#Oghren is in hell

And i'm mad that if oghren was an elf he would be taken seriously by the writers (and fandom). He'd be handsome and redeemable and you'd get all sorts of conversations unpacking what the fuck is wrong with him, with capitalization on the elf shit. If he lost his keeper wife to, idk, human jackasses and nobody in his clan cared to go look for her & he lost his shit over it, because obviously you lose your shit over that, everyone in this house would be raising banners for him. And the writers would hammer it in constantly that he has an addiction to alcohol because he's in pain, not because they're making a punchline. But because dwarf, we got um. That!! Me when I fucking get you bioware

Do you get it? The way Orzammar ended up loathing Oghren because he was everything his home demanded him to be? Listen to me he's too violent and hot-blooded and reaches for the nearest weapon far too quickly to be allowed to live peacefully in a city still standing because of him and people like him listen. He's a hero and he's no use to anyone like this. Is it really a surpise that he's left behind by his family? And really, it's kind of sad watching him try everything in his power to get them back. He leaves and it's better this way for everyone and he doesn't even miss Orzammar (he does) and he settles into a different life until he doesn't and listen. Do you understand? He's so resentful. He's still clinging onto it all he knows he is and he can't do anything to stop I am gripping you by your shoulders right now do you get it? He joins the wardens he's no longer a dwarf he's a Grey Warden and he wants you to side with the Architect because maybe, maybe that'll help keeping the darkspawn away from Orzammar. Do you get what I'm saying. He doesn't want anything to do with Orzammar anymore. He wants his home to be safe so bad. Can I put whatever the hell was going on in that writers room on a petri dish.

Oghren, to Surana: "That Darkspawn blood is hitting me different, the elf looks different now :/"
imagine being anders and it’s ur first time fighting darkspawn doing real battle healing and it’s horrifying as all hell and meanwhile a random dwarf who smells of alcohol and the kid who used to snitch on you in high school are arguing loudly through the entire fight about whether nathaniel’s facial hair is an upgrade or a downgrade from nothing at all

I have to talk about how perfect F!Brosca and Leliana are for each other. I can't get it out of my head and I need to write it down.
When you're playing through the Dwarven Duster origin you'll notice that F!Brosca isn't really seen as a woman atleast from Orzammar's standards. You aren't "Pretty" or Feminine enough to be a Noble hunter like Rica, you're pretty much just seen as another Leske, just another castless thug that works for Beraht that goes around cracking people's skulls for him. I mean hell even Oghren calls you ugly. No one really sees you as a woman since you break Orzammar's societal standards of how Dwarven women are supposed to be.
But then you go to the surface and you meet Leliana, she is telling you how pretty you are and how nice your hair is, when no one in Orzammar even batted an eye at your looks, but there's this Girl that expresses to you how beautiful she finds you and how much you mean to her. She see's everything that people in Orzammar couldn't see. She see's how beautiful you are when no one else did. And on top of that, Brosca was told those she worships would reject her for not having a caste and Leliana was told the way she worships who she believes in is wrong and that her God doesn't love her, THEY can understand each other's hardships when not many other's can. It's just so cute.
and that is why F!Brosca and Leliana are perfect for each other, they deserve the world and I love them.

Dragon Age: Origin companions...if they worked in an office.
Alistair is always catching hell from the boss because he is goofing off instead of working but he never gets fired. There is a rumor it is because he's kin to the CEO, but his clothes are always wrinkled, so no one believes it.
Leliana is very nice but she's always driving people off because every conversation leads back to religion. There's rumors that she was wild when she was younger, and people swear they've seen tattoos. Sings in a band on the weekends, but it's all songs about the Maker.
Morrigan was assigned a cubicle but she managed to set herself up in an unused closet and no one has the balls to kick her out. It is always dark inside and no one assigns her work, but what she produces is always flawless.
Oghren is always drunk. He sleeps at his desk. The people around have learned to block out his snoring with earplugs. No one can fire him because he is inexplicably beloved by some of the largest clients.
Shale spends her breaks on the roof. She is constantly complaining about the mess the birds leave behind to anyone who will listen.
Sten never talks to anyone. He comes in, does his work in silence, then leaves. No one knows anything about him aftet working with him for years.
Wynne is the only manager everyone loves. Everyone dreads the day she will retire but no one doubts that she has earned it. She can usually be found with a coffee in hand and a patient expression dragging Alistair back to his own cubicle or telling off Zevran for hitting on her again.
Zevran has had sex with most of the single men and women in the office and some of the married ones as well. Through his sexcapades, he has become untouchable. He has dirt on everyone but he's so charming no one holds it against him. Wynne is the only one he listens to.

The Prince
It's 1-1, now, between Harrowmont and Bhelen and hardcore supporters of both are now jumping Darrian and his party in the streets of Orzammar. For his next errand, Harrowmont wants Branka found. Oh, right, the paragon who invented smokeless coal (which sounds straight up magical), then took her house to the Deep Roads, and didn’t come back. Well, if Darrian found the Urn of Sacred Ashes, he can probably find Branka, or what’s left of her. But now, Bhelen wants to talk face to face, since we did his dirty work, and oh he is one slimy bastard. It's like he can’t even be bothered to put up appearances. And that’s the guy who’s gonna help the casteless ? He wants Branka found, too, but he only wants her back if she supports him. The guy definitely murdered his dad. Well Darrian’s not doing the killing political opponents (wait, did the Carta count ?), so he’ll improvise when he’ll get there, and, again, Branka might be dead already.
First, though, Alistair and Wynne apparently have a lot to ask Morrigan about her love life. Several things : First, Darrian is right there, so it’s a bit hurtful when you guys are talking like he’s just Morrigan’s thrall, now. Second, looks like neither of you have seen how much of a dork she is, and thus how funny that makes you sound. Now, to be fair, Darrian did agree to kill Flemeth for Morrigan, and it is possible she might have been lying about the whole body-jacking thing, but honestly, it’d be a really good act. Ah, whatever, you know what, this is fine, it’s all part of the plan. See, when Darrian has retired in the Korcari wilds, and he goes grocery shopping in nearby villages, there’s bound to be some dumbass shems that’ll be all like “Hey fuck you knife-ears !”, but then their buddy will be like “Dude, shut up, that’s the Wicked Witch of the Wild’s boyfriend ! You wanna get turned into a spider ?” It's perfect.
Then we meet Oghren, Branka’s husband, left behind when she took the rest of the house. He really wants to come along and, uh, well, sure. He seems pretty on edge about the whole thing, which is fair. Shale is also here. Their mage had mentioned finding them in a place related to dwarves, so maybe we’ll see something interesting. Now, it’s off to the Deep Roads
***Bonus content!!!***
Hi my name is Darrian Tabris and I have short black hair and pointy ears and a lot of people tell me I look like Shianni (AN: if u don't know who she is get da hell out of here!). I'm not related to Zevran, but I wish I was cause he's a major fucking hottie. I'm a grey warden, but that’s just until the Blight is over. I’m also a rogue and I got Isabela to teach me how to duel. I’m an elf (in case you couldn’t tell), and I wear mostly light armor. I love Wade’s Emporium and I buy all my clothes from there. For example, today, I was wearing the felon’s coat. I was walking outside the Alienage. It was like everywhere in Ferelden, smelling like wet dog, which I was very happy about. A lot of city guards stared at me. I put up my middle finger at them.

