Julia Wolfe & Sō Percussion - a longform piece in which the percussion quartet plays string instruments
"The real profundity of Forbidden Love is not its experiment in re-purposing classical instruments, but the pervasive presence of American cultural imagery: sewing machines, wood chopping, quilting, square dancing, clogging, and hints of folk melody. The new and experimental become the framework in which a culture is reminded of its far-gone roots, long before a young man named Cage would prepare his piano." — Seen and Heard International Performed by Sō Percussion: Adam Sliwinski - violin I Eric Cha-Beach - violin II Jason Treuting - viola Joshua Quillen - cello Recorded on August 15th, 2020 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, New York, NY Album Artwork and Printing by Matt Van Asselt Forbidden Love was co-commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Carnegie Hall. The world premiere was given by Sō Percussion at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on June 1, 2019. The recording of Forbidden Love was funded by the TIME:SPANS 2020 festival and was made possible by the Earle Brown Music Foundation Charitable Trust. Additional funding for this recording was provided by the Aaron Copland Fund for Music Recording Program.

Don't care that dorky cornballs hate rap because I truly believe it's difficult to get into any genre of music you didn't get a taste of during adolescence unless you're one of those weirdo freaks who listen to new music their entire lives. Yeah there's a racist element to it but overall I think people who actively listen to music outside of pop but say they don't like rap are telling the truth, the musical components associated with hip hop (I'm not talking about lyrics) are largely unpleasant to their ears. I feel the same way about classic rock.
Like I can show a Hamilton stan Story 2 by clipping. - a queer Be Gay, Did Crimes song where a man took his ass to therapy - and I still don't think they would like it. Appreciate it maybe, but not like it.

Jason Treuting - Nine Numbers - solo outing from Sō Percussion member with pieces based on sudoku
Sō Percussion co-founder Jason Treuting flexes his compositional chops with Nine Numbers — a sprawling work that taps into the mysteries of sudoku, the Japanese puzzle game, as a source for rhythmic exploration. Relying on percussive uses of voice, electronic and acoustic instruments, and various blocks, bells, drums and other surfaces, Treuting folds melody, movement and the plosive mechanics of speech into an ebbing and flowing sound environment that digs deep into the notion of what connects numbers to human nature, and vice-versa. Produced by Jason Treuting and Jonathan Low featuring Sō Percussion, Tigue, Troika Percussion, Meehan/Perkins Duo and more

I'm looking up local-ish "Rendezvous" events—which is an odd choice of term for gatherings where people wear 18th century through early 19th century clothing, with an American frontier emphasis, and they usually involve things like flintlock long rifles, axe-throwing contests, and vendors who sell period clothing and supplies. Also called "primitive rendezvous" or "mountain man" events. The participants will camp out, and Indigenous American goods from the same time period are typical, like they're basically trying to replicate the aesthetics and technology of an American frontier outpost.
The general consensus is that clothing, equipment, etc. at a Rendezvous must be pre-1840 in design; which is very entertaining to me. One, the designation of the 1840s specifically as the beginning of Modernity, and secondly, the idea that you could roll up to one of these Daniel Boone reenactment-type events dressed like this:
