#SkyClan deserves interesting villains too
Note
Favorite villain? I have to go with the OG Tigerstar, he reminds me so much of Shere Khan from the Jungle Book, and I’ve always imagined him with the voice of Tony Jay, or second choice of George Sanders. The way Tigerstar died was a shocker too. Also, what character do you think should be in the Dark Forest? It’s Rainflower, Sandgorse, Raggedstar and Clear Sky for me. Rainflower abused Crookedstar just for this looks, Sandgorse abused Tallstar just because he didn’t want to be a tunneler, and Raggedstar was abusive to Yellowfang. I haven’t read that much of Clear Sky, I’ve only just read Moth Flight’s Vision, but in that book he ordered another cat to go after Micah who was killed because of it, and then literally did nothing afterwards. I’ve heard he’s done other bad stuff too! Thoughts ?
Some of my favorite villains are Scourge, Sol, Mapleshade and Dark Tail!
Scourge is just,,,such an interesting yet very simple villain? Like, he just wants revenge and just like Tigerclaw, his greed is ultimately what gets him killed. The first of many who have fact relieved about them after the fact and kts never addressed in canon (him and Firestar being half brothers, honestly I kind Scourge and Tigerclaw being half brothers would've been more interesting)
Sol is just pretty and dumb and i like that in a villain. He is also simultaneously the smartest cause he survived tricking Blackstar (he lived only cause of his looks...and probably cause he literally just d i p p e d) and he survived both of his encounters with the clans in general. Hope he's fat and happy wherever he is.
Mapleshade is a horrible, terrible woman and i love her. Like, awful person, cool character as far as warrior villains go. She's also the only character i like that ive goten anon hate over so...yeah. Feel like if the erins wanted her to come off as more sympathetic in her backstory they should've leaned into her actually naively thinking her kits could stop thunderclan and riverclan from fighting or making her a toxic positive kind of person instead (like, she cant or wont recognize Appledusk as a not great person or her giving excuses for everyone else so when she finally acknowledges all the bad stuff it hits harder or something) or maybe if we saw more of her life before Appledusk and her kits. Either way, deserves to be in the dark forest, BRUTAL lady, dont know why she wants revenge agaisnt all the clans when she's so obviously has a blood feud that ends with Stormfur and Reedwhisker.
Dark Tail is actually scary. Like, Tigerclaw was sneakily scary, you never knew when he was gonna strike next but with Dark Tail he just felt unstoppable. Stupid backstory, like, I hate it so much, but Dark Tail in general was really cool and the fact he tore shadowclan in two (again...leave my favorite clan alone erins come on) was cool (despite the fact we've seen this before e r i n s). He should've killed Mistystar, he also should've been in the second half of Avos instead of first. Him following Skyclan wouldve made the conflict better and feel like the otber clans distrust and weird hate for skyclan a little founded in logic then just them being dumb cause the plot died with the villain.
Cats who should've gone to the DF -
ASHFUR WE ALL KNOW WHY
Rainflower, ABSOLUTELY should've been in the Dark Forest. We should've seen Rainflower crawling up to Crookedstar begging for forgiveness, playing up an act like she changed but Crookedstar just turns away from her cause he knows she hasn't changed at all.
Sandgorse is...iffy for me? I haven't finished reading Tallstar's revenge but he never came off as abusive to me? I could be wrong cause I have also been under the false impression that Shrewclaw wasn't abusive either so if I am wrong I apologize. He just feels like he more...frustrated than angry at Tallkit/paw and he didn't handle it well. (Which still isnt great, you're allowed to be frustrated but you should never take it out on your kids regardless of the circumstances) So I'll get back to you on this one.
Raggedstar defiantly deserves it, I think Oakstar (TC) should also be in the Dark Forest for kitten endangerment and starting an ultimately pointless war with kittypets. Like. Seriously man.
I haven't finished nor do i think I ever will finish DoTc. But from what i hear Clear Sky sucks so yeah ill agree with that one. If Gray Wing is silverpelt than Clear Sky can be the stubborn bitch keeping everyone in the DF. He is the swampy ground, the grabing, pulling foliage, he is the clear, empty sky above you and he is the reason that you are a l o n e...cause if he had to be alone, then so do you. Also Clear Sky just...sucks so yeah throw him in the naughty kitty pit with the rest of 'em.