“ what the hell are you doing here?! i told you to get out of here! “ for Velanna and Sigrun?
haiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Ro, happy Friday! I did this as a 100 word challenge because i had an idea that made me giggle and here we are for @dadrunkwriting
Tumblr media
"Your move, hot stuff."
Velanna glared.  Hours of work.  Days of research, and it all came down to this.  She took a deep breath, thinking of all the mistakes she'd made, and how they'd led her here, of all damn places, doing this, of all damn things.  They'd joke about it later, but today…
It was personal.  And she'd win.  "Go fish."
Oghren threw his cards down.  "Ya got me, lass."
The closet door opened.  "There you are!" Siggy laughed.  "We've been looking for ages!"
Velanna scrambled up, knocking over her wine glass.  "What are you doing here?  Get out!"

I am wrapping Nyneve in a warm blanket and making her soup cause she deserves a moment of shelter even though the storm rages ahead. ;^;
ngl 45% of me imagining Nyneve going through hell is also motivated by images of her companions being kind to her and supporting her as much as she allowed. Nyneve had like 100% friendship from both Alistair and Morrigan somehow, and I also maxed Oghren's friendship as well as Zevran's. She had an unhappy life but at least she had her friends!

Fic titles? 👀
How Much You Loathe (How They Love You)
A Castle on The Hill
Four Times (X) Says Hello - Five Times They Say Goodbye
Liberosis*
(*From @dictionaryofobscuresorrows , n. the desire to care less about things—to loosen your grip on your life, to stop glancing behind you every few steps, afraid that someone will snatch it from you before you reach the end zone—rather to hold your life loosely and playfully, like a volleyball, keeping it in the air, with only quick fleeting interventions, bouncing freely in the hands of trusted friends, always in play)
Squeee~ so many ideas, thank you!
How Much You Loathe (How They Love You)
This feels very Winter x Miranda lol, like "I care about you against my will" kind of vibes. Their relationship was built from clash after clash, yet there's a growing (albeit begrudging) respect on both sides. This fic would specifically cover the aftermath of the ME2 suicide mission when, having survived, Winter and Miranda would want to figure out what the hell they are to each other, where they go from here.
It would culminate after Arrival, when even Winter is brought low by the massive casualties they inflicted. Miranda comes to Winter's cabin to offer ruthless calculus as a way of showing support because she cares, and Winter absolutely is not in the mood for that kind of reassurance. They definitely end up hate-making-out that devolves into not-hate, partly because they know what they have can't last.
A Castle on The Hill
After vanquishing the Mother, peace returns to Amaranthine. Then, one morning, Neri receives a report of a haunted castle. Varel explains it's not really a castle, not by Vigil's Keep standards, but the nickname of a large house overlooking a village. That house was built to look like a castle by a minor noble who abandoned it after the growing cost of the project threatened to liquidate all of his holdings.
Neri ignores the report until they get another. And another. Concerned about darkspawn (or, worse, a tear in the Veil), the Vigil's Keep crew heads to the "castle" to investigate. They find a maze within because the minor noble thought castles should have lots of hallways and small rooms and secret passages. Which happen to be perfect breeding grounds for nugs.
Anders figures it out first but decides that's a boring result and uses magic to make it seem like there are actual ghosts in the house. (Velanna may help once she discovers how much Oghren Does Not Like Ghosts.) Hilarity ensues.
Four Times (X) Says Hello - Five Times They Say Goodbye
I think I need to hand this one to Winter too. It'd feature four of the first Mass Effect's side quests in which they greet someone they plan to/seriously threaten to kill, possibly focusing on the Helena Blake sequence, and then contrast with one time they didn't say hello first (one of the Cerberus missions, or the Garrus personal quest mission with Dr. Saleon).
Liberosis
(Thank you for including the definition!) This fic would dive into Heather Cousland's growth as Ferelden rebuilds during the years of Dragon Age 2. How she learns to live without revenge driving her, how she builds the reputation of the Dark Wolf beyond a single person so that she doesn't always have to carry that role with her, how she builds trust with Neri and rebuilds some sort of relationship with Nathaniel. Her traumas aren't forgotten, but they no longer assault her upon waking nor torment her sleep. It would be after this growth that she and Anora figure out how to be together despite politics and arranged marriages and physical distance.
Send me a made-up fic title and I'll tell you what I'd write for it

