Alibaba is repeatedly shown to be very quick and nimble on his feet, reacting to fast and sudden attacks purely on instinct, which I know for a fact comes from his 10 years of living in the slums. He even dodges Morgiana’s attacks despite never meeting a fanalis before in his life and honestly? Really wish he’d have been the kind of fighter who’s so fucking annoying to go against simply because he’s too damn hard to hit

Botan was born in Kina to a small family. At a young age, she showed a propensity for magic and in an effort to provide her the best education, her parents sent her to Magnostadt Academy to study. There, she excelled as a student.

She has an affinity for the eighth type, life magic with a secondary skill in the second type water. Her particular skillset revolves around healing magic, often combining the two. But she has also found to a have strong connection the rukh, potentially coming from her family's heritage as spiritualists. She has minor mediumship abilities, able to receive minor information from the rukh itself, said to come from the souls that flow within. She can see the rukh more clearly than most and has always seemed to be able to, even before her magic manifested. She also seems to have a knack for predicting and sensing death, often seeing spirits depart to the rukh, but keeps the former to herself as it seems to unnerve people. Rather than a traditional staff, Botan uses an ornate wooden oar she brought from home. Her family were boatman on the river prior to Kina taking to the skies.

After graduation, Botan decided that while she treasured her time at the academy, she did not agree with their teachings that the goi were somehow below them because of their lack of magic. And so she's taken to sailing the world, offering her skills where she can.

If you can take a solid guess of what chapter Sindria’s prophet would end what do you think it would be and how would it end (I’m sorry if this was rude to ask)

I've answered this type of question a few times and my answer hasn't changed. I have no idea how many chapters this is going to take;;;; I thought the current Announcement Arc would happen around chapter 20, but a lot of things I planned for after it moved to in front, and the end of the Announcement arc changed to match the emotional beat I planned for what was going to be the original arc planned for ch30. I can't tell if things are moving as planned or not. In universe I thought we'd be hitting the Sindria Arc from the og around ch30 but I probably won't get there until ch45. But emotional progress is still being made close to what I expected???

If you want a number, my current guess is 100-125 chapters??? That could be very off in either direction.

I'm not going to say anything too spoilery but I'm still putting my answer about what happens in the ending under the cut so those that don't want to see it, don't have to. There's a bit of rambling because I struggle with explaining my writing in general.

So... The ending is Mori learning to feel safe in a relationship and the world not having to deal with one king on top. I know that's not much of answer & I've basically said this before;;;; It won't end when Mori and Sin get in a relationship, that's for sure. I know I did that one request for what their kids might look like, but I don't want to ever get pregnant so I know that won't happen probably. Might them adopt if I end up wanting to make them parents. (I've considered adopting or fostering if I ever make enough $$ to feel like I can actually support a child's needs. But in general, I do not want children of my own for a variety of reasons.)

I don't have anything resembling a solid plan past the Sindria Arc, and a few scenes for the Magnostadt arc (in case Mori fails to prevent Aladdin making that promise with Kouen, but I hopefully won't need to use them). I have a few things planned after that regardless of how the war ends, but there's a very strong possibility that none of them will happen, so I feel weird saying they will definitely happen.

My original ch4 ended very differently and by the ch8 that came from it I couldn't figure out what to do to keep the plot moving. It just felt wrong, so I went back to the last scene I wrote that I still really liked and rewrote the chapter to prevent it from happening. But I kept hitting a block so I kept going back farther until I ended up back at ch4. I was even more happy with the new ch4 than the og to the point I decided to post my fanfic. And the og ch4 had a kiss scene at the end, but that's also why it became a problem (I figured out later).

That's been my style of writing ever since and why I normally write several chapters ahead of where I'm posting. (I'm currently working on chapters 37&38.) Since I have no idea what road blocks I'll end up hitting, I have no idea what I'll end up changing. I can say that I plan to never have Mori capture a dungeon, but I have also designed a few dungeons and Djinn in case they end up needing one. Mori was supposed to meet the Generals with a meeting after recovering from illness, but the meeting and what happened afterwards wasn't flowing until I went back and split the meeting in 2, so now it's the meeting in the court yard, and the dinner with the Generals. I'm still not super happy with that dinner but they aren't things I can easily fix after posting. I just have to accept that my ability to write at the time wasn't up to the task of what I was trying to do. It did it well enough to get the idea across, and didn't break my ability to keep the plot moving, so it is what it is. Gosh there are so many doomed deadends where Mori ended up spilling the beans about the end of the series, or Sinbad or Ja'far ended up pressuring or guiding the conversation in that direction -_-;; There's also a bunch that more directly play into my trauma in ways that many won't seem as in character for the canon cast involved. And I do still intend to have those traumas and fears addressed but those ways were wrong.

