likely that Peggy Lee arranged this torchy version herself. The magic this slower smooth, sultry version comes from being accompanied only by bass (played by Joe Mondragon) and a very limited drum set (played in part with fingers by Shelly Manne), and the finger snaps were provided either by the singer herself, by Howard Roberts, the guitarist for the date, who set aside his guitar for this number, or possibly even by the producer, Dave Cavanaugh.
Fever was released as a single in 1958, but not originally included on her Things Are Swingin' album when it was first released in 1959; but added as a bonus track on its 2004 reissue release.

Herb Geller(as)、Jack Montrose(ts)、Bob Gordon(bs)、Russ Freeman(p)、Joe Mondragon(b)、Shelly Manne(ds)という、お馴染みのメンバー。
