@jmyb117's discovery about old iasip forums has been a shocker to me! i disagree that mac/dee was EVER in the cards -- sunny always felt very not-like-other-mainstream-comedies (in a good original way, subverting expectations without acting "above" the sitcom format, which rcg clearly love and respect) esp in the early days with the philly externals and characters, so dee/(any of the lads) seemed v unlikely. also there's more chardee than macdee if you HAD to pick. what macdee clues did you see?

i mean its not so much that i think there were clues as much as i do think it was just a result of in the early seasons they didn't have sunny's "identity" as a show quite as locked down so they were opening up different possibilities lol. I have a hunch that was something they were considering, esp cuz they also poked fun at setting Mac/Dee up as a "will they wont they" in Tries to Win an Award. i dont think it was something that ever was concretely set-up, again i think it was just something they considered early on but scrapped in favor of doing a uhhhh love story between two men instead LOL

#i dont rule out possible external network pressures to have a sort of romance set up early on either #but i personally dont think chardee was ever as in the cards in the way ppl thought it was either so im not the best to consult on that lol #again i think neither of em are in love. i think if anything chardee have been used to subvert the typical m/f will they wont they tropes #like Misses the Boat is litrlly supposed to do that. but ppl took it as a sign theyre wholesome/meant to be lovers or whatever #which is Not how i read that ep or any of their interactions #as early as Gets Held Hostage i think rcg made it clear that they are not rlly in love n if anything just use each other LOL #but ykno. thats me #again the macxdee stuff was scrapped early on since kaitlin/rob got together anyway so #theres not rlly a whole lot of concrete 'clues' there. moreso i just feel like it was a possibility as much as anything in the early szns #cuz i feel like at first it was not as clear what they wanted the show to be either so they didnt have all these principles set up #i dont feel like that started until like s3 by which theyd already decided to scrap the macxdee storyline which the Dumpster Baby ep makes #p clear #so. idk i dont hav a very specific answer past what i said abt Tries to Win an Award poking fun at that LOLL