I am once again just. so mad about Anders suddenly despising the Wardens and talking like he always hated them in DA2. Like... this is not a totally new character from some random Warden base who got press-ganged into it against their will and hated every second of it, this is Anders! Our Anders! The Anders who found freedom from the Circle for the first time in his life in the Vigil and with the protection of the Warden-Commander! The Anders who made friends and had a family with the Wardens, and DA2 itself proves that that lasted with how happy he is to see Nate! We had the equivalent of a full game showing Anders being happy with the Wardens; it doesn't make sense that he suddenly loathes them all! And it could easily have been fixed by having him hate specifically the higher-ups in Weisshaupt who presumably went over the Warden-Commander's head to serve the Chantry's whims (like hell would Tahel let the Chantry lay so much as a finger on his Wardens, especially Anders and Justice)? Have him resigned to the belief that even those who genuinely care about him and want him to be free will be forced to betray him to the Chantry eventually! Tie it into his hatred of the Chantry for thinking they have the right to lock mages away for what they might do and a larger hatred of people who think they have the right to control others to that extent! But it doesn't make sense that he hates the Wardens as an institution or the specific branch he was working with, because dammit he loves the Ferelden branch of the Wardens! They're his family! Just erasing that for a quick and easy explanation for why he's suddenly in the Free Marches is... honestly a waste of this game's carryover companion. Half the point of the carryover companion is to give the new protagonist a connection to the old, and Anders barely mentions the Wardens in general with anything but loathing, and mentions the Warden a couple times at most! Oghren obviously already knows the Warden and Varric talks about Hawke all the time, but Anders doesn't even comment on a fucking attempted coup against the Warden-Commander! If you go into it not knowing Awakening exists you might not even realize DA2 has a carryover companion, and that's just a total failure to take advantage of his presence.

Is there anything in Inquisition that gives some insight on what happened to the Fereldan branch of the Grey Wardens, based in Amaranthine? Like the whole Vigil’s Keep got under Clarel’s command? Why were they merged with the Orlesian branch? I know the HoF is on their super secret mission (should they be alive), but like... the rest? If the Awakening end slides were retconned (looking at you Justice and Anders), does it mean the rest as well? Is it why Alistair/Stroud/Loghain went rogue? Did it mean Howe and Bethany/Carver also goes rogue? (Okay I can see Velanna leaving, but Sigrun? Even Oghren? No.)
What the hell happened?! Or is it only recent and can be explained by what we see during Here Lies the Abyss??

I’m high and bored and fucking hell:
So like Dragon Age. I love the multi warden stories but like my ‘oooh see/watch the future’ vibes come in and I just know eventually I’m gonna end up writing it. Only like… I don’t know who to pair off. Cause don’t get me wrong: Alistair and Female Cousland being Queen/King is AWESOME but like… I think it would be funner to not do that? Like have Fem!Cousland/Leliana but have had people all thinking they would cause the bastard reveal is early on. And then have Anora stay Queen as Alistair stays a warden with his awesome girlfriend who isn’t human. And then like I would have Zevran/Warden/Warden but I’d make it super Queer with like yeah female/male/male but like Fem!Warden and M!Warden don’t like bone. M!Warden figures out he isn’t into women like that but does love her truly and deeply and Fem!Warden feels the same. Then we would have Morrigan/Elf cause like I wants that and it’s Honeslty an OTP. Old God baby ain’t fully human. I love you Keiran.
Oh dude like wait what if also… it was Tabris and his dad doesn’t die and instead goes with Morrigan and his son to live and raise his grand baby and then we see him at Skyhold. Yes that is perfect.
I’d also like to edit things I find annoying about the series. Like actually give Oghren a real story arc, have Aveline be less… yikes with her attitude to elves/Isabela and more. Cause it’s me I’d do the whole fucking series and the idea is making me cry why am I like this?!

