got sent this post while i was asleep and it has grown exponentially o my. so many thoughts. 2 are very prominent. here’s one.

(dont wanna detract from the main post(s) therefore i am. making my own hehe. also @xamaxenta ilu and i also didnt register the part abt the thames ooooooops oh well)

“and that is?”

“what accent is that?” ace asks, frowning lightly. “i can’t get a read – are you not british?”

sabo blinks, momentarily stunned. he smooths his expression after a pause for recovery. “croatian,” he reveals. “but my parents are serbs, so ethnically, so am i.”

“oh.” ace tries not to let his cheeks color. he’s flustered, though, easy to read from his face. “uh, so. we’re heading for croatia?”

sabo had been about to make a joke about being mistaken for an american more than an englishman, especially during his time in east asia, but at ace’s next inquiry he changes direction. “greece, actually.”

ace looks at him funny, silently begging for an explanation. at least he’s not gawking. or suggesting they were heading for, god forbid, england.

sabo waves him off, not quite willing to divulge, except– “lots of islands to hop between. makes keeping from the authorities really convenient.” he stretches both arms over his head. “you know how to swim?”

“uh, no,” ace reveals quietly.

sabo stops stretching, surprised by the answer. he tilts his head so ace is in his line of view once more. “then what do you do at the beach?”

ace shrugs. his head is lowered, gaze dropped to his lap. he won’t look up when he replies. “never been.”

well.

sabo flits his eyes away, giving ace a moment of solitude. never seen the ocean? that would be one hell of a lie, especially for a resident of an island country. but, strangely, sabo finds he can’t quite believe ace isn’t telling the truth.

“in that case,” he murmurs, prompting ace’s attention once more. gains himself a glance from iron-colored eyes that he counts as a small victory. “it’s not quite the atlantic, but where we’re going, you’ll get sick of the sea before too long.”

ace graces him with a small smile. “looking forward to it.”

sabo remembers to smile back this time. he also makes a mental note to find ace a swim instructor, stat. would be a shame to go through all this ruckus to get him out of a bad situation only to have him drown.