For fun, dump me some of your current fave things about whatever special interest you want…i would love to hear ❤️👀
Ooo okay I’m gonna talk about warrior cats for a bit, I have my sideblog @ashwiing for it but it’s mostly sharing art and not ranting so I’ll give some quick info!
- there are 7 total series - each one is 6 books long. One series is just a distant (? I haven’t finished those) prequel, while the other 6 are all in order. The first series was my favorite, followed by the second, and then the fifth... (the third and fourth were boring to me) but!! This currently running series is my fav now... the fifth book comes out this week and I haven’t seen it yet BUT I actually have high hopes. It’s very dark, surprisingly so for a kids book, moreso than the previous series. But anyways -
- my favorite character is leafpool, she’s a medicine cat (healer). She’s the daughter of the main character from the first series. Basically, medicine cats aren’t allowed to fall in love or have kits, but she ended up falling for this douchebag named crowfeather, from another clan (which is also forbidden). She has 3 kits with him, but to avoid being kicked out of the clan or losing medicine cat status, her sister squirrelflight raises the kits and claims they’re her own. Obviously later on it’s revealed she’s their mother and it’s very dramatic and whatnot. But she’s my fav, idk why, she’s given a lot of shit (and her sister too who also one of my favs) and I care her... sadly she died a couple of books ago, and almost didn’t go to heaven because of the whole “forbidden love” thing. Yes the cats have a heaven and hell. She deserved better honestly.
- there are no canonically lgbt cats as far as I’m aware of but everyone in fanbase agrees that tallstar and Jake were boyfriends... Jake was a housecat so he doesn’t have a call warrior name, but tallstar was leader of windclan, and a very good boy.
- there are 5 clans. Thunderclan is where most of the protagonists belong to, they live in typical forest type area. Shadowclan live in pine forests, and typically antagonists are from that clan, but the newer books have shown them in a better light, which is great. Riverclan is... they live near rivers and fish a lot. Windclan like wide open plains and hunt rabbits. Annddd skyclan live in forests too and are good climbers. Skyclan actually left the other clans, then rejoined in the fifth series. Leafpool was actually named after Leafstar, their leader. (I refuse to believe she was named after spottedleaf).
- a lot of the relationships in warrior cats are either bad, or just boring... Like idk why people who like warrior cats get into shipping cuz they’re cats and whatnot? But they’re all very same-y or even BadTM (please stop writing warriors dating their apprentices bleh, also the writers keep forgetting their family trees and accidentally creating incest) BUT I do like bristlefrost/rootspring/shadowsight from the current series. They’re actually good to each other I’ll talk about them a bit cuz they’re the best protagonists in forever
- shadowsight is a medicine cat, he’s also the son of Tigerstar II and Dovewing, which means he’s descended from firestar (the original protagonist) and Tigerstar I (the original villain). He’s in shadowclan, and receives visions from starclan (cat heaven) and also... evil cats from dark forest (hell). He’s manipulated by the current villain and even gaslighted and it makes my heart hurt, and nobody trusts him anymore :( but he’s a sweet boy. Rootspring is in skyclan, and he’s the son of tree (a cat who can see ghosts) and violetshine (a protagonist from series 5). Anyways, he can also see ghosts and is also a sweet boy. Bristlefrost is In thunderclan and daughter of ivypool (protagonist from series 4). I forgot who her father is and I don’t care. Stickler for the rules but cool as hell.
- oh speaking of lgbt headcanons from earlier, redtail is a male tortoiseshell, which means he’s trans :) even tho it wasn’t intended by the writers. Also he dies in the prologue of the first book but. Whatever.
- uhhhwhatelse... Oh yeah there’s housecats named Bacon and Eggs and that makes me happy

Warrior Cat Asks - Responses
hey!!! a heads up---- there's a lot of spoilers in this post! i also curse several times, so if you're uncomfortable with that, feel free to skip over this post!!
When/how you got into Warrior Cats
Uhhh i don't remember when or how?? it was a long, long while ago, and i don't have the greatest memory.
Favourite clan
oooo! i like skyclan the best, but windclan and riverclan are close behind!
Least favourite clan
uhhhh probably shadowclan? i actually don't really dislike any clans, and i think they all have their strengths and weaknesses, but the majority of characters that i dislike end up being from shadowclan.
