Can someone from the UK help me understand soccer for a second? My brother (we're both American, born and raised here, no real connection to the UK other than that his father in law is Scottish) put some Leicester City FC items on his Christmas list this year, and i'm confused about how he ended up cheering for them? Even in my relatively i-know-nothing-about-soccer existence, I've heard of a couple of UK football teams, Manchester United and Arsenal being the two that come to mind. I would think if he were to root for any team, it would be one of those (based on nothing more than the fact that I have heard of them, so therefore, they must be good/the most prone to international bandwaggoners).

Why Leicester City? Also can you explain to me the...idk levels? leagues? (your football clubs are different than the team that plays for you in the Olympics and World Cup, right?)

The ESPN+ commentators were awful and we spent a lot of the first half talking about them; as my brother noted, 'I don't even care that they are super negative about us the whole game, it is that they are just wrong about it most of the time.'

Then the second half happened:

Commentators misidentify Jody Morris as David Beckham, 48th minute:

Me: WOW, that is not David Beckham with JT there. Pretty sure that was Jody Morris! Brother: That is not David Beckham. Me: Yeah, that was Jody Morris, who's like the opposite of David Beckham. Why the hell would Beckham come to Chelsea v. Leicester?! Brother: OK, I can forgive them being wrong about Chelsea, but to not recognize David Beckham is crazy.

Axel Disasi scores an own goal, 51st minute:

Me: That error was like mixing up David Beckham and Jody Morris.

56th minute:

Brother: The problem with this [commentator] is he refuses to admit he was wrong on anything. I hope he keeps talking about how David Beckham is here.

20 minutes later, the commentators again say that David Beckham is here:

Me: OH MY GOD THEY JUST DOUBLED DOWN ON THE DAVID BECKHAM THING. Brother: DAVID BECKHAM AGAIN? DOUBLING DOWN? Me: Ha ha, I literally just said the same thing to you. They should just go all in and say everyone is David Beckham now.

Me: I don't know why they took David Beckham off for David Beckham when David Beckham is still on. Brother: David Beckham came on for David Beckham. David Beckham held up the substitution board. Me: The crowd of 40000+ David Beckhams clapped David Beckham off.

Chukwuemeka scores, 92nd minute:

Brother: FUCK YES. DAVID BECKHAM DOES IT.

93rd minute:

Brother: Oh god, they said he’s onside, so he must be offside. Me: They might have to go to the DaVAR Beckham to check that.

Full time:

Me: Oh man. That was a fucking crazy match. David Beckham, man of the match.
