4/9/24.
When I saw an annoucement from Spanish label Tenorio Cotobade announcing a Zebra Hunt (Seattle, Washington) LP, I assumed it was a new LP.
Nope, this must just be a new Bandcamp listing. But it did give me an opportunity to revisit this strong release that never had it's own posting. Echoes of The Feelies, The Verlaines, Woollen Kits, The Spires and Michael Beach permeate this release. Frankly, this band's output has grown on me over the years. The songs are solid and the overall jangle is impressive. Rounding this release out is a nice cover of a The Fresh & Onlys song.
You can buy this through Jigsaw Records if you want a domestic shipping fare. By the way, I was just looking in my stacks to see if I own this. The answer is no, but I do own their earlier release "In Phrases". The album next to it in my stacks is Zoogz Rift. I didn't even know I had that.

¡Si vais avisadme, me hará ilusión! ¡Y que lo paséis genial! Zebra Hunt play their album release show this Friday at the Rendezvous in Belltown. They've also just released a video for Haze of Youth from that record. It features the many sites and excitements of a Zebra Hunt show in downtown Ballard. Ahh, the haze of youth!

Ashton Memorial - Ginnels
Ashton Memorial – Ginnels
It’s a May Day twofer.  I’m using this post to remind us all of the 3 bands that make up 95% of Tenorio Cotobade’s (Spain) releases.  Zebra Hunt (Seattle) just released their new album “Trade Desire”.  I think it’s their strongest records to date (and I still think the Glenn Mercer comparison works).
Community Radio are a Sydney, Australia based band and “Look Now You’re Cursed” is their most recent release (2016).  Their sound is a bit smoother than Zebra Hunt, but the songwriting is just as catchy.
While you’re at it don’t forget to listen (or relisten) to Ginnels (Ireland).

Zebra Hunt are a Seattle band with a penchant for releasing records on small Spanish label Tenorio Cotobrade (you can get this in the US on Jigsaw...of course).  This is a band that is improving and expanding its sound.  While they clearly love mid-80s Feelies (listen to “What I Want”) in other spots they seamlessly combine Woolen Men, The Bats and The Feelies.
The vocals can really sound like some of Glenn Mercer’s finer side projects - Wake Ooloo!

I love labels who look outside their country for bands.  Beko Records out of France, Smart Guy Records out of San Francisco, USA, come to mind. Tenorio Cotobade (Spain) does this as well, but on a smaller scale.  They have less than 10 releases but release vinyl from Ireland, Australia and the USA.
Community Radio is out of Sydney, Australia.  They previously released a 7″ on Tenorio, but I think this one is better.  The songwriting is stronger - listen to Puff of Smoke.  The vocals are a bit reminiscent of James Mercer (Shins), but listen to that bass!
Tenorio Cotobade also has a new release from Teenage Moods (Minnesota).  You can find some of their releases on Forced Exposure.

If you live in Seattle and you are searching from some perfect pop and you are willing go half way around the world, then I have something for you. Seattle's Zebra Hunt have just released their debut long player via Madrid, Spain's Tenorio Cotobade. For those of you closer to Madrid, you may not even have to travel the full half way around.

You know you live in a small world when a small indiepop band from Seattle releases their LP on a label in Spain.  That's what happened here and the label is the up and coming Tenorio Cotobade.

The Ginnels, Community Radio and Zebra Hunt are three amazing bands on Tenorio Cotobade.  This label doesn't care what continent you are from.

Zebra Hunt last night at the Sunset in Ballard were a very good time. They played a bunch of new songs and an unhinged cover of the Woollen Kits’ Cheryl. Who cares if the Clean are skipping Seattle when we’ve got Zebra Hunt.