Favourite arc
either prophecies begin or dawn of the clans! both feel like the most put together of the series, and they both feel like something... new and different.
Least favourite arc
omen of the stars. the whole arc felt like the erins sat on a google doc writting their own versions of the story and only glancing at the other versions. the amount of continuity errors is infuriating, which is a shame, because the plot is so interesting.
Favourite protangonist
honestly??? i gotta go with firestar. he's the og and my baby. i adore him so much 💕💕💕
Least favourite protagonist
probably bramblestar. he wasn't so bad at first, but as the series went on, i liked him less and less. by the time i finished bramblestar's storm, i had a general distaste for the guy. squirrelflight deserves a husband that actually cares about her feelings, and that's that on that.
Favourite antagonist
mapleshade!!!!! i LOVE her!!! she's a darling!!!!!!!!!
Least favourite antagonist
ashfur. he's a bastard (pardon my language) and didn't deserve starclan. "his only fault was that he loved too much" yeah, that and he tried to kill three people :/
Favourite side character
mothwing!!! i love my lorge med cat lesbian ❤❤❤
i also h*cking adore fuzzball!! fuzzy bab heart heart
Least favourite side character
i don't wanna pick ashfur again, but uhhh i can't think of any other side character i dislike more.
Favourite leader
probably leafstar? from what i've read, she has yet to do anything overly problematic, and i stan unproblematic queens.
Least favourite leader
seeing as i don't wanna pick bramblestar again, i'll have to go with clear sky. the man doesn't treat his family very well throughout the entire arc, and it's aggravating.
A character that you used to love but now you hate them
i suppose that'd have to be yellowfang. her character really went downhill agter she died, and i can't get over the fact that she lied to squirrelflight's face and said she'd never have kits. yellowfang had her own painful experience with kits, and i can't believe she would've done that during her lifetime.
A character that you used to hate but now you love them
uhhhh i don't... have one? this sort of thing can be a tad difficult in warriors, because often, the issues i have with characters is sort of.... brushed aside. the closest i can get, i suppose, would be hollyleaf. i didn't hate her, i just.. had a couple issues with her. and i don't love her now, but i like her character a lot better since she's had the time to reflect on the things she's done and the problems she caused. i like that what she did was acknowledged, and it wasn't resolved immediately with 100% forgiveness by everyone.
Favourite pairing
ooo, i got loads of these!!!! i got a whole-ass list, here:
Leafpool x Cody
Leafpool x Mothwing
Leafpool x Sorreltail (LISTEN man leafpool attracts the tops, ALRIGHT???)
Bluestar x Rosetail (hnnnn bluerose)
Bluestar x Thrushpelt
Jake x Tallstar
Ravenpaw x Barley
Stormfur x Brambleclaw
Sandstorm x Silverstream
Sandstorm x Firestar
Sandstorm x Princess
Greystripe x Silverstream
Leafstar x Echosong
Leafstar x Billystorm
Evil!Spottedleaf x Mapleshade
Least favourite pairing
uhhh probably squirrelflight x ashfur. i'm not a fan of squirrelflight and bramblestar, either. i've seen someone say they ship ravenpaw and tigerstar I before, which almost made me burst into tears, so... there's that too, i guess
Favourite friendship
firestar, greystripe, ravenpaw! the og's! firestar, greystripe, and sandstorm are also absolutely fantastic 👏 👏
Overrated character
hm... probably brokenstar? idk, he's just not as.... villain-y as later antagonists.
Underrated character
mudfur!!!! the man loses his mate and three of his kits, dotes on leopardstar, who is his only surviving child, then decides he'd rather become a medicine cat and save lives than destroy them.
Best battle/fight
uhhh i think probably the battle where onestar and darktail drowned each other. it was a wild thing to read, and it left me in utter shock when i first read it.
Best moment
uhhhhh when tallstar's getting his nine lives and he gets one for love or smthn and immediately thinks for like,,,, 2 paragraphs about jake
Best/saddest death
saddest death goes to ravenpaw :(((( i almost cried in class when i read ravenpaw's farewell
best death goes to tigerstar I! it was the first warriors death that genuinely horrified me!
Something you would change if you could
hmm.... i'd probably include more queer characters and less drawn-out "will they won't they" cross-clan relationships. forbidden romances are great, but the more they're used, the more exhausting they get. and warriors should have more queer characters- there's only been four so far, they were all guys, and only two of them actually ended up together. this is within 70+ books! where are the lesbians? the trans cats? the nonbinary cats? i like how many cats there are that don’t see the interest in having mates and kits, but there's been less and less of them as the series goes on.

