The Starweaver’s Descent
A Moment of Vulnerability

With exhaustion from overwhelming emotions and the journey settling deep into their bodies, the two half-elezen retreated to their inn rooms, Vel joining Jade in hers, with plans to get one together after sleep. Sleep which found them easily after having been reunited.
It was afternoon when they awoke next, and both of them began donning combat viable attire. While they weren’t senseless enough to take to combat in Kugane, they weren’t entirely sure where the journey would take them. Jade had an air of nervouness to her that she tried to brush aside.
She turned to Vel, watching the woman quietly as she dressed herself within her armor. “I’m glad you’re here, Vel... I actually don’t know if I could’ve done this without you... For all the bravado I had...” she murmured softly, realising that she was terrified to do this.
“ Mm... I'm sure you could have... but... why would you, when I'm here to help?” Vel had smiled at her and given the taller woman a light squeeze.
“I’m not used to having help, dear… You know that… It’s… not really ever been a thing for me, y’know?” She frowned slightly, her arms wrapping around herself. “I don’t really know anything other than doing it by myself… It’s why this is so hard for me.”
She shook her head to clear her thoughts, and her brief moment of vulnerability. This was going to take a lot of effort to learn to be comfortable being vulnerable in front of Vel. It really did scare her. Any weakness she’d ever shown got used against her and she could only hope that Vel never would. She wasn’t sure she could handle it.
Vel had merely smiled, the two then taking the time to settle a new room, one big enough for both of them before trying to figure out where their next step would be.
“We should head for the markets. I know a couple of the information brokers there, and hopefully they can point the way, or at least know someone who's seen the man. I do hope you brought lots of gil with you, though...” Vel was the first one to speak up with an idea, it seemed.
Jade raised an eyebrow at Vel as her head tilted with a curious but amused glance. “Dear, it’s me… I knew I had to source information… Did you really think that I didn’t bring a lot of gil with me, hm?” Her voice softened, almost ashamed of herself. “I was part of the Underground for a long time, Vel… I... I know how all of this works…” Without saying another word, she just gestured for Vel to lead the way.
Jade almost wanted to kick herself for the reply she gave to Vel, noticed the embarrassment on the woman’s face as she looked down. Jade knew that Vel, like her, was used to working alone and was most likely just going through the steps in her head.
Vel had murmured something along those lines as she led them towards the markets before she spoke up louder moments later, “I... assume you know what kinds of things he would probably get into... That would help us narrow down which shop and broker to go to...”
“Vel... I’m sorry...” She felt bad, and she knew that Vel hadn’t meant anything by her questions. “I know this is something new for both of us, no?” She couldn’t help the small sigh that escaped her. “We’re both very used to working alone, it seems, but I know you’re just trying to help, my dear. I’m just...” There was a pause as Jade tried to figure out exactly what she wanted to say. “I wish I’d had a different life, that I didn’t know everything I did, y’know?” She then took a moment to ponder Vel’s next question.
“I don’t think he’d return to assassination, not after escaping it... But he did used to organise the trade deals for our Den when he was in charge... So maybe a trader of some kind..? I know the person I heard the rumour from mentioned that he seemed to know the local merchants...” There was a small shrug from Jade, she wasn’t entirely sure what he could be doing now. “He’s a Miqo’te with fiery red hair, orange eyes and full sleeve tattoos, if it helps? If it’s anything like back then, he usually keeps his hair long... I’m sure that wouldn’t be too difficult to find, no?” She handed over a hefty pouch of gil to Vel, one for the sole purpose of finding information. She didn’t want personal supplies to be tapped into. “You know these brokers better than I do...”
“Mm... We’ll get used to it, right? I-I d-don’t plan on going anywhere.. N-not without you... A-and... we’lll ... i-if y-you want... m-make a good, n-new life t-t-together... a-after th-this..?” She’d asked, giving Jade a happy smile. Jade could tell it had been difficult for the woman to ask such a thing but before she could answer, Vel stepped into the nearby store to inquire about K’wata Tia.