For the record, Sinbad and Ja'far were not supposed to talk and figure out that Sinbad causes the 2nd Calamity. They did that without my permission and I could figure out a way or reason to stop them. So much my future plans have changed since they did that that I don't want to pretend that something like that won't happen again -especially since it happened again while working the Announcement Arc.

The only thing I know for certain is that if I reach the end, it will be a happy one for Mori. Most of my stories have tragic endings (including the mc dying) and I promised myself I wouldn't do that this time. I want to prove to myself that I'm allowed to have a happy ending.

(I have been considering posting the versions of chapters that turned into deadends in the Simpbad collection, so let me know if you're interested in that. Most are very edgy by comparison to what the final versions are, and often ooc so I can't guarantee the quality)

Rewatching Magi and I have a thing about women's representation and I'm going through the tests right now and checking off the ones that Magi passes

Bechdel Test (Do 2 or more women have a conversation that's not about men): ✅ - Layla and Sasha and Morgiana all have conversations with each other not revolving around men - Morgiana talking to that one little girl and assuring her that she was going to save them from becoming slave - Etc I realize this is not a lot, this is just from the anime there's probably more in the manga but I don't remember, I mostly blame it on the fact that there just aren't as many female characters 😅

Sexy Lamp Test (Could a female character be replaced with a sexy lamp and the story be fairly unchanged): ✅ (passes bc it fails) - Morgiana plays several extremely important roles and the main characters wouldn't be where they are without her - Arba being one of the main villains in the story that impacts many other character's lives - Hakuei being our first introduction to full-body djinn equips - Scheherazade giving up her life in order to help the main characters defeat the medium in Magnostadt - Sheba creating and being able to save Aladdin during the destruction of Alma Torran - Etc

Tauriel Test (Is a female character good at her job): ✅ - Hakuei being a general and successfully uniting the Kouga clan with the Kou Empire - Kougyoku being Empress and uniting the Kou, Leam, and Kina kingdoms as well as generally being a successful ruler of a large country - Meyers being able to teach a class to be successful magicians - Scheherazade leading an entire Empire into being one of the biggest superpowers in the world - Yamraiha being an incredibly skilled magician capable of inventing magical items to store magoi -Etc

There's other tests but those are the main ones. Well-written women in media are so important and I'm really proud of Magi for being able to pass these tests multiple times, Ohtaka really writes some amazing girls :)

Known places in Magi and what they’re based on because I have no life and I’m bored as fuck

Aktia: No official basis is given for this country but Sinbad does state it’s known for it’s pearls so possibly it could be Bahrain, an island country in the Persian Gulf, which is famous for its pearling industry

Artemyra: Ancient Greece. The clothing and jewellery is the biggest giveaway but this is also a kingdom known for its warrior women, like the amazonians, and the word “Artemyra” itself probably comes from “Artemis”

Balbadd: India and the one I’ve talked about the most. Everything in Balbadd from the architecture to the attire to the trade and fishing is based on India’s culture and Balbadd in canon is noted for being a very imported trade area and for being unique in how multicultural it is

Heliohapt: Probably the most obvious of the series outside of Reim, this is Ancient Egypt. There’s absolutely no way you could mistake this for anything else they literally have a big ass pyramid with an eye of horus on it lmao

Imuchakk: While it’s never been officially stated, comparisons have been made between the Imuchakk and Shaman King’s portrayal of the Ainu, from the naming schemes to the clothing and affiliation to the cold

Kina: Ancient Japan. It’s located to the east of Kou, their current king is called Yamato Takeruhiko, who has a tattoo of an oni on his back, uses a katana, wears japanese armour etc

Kou: Imperial China! The royal family of Kou is literally called the Imperial Family, the naming schemes are all Chinese, absolutely everything about this place screams China if I tried to list everything we’d be here forever

Magnostadt: Unknown. Magnostadt’s name is a combination of latin (magnus) and german (stadt) but previously the kingdom was called Musta’sim, which is arabic. The term “goi” is also used for people who are non-magicians which is, ya know, very obviously meant to be the jewish “goy” [and yes in the actual magnostadt arc this is INCREDIBLY problematic given the villain of the arc is designed to have a big nose and warts all over his face etc but we won’t get into that] so it’s. Ehhhh kinda hard to pinpoint this one. It’s a mishmash of things

Parthevia: Ancient Persia! The name of this country comes from the persian “parthava” which means “parthian” as in “Parthian Empire.” This is where Sinbad, Ja’far and Drakon are from

Reim: Rome. This place is literally introduced as having a huge coliseum and being known for its gladiators, and their founder was Remus. Can’t get more obvious than that

Sasan: This is another weird one because while most of the citizens have Greek names [Spartos, Darius etc] the place itself is based on the Sasanian Empire, which was the longest lived persian-imperial dynasty, and the empire itself was named after the House of Sasan. I genuinely had to look this one up because I thought for sure it was straight Greece based on the names but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sindria: Indian Subcontinent and various others. This place is incredibly multicultural but in short: sindria derives from the sanskrit “sindhu” which is a name for the indus river, physically the country looks like the greek island of Nisyros, the palace of Sindria is loosely based on the Süleymaniye Mosque in Turkey and they have a festival called Mahrajan after King Mahrajan, a character in Sinbad the Sailor from 1001 Nights

A tall, black pointy hat dipped forward as the head of Magnostadt bowed. It was a wonder that the metal ring around it didn’t cause it to fall off.