extremely rough sketches + far too much lore under the cut beware but im so obsessed w these ludicrous staves i designed for minerva over the course of the blight
Tumblr media
i could have redone these neatly but i didn’t want to god bless i hate drawing objects. anyway if u can’t read my handwriting they’re halliserre’s favour, black hand, winter’s breath and hero’s vigilance. hero’s vigilance is so stupid i drew it into a doodle of all three of my characters and it immediately took up as much space as minerva. i’m in love
anyway lore.
halliserre’s favour is just a run of the mill mass produced apprentice staff but minerva switched hers out with hallie amell’s the day they were made tranquil before the templars could take it away. blue and yellow ribbons wrapped around it, same colour as her circle mage robes
black hand is a tevinter artefact given to her by irving when she left to join the wardens. it’s a take on the blackened heartwood staff you can steal from kinloch’s basement but i think it’s ludicrous you could get away with that (how could they possibly not SEE that you have a WHOLE STAVE) so it’s a gift now. it’s powerful but irving always forbade its use in kinloch lest the templars get all unsettled abt it being tevinter and also mildly wicked looking
winter’s breath was commissioned by minerva from the smiths of orzammar after black hand was broken. (havent decided where black hand was broken. maybe by flemeth or marjolaine. or in the deep roads.) modelled on her mabari to demonstrate her loyalty to ferelden because she was prepping for the landsmeet. first of her staves to incorporate a blade and first personalised enough to incorporate her favour for ice magic. i would love to think anders’ freedom’s call is a little inspired by it. (winter’s breath is the actual name of a stave she used in game but i just took the name and ran)
hero’s vigilance is intended for her warden-commander era. it’s warden inspired and showy as all hell because it’s designed as much for standing before the banns of amaranthine as for combat. it’s also a fully bladed weapon now, intended for melee as much as magic. incorporates a small upturned circle of magi symbol into its design if you can make it out at all for Mage Solidarity reasons. all the duckling wardens loathe it for various reasons; velanna thinks it’s ridiculous, oghren thinks it’s cursed and actively tries to trip him over, nathaniel thinks its tasteless and it got all the heat of his early anti-warden bitterness, sigrun thinks its so shiny its absolutely going to get stolen, anders hates the circle of magi symbol, and justice is just figuring out how money works and how much things can cost and is appalled. minerva is completely straight-faced listening to all this but she thinks its so funny and every complaint makes her more determined to keep it forever

please give us your opinions AWAKENING CREW EDITION… velanna sigrun nate justice anders oghren… (and bonus of whichever warden you have in awakening if you like 👀)
ohoho ok:
velanna: i picture her as 5'6, which is on the taller side for an elf! she is a bitch with no social skills and i like her SO much.
sigrun: sigrun is...4'7 (we love a Tall gf and Small gf). my girl is funny as hell, wish we got more of her.
nathaniel: that man is Tall. 6'2. i have to respect a dude out for revenge that ends up reconsidering (cannot WAIT to play awakening w my cousland) and i just enjoyed his banter w anders a lot.
justice: another Tall boy, 6' (especially disturbing on a rotting corpse). keeping it to how he is in awakening: i love when we get spirits encountering the material world for the first time and it makes me so happysad that he tries to reconcile with his host's wife.
anders: also a tall boy (oops, squad of Tall Human Men+everyone else?) but more like 5'11. you go you funky little bisexual, funniest bitch in the grey wardens, i'm so sorry for what happens next.
oghren: oghren is 4'8, just a little taller than sigrun. i tried to like him but his party banter in origins icked me out so much and it Continued in awakening :/
bonus, veria! she is a good 5'2 (tiny baby.) in awakening she finally starts to get a little more Fed Up with people (and Fucked Up) and i love that for her.
