IWWV shakespeare castings
i was making these cast lists for myself last night because i couldn’t sleep or stop thinking about this book! so i just thought i’d share because i know a lot of people love these characters. if you have a different casting or want to add on with another show, please do! i just thought this was fun haha
Merchant of Venice
Shylock: Alexander
Portia: Meredith
Antonio: Richard
Bassanio: James
Jessica: Wren
Gratanio: Oliver
Nerissa: Filippa
Lorenzo: Colin
okay, let me explain. i think the iwwv characters fit these characters so well. but the antonio/bassanio relationship would definitely get messy for richard and james. like i think richard would be a great antonio and james a great bassanio... individually. together? i'm scared lol. the murder might happen all over again. i would have loved to put oliver in there with james!! because to me, this relationship is the heart of the play. but there’s not another place for richard, so then there’d definitely be a murder haha. but whatever is happening there, i think shylock always steals the show. and alexander could bring such a devastating and tragic undercut to him. and mer could do such a mean portia, i love it.
Twelfth Night
Viola: Wren
Olivia: Mer
Orsino: James
Malvolio: Richard
Sebastian: Oliver
Maria: Filippa
Toby: Alexander
Andrew: Colin
Feste, Fabian, Antonio??
alexander would have also made a great Feste but we he already got to be the Fool in Lear and i just wanted to see pip, alex, and colin prank richard haha. it’s the superior plot after all
Much Ado About Nothing
Leonata: Meredith
Beatrice: Filippa
Benedick: Oliver
Claudio: James
Hero: Wren
Don Pedro: Richard
Don Jon: Alexander
i know. this is kinda wild and all over the place. but just imagine a matriarch scorning and renouncing Hero... isn’t that almost more heartbreaking? and i cant decide between benedick and claudio, i kept switching them back and forth. i finally put oliver as benedick because i think he’d have more chemistry with pip. and although this is another ‘love sick idiot’ role for james at first, i think it progresses to so much more. like personally i HATE claudio by the end, so i think he could have fun with that. i could still see oliver and james switching tho! i like both ways.
Hamlet
Hamlet: Oliver
Horatio: Pip
Claudius/Ghost: Richard
Gertrude: Meredith
Polonius: Colin
Ophelia: Wren
Laertes: James
Player: Alexander
i kinda went off the rails again with this one but i’m into it, i think it works. let oliver and pip shine a little! ik i already gave them much ado but they deserve the world so i’m not sorry 😋  i could also see james as hamlet, oliver as horatio, and pip as laertes. but that felt a bit obvious and boring. something about oliver and pip doing 5.1 together feels so right. and ik horatio is mentioned as a good role for pip early in the book. although ‘he that thou knowest thine’ kinda belongs to james and oliver tho huh... ahh well
Tempest
Prospero: Alexander
Miranda: Wren
Ariel: Pip
Caliban: Richard
Ferdinand: James
Queen Alonsa: Meredith
Gonzalo: Oliver
and the best casting for last! they just fit these characters so well! the other castings were a little more experimental, but this one feels perfect to me. let me know what you think!