and as a last one: what are your thoughts on a vision of shadows? is there anything you would've wants to change if you could?
now HERE’S a good one. this ended up really long so ill put it under a cut
i think it’s really important to note that AVOS, kinda like the new prophecy, is distinctly seperated into two parts by the plot. the first half is the darktail plot, and the second half is the skyclan plot
the first half of AVOS is one of my favorite arcs. i think its tonally more like the first series or the second half of TNP, which is really about interclan politics and down to earth struggles and the arcs of a few characters. i enjoy some of the high concept stuff of POT and OOTS, but i think cat drama storylines in warriors tend to be... better written. anyway yeah just this growing conflict of the clans falling apart and darktail getting more powerful is really compelling!
actually i was gonna say, i think darktail’s kin has.... well it’s not efrafa, but i think its up there in evil animal groups as far as being effectively scary and intimidating. there’s nothing really sprawling or extensive about the kin or darktail as a villain and i think thats why it works best? its just a scary rogue group taking over lead by a clever and manipulative dude who hurts people. darktail himself i think has definitely earned his place among warriors villains. he’s kind of sol 2.0 (though i actually like sol’s backstory better? i think sol’s simpler backstory > darktail’s luke skywalker plotline but its not TERRIBLE) but actually allowed to be effective
one of my favorite parts of AVOS is the female characters!!! 2/3 POV characters are female. and one of them isn’t thunderclan!!  needletail and (obviously) violetshine are standout characters to me. needletail is a fascinating tragic story of someone who’s good that makes some bad choices and gets misguided. violetshine is someone hardened by adversity and isolation who still stays brave.... twigbranch is. Fine. she’s a lot like dovewing imo where she’s not awful but her arc isn’t as... compelling compared to some of the others. poor alderheart is actually a good character too and would be a standout in another series, but needletail and violetshine and darktail kind of overshadow him LOL
maybe im bias because im so used to warriors that i cant see the flaws but i still think shattered sky is a really great warriors book. thunder and shadow is also good but its a middle book, it does everything it needs to but isnt as climatic. apprentice’s quest is... fine, journey books are always a bit eh.
okay this is getting long so let me speak to the second half. it’s. uh. it’s pretty nothing. which makes the flaws even more apparent. it’s all about trying to get skyclan to settle, but none of the conflicts are really sold well... theres only a few interesting things... tree is a decent character. he’s fine. seeing skyclan is fun. mistystar does stuff.
so the first three books of AVOS: good! i recommend if you like warriors. maybe the fourth book too, the end of that has a nice moment of catharsis for the first half. but river of fire and raging storm vary from nothing to aggravating
SO things i would change. while the shadowclan falling apart is done pretty well, there’s this undercurrent of “shadowclan is just a lesser clan than thunderclan” which was.... not great. i think they could’ve sold the social upheavel of the clan more. show rowanstar making more obvious mistakes. needletail makes some good points that are ? never addressed? ummm what else
oh my god okay so the later half has this problem where tigerheart and dovewing disappearing is like a big problem and this big mystery. but tigerheart’s shadow came out before then. so everyone already knows. switch around the release schedule of tigerheart’s shadow and crowfeather’s trial lol
honestly i think AVOS needed a complete restructuring. make darktail the final villain and shattered sky the last book. put skyclan settling stuff as the first few books, to build up tension slowly and then go full darktail in the last few ones. maybe? idk if that would have worked... i do think darktail as a villain only worked for three good books, buut. those last three are really a slow.
also violetshine and twigbranch’s arcs get flipped around and fall apart as the books progress. as soon as they get names, really. it’s really a shame, they deserved so much better.
theres one death in river of fire i cannot ever forgive. but thats all ill say
ummm okay yes ill stop rambling but yeah! i like AVOS a lot, or at least the first few books. if you made it through POT and OOTS you should definitely check out AVOS i think, some aspects are a breath of fresh air after that. its got flaws, major flaws, and are showing some cracks in the formula, but... i think it gets some things right. there’s a reason darktail and needletail have already gotten a lot of fan content, AVOS just has some really compelling stuff. for warriors.
