something i like about the super saiyan transformation is that, while the motivation to make the power-up hair blond was because it was easier for toriyama to draw (if i remember correctly, anyway), it also presents a sort of subtle inversion of the usual (and terrible) light good/dark bad idea.

because remember: goku can only create the genki dama/spirit bomb in his base form. he can't do it in super saiyan form because too much aggression creeps into his heart. while his hair is black he can call on the good will of the universe and all the life within it... and while his hair is blond he can't do that.

it's not so much "dark good, light bad" as it is "dark the power of friendship, light the power of extreme violence". and, as a shounen, the power of friendship is the most important thing at the end of the day (even if the power of extreme violence is also very much a necessary tool for victory within the setting lol)

i understand it is very much Not That Deep. but i do like thinking about it this way. i just think it's neat!
