Lin couldn’t look at his computer screen anymore but he had to, even though none of the words he read made sense anymore. There was a strict schedule to abide by. If he didn’t get a certain amount done this evening, he’d be completely behind on both his thesis and the work Duke Cyrus had given him. And he had to get some face time in with Micaiai at some point tonight. Surely any night they went without saying a single word to each other would just make things more and more awkward and difficult until finally Micaiai broke up with him.

This was the line of thought that had been plaguing Lin since his boyfriend asked him to move in and he’d declined. They were going to break up. He’d ruined everything. He just didn’t know what Mic was waiting for. 

Lin trained his eyes on the screen, but he couldn’t focus on a single word in front of him. They grew blurry and Lin became aware that he was crying. Then it was more like sobbing, his body shaking with it. Sitting at Micaiai’s kitchen table with his laptop open, he wept with a hand over his eyes--as if he could hide--and wished for it to stop.

When Lin arrived back at Micaiai’s apartment after class and work, he was a little tired. It was a long day now that he was back in class and in the throes of his graduate thesis. “Micaiai...?” he called out as he toed his shoes off, unsure if the Dominant was home already. Entering the kitchen, he intended to get himself a glass of water, but instead found something he hadn’t expected. Gifts.

His birthday had passed two days ago and he’d hardly remembered it except for a few texts and gifts that had come from his brother and Liana. But he hadn’t mentioned it to Micaiai even then, unsure of how to broach the subject without sounding like he was asking for attention. But Mic had found out anyhow. Lin smiled as he peered down at the card. “Happy Birthday beautiful boy. I only wish you had told me sooner. We will have a special dinner when you and I are in for the day.”

Lin felt a little nervous as he parked his motorcycle near the park. That wasn’t unusual. He was about to socialize after all. But this was more than that. This was--or at least he was thinking it was probably maybe--a date. He’d never been on a date before. Taking off his helmet and securing everything, he grabbed the large bag that house their lunch and a blanket for them sit on should they want to spread out on the grass. The walk to the park was a short one, and in a couple minutes he was at the spot where they’d agreed to meet. Taking his phone from his pocket, he checked the time and looked around, trying to catch sight of Mic. There were still a couple of minutes left before their agreed upon time.

I hope this finds you all well.  Next Saturday, August 22nd, the Vannes Public Library will be holding its end of the summer reading program celebration. As you know, the House of Nantes is has always been diligent supporter of the Vannes Public Library and education in general. This is a fine opportunity to remind Vannes and the whole of Breton that Nantes prides itself on supporting the community and access to the remarkable programs offered by the Library. It is also a chance to support our very own Adelaide Robinson, the program manager at the library.

I hope you will make every effort to attend this very worthwhile event.

Lin’s Christmas gifts for @micaiai-lemeur

Lin didn’t personally celebrate Christmas, but he knew the people around him did and would send him gifts. Micaiai especially. Gift giving didn’t really come easily to Lin, not always picking up on things that would clue him into what someone might want for a holiday. So Lin mostly stuck with what he knew best. Plants. A Chinese Evergreen for Micaiai, along with a bracelet he’d seen at a local market that he’d thought was nice.
