AUGUST 7, 1859 WAS BORN IN COMAYAGUA, THE PHYSICIAN AND POLITICIAN DR. JUAN ÁNGEL ARIAS BOQUÍN, RULER OF HONDURAS IN 1903.

Juan Ángel Arias Boquín (August 7, 1859 – 1927) was a Honduran physician and politician and President of the Republic in 1903, although considered the "Usurper Government".

His parents were Dr. Celeo Arias, president of Honduras in the period 1872-1874; and Doña Francisca Boquín, her medical studies, were carried out at the University of El Salvador.

On January 31, 1884 he was appointed rector of the National University of the West in the city of Santa Rosa de Copán where he met the distinguished Miss Margarita Fiallos Castellanos, with whom he would later marry and with whom he would proselyte Judith Francisca Arias Fiallos. Lastenia Josefa, and Clementina Nota Dr. Arias Boquín is credited with having had several romances with Lady Josefina Salazar, as well as Eugenia Bonilla, cousin of Policarpo Bonilla, among many other ladies of Honduran society in the early twentieth century.

He was granted the direction of the Scientific Institute "San Carlos" in the period of 1884-1886.

Between 1886 and 1889 he was editor of "La Voz de Copán" a weekly that was published in the city of Santa Rosa, this was a means to make himself public in his political pretensions.

From 1899 to 1903, he was Minister of Public Instruction in the cabinet of President Terencio Sierra.

From January 30 to February 18, 1903, he was a member of the Council of Ministers of Honduras of 1903.

Due to the need for pharmacies in the region, Dr. Juan Ángel Arias Boquín, founded the "Central Pharmacy" which was located where the main offices of Banco de Occidente, S.A. are currently located.

Political life

Juan Ángel Arias Boquín was proclaimed as the candidate of the Liberal Party, for the Honduran presidential election to be held in 1902; to give impetus to the candidacy was founded "El Debate" a political weekly, liberal, written in the city of San Pedro Sula and being Directors: Manuel F. Barahona and Teodoro F. Boquín and in opposition to that of General Manuel Bonilla candidate of the Party La Democracía.

Manuel Bonilla was the official candidate of the Democracy Party (Base that was of the current National Party of Honduras), obtaining 28,550 votes (48.7%) proclaiming himself the winner, the other candidates were Dr. Juan Ángel Arias Boquín of the Liberal Party of Honduras who obtained 25,118 votes (42.9%); and Dr. Marco Aurelio Soto of the Patriotic Union Club Party who obtained 4,857 votes (8.3%)

Dr. Arias Boquín on February 18, 1903 and before the president of the National Congress of Honduras, took office as President of the Republic, which nationalist opponents called both unconstitutional and usurper.