The owner of the hat dryly said, “A pleasure to meet you, I’m sure.”

She straightened up, squinting through the rising sun bombarding her retinas. Across from her, a man with a partial mask covered the rest of his face with a feathered fan. The corner of his mouth that could be seen remained curved downward. He bowed in similar fashion.

“Likewise. I’m sure pooling our resources will expedite our discoveries in magic.”

He sighed as he looked to the side at the workers arriving on transportation circles with equipment. This would have been much easier if he still had Dantalion. But then again, using his djinn was exhausting so personally for him, this way was actually easier.

She led him out of the courtyard and to her office. The windows were stuffed with scrolls, potion bottles and cloth, making the room much dimmer than outside, to both of their reliefs. Yamuraiha proceeded to inform Koumei of the current big projects as he browsed over her shelves.

Looking over her journals of research, he came across one of her older experiments for growing beards. It made him think of his brother. Curious, he inquired what use that could have had.

Yamuraiha explained, “Well it did come in handy when my King shaved his eyebrows the night before an important Council.” She let out a small giggle recalling the incident. True Sinbad and Ja’far’s eyebrows did grow a mile long, but it was a stimple trim to make them look normal after that.

Koumei blinked. “Eyebrows? But it’s labeled ‘beard magic.’”

“It affected hair and then eyebrows. I soon gave up after that. See, if  you look at the trial notes from this experiment to this one over here, you’ll see I took the XXX and made it VVV so logically, you would think if that change went from head to brow then converting it further to QQQ would stimulate growth on the chin…but it only went back to the head!”

She started sobbing in the frustration of her failure then caught herself. She covered her mouth as she remembered that extensive details like that is what makes guys uninterested in her. Not that she cared if he was interested in her. He was a prince of the Kou Empire. Or used to be. But he was still Kou and it was hard to forget the terrors they committed in the past.

However, Koumei grabbed the notes and took them to her desk. He laid them out and pointed to the various components of the circles as he theorized, “What if we were to take the ZZZ here and QRX it this way and adjust the NNN by YYY?”

What?!?! He wasn’t put off by her magic jargon? And he understood it? And contributed ideas of his own on top of that?! And the suggestions…made logical sense?! “Why didn’t I think of that?!”

“I have been overseeing magical research since I was 5,” he shrugged.

Yamuraiha pointed to a shelf of gigantic books. “I had those textbooks for advanced students over there as my bedtime stories at that age!”

“Two lines of study gives us two perspectives. That is why our institutes are joining after all.”

“I had abandoned this pursuit but…Oh! I just got to try it out!” She bit her lips and looked at Koumei shyly “...If you don’t mind me testing it out on you?”

“Go ahead. If it works out, I know of someone who could benefit from this.”

He was referring to his brother that would love to have a beard as flourishing as their late uncle. But Kouen could never stand the look of the in-between stage of growing it out, so it remained a neat little point on his chin.

Yamuraiha, however, was thinking how she could personally benefit from this finally working out. Little did she know what would rekindle inside her when the experiment worked.

Either the pride of finding the solution to the conundrum, or the mere sight of a beard on someone as versed in magic as she was. She covered her cheeks, hoping the cool touch of her fingers would tone down the heat radiating from her face.

Suddenly finding this man attractive, she got nervous. Her mind went crazy and she couldn’t help herself as she reasoned, “I don’t think so. She panted heavily as her mind whirled over her most impressive calculations.

He set a hand on her shoulder to calm her down. “Explain more on the DDD with the ###. We can save a lot of time on trial and error if you’ve already mastered the ZZZ of NNN. That can factor the TTT to WWW like a VVV.”

By now Yamuraiha was practically drooling as she grabbed a blank parchment and started scrawling on it with a quill. Big circle, little circles. Lots of runes and symbols. All the elements and commands lined up and she had to capture it before they shifted.

Koumei scratched his new beard, contemplating leaving Magnostadt’s head to her own devices as he left to trim it down. But maybe he’d save the trim until after a nap. Apparently growing hair is exhausting…or last night’s planning council finally caught up to him. Or his new colleague’s energy was just that draining.
