as much as i love this relationship between z 2.0 and ava, i kind of wish legends had developed the friendships between zari 1.0 and some of the time bureau ladies a bit more last season. bc like, maybe its just me, but i always kind of wanted zari to be that one person that sara and ava find themselves lowkey relying on, talking to when they can’t talk to each other. like, yes, i loved the friendships that zari 1.0 developed w sara and amaya and charlie but??? think of the potential she had with nora or ava or mona.

more below the cut because this got heated and long

(i know they sort of did that last one in 4x11, but it didnt feel like a very consistent thing, like. the charlie/mona relationship from that episode was far better fleshed out than zari 1.0 and mona’s and as much as i like that relationship, i feel that in a ep that focused specifically on z1.0 and mona, those two should be the ones who develop a strong foundation for a relationship, and that should have been really, pulled out through the season.)

and i guess that was my biggest problem w the nate/z1 storyline last season? while, yes, i liked their development, i felt like it took a lot of time away from z1’s relationships with other members of the team.

i’d have really liked to see ava and z1 interacting and her sort of being both ava and sara’s go-to person when they needed something/someone to take charge or smth bc i can definitely see ava really respecting zari’s no-nonsense approach to the task at hand, and her ability to sympathise with others well.

and nora and zari was an interaction ive been hoping for since the very beginning of s4 bc that was how they seemed to set up the storyline: for zari to be ray’s voice of caution when it came to nora. like, i do love darhkatom, and i loved ray’s sort of “ill believe in your ability to be a good person even if you’re not sure you can be” attitude, i still feel like it should have been tempered by at least some other character’s caution about nora. and zari was the person that they clearly set up for that role. without that, frankly, the darhkatom plot seemed lowkey flat to me, because there was no one to be like, “i know i was always unsure about her, but i also thought she was trying to be better” after nora was accused of killing hank, and that made it kind of. idk like the darhkatom plot (and really all of ray’s storylines in s4) really kind of disconnected with the rest of the season.

and on a lighter note, nora and zari were the only two zoomers of the ensemble, and i really wanted to interact for the pure reason of future shenanigans. like, nora or zari saying shit like, “damn life was fucking schway when they still had sugar in candy” and the other just nodding like that makes perfect sense while the rest of the crew is like, “what is a schway??? what happened to sugar in candy??” and like. their shared future-present sort of gives them the ability to say like, “hey remember that one thing that happened?” and sort of process trauma that they might have both gone through because of the anti-meta laws and stuff.

and i guess mona and zari’s thing is what really kind of pissed me off bc. zari never really had a surrogate younger sibling friend on the waverider. (you can make the argument for wally or jax but jax already had his own established place in the ship and it really felt more like he was the older brother indulging his younger sister by letting her distract him with video games, and wally and zari were only developed for one ep before it was go time to throw the legends into season finale development.)

with mona, their relationship was established, early on, as mona being the hopeful/cheerful one, and with zari being the cynic, much in the same vein as zari and ray. however, the key difference between zari and ray and mona and zari is the difference in character development between mona and ray, as of when they are developing their respective relationships with zari. ray is an already established character in phone home, and so, zari’s character arc uses him as a sort of,,, like those cages that they make for vines to grow onto. mona, on the other hand, uses the more turbulent character of zari to try and have them both grow together, in seance and sensibility. this more parallels the arc of sara and zari’s relationship, where zari acts as a sort of a younger sibling to sara. the whole development of mona and zari lends itself to a mona being the slightly annoying sunshine younger sibling and zari being the cynical if-you-hurt-her-you-die older sibling, and then,,, it just doesn’t deliver. instead, you get occasional annoying shipper mona, and irritated zari, and tbh thats just highkey disappointing.

and you can say that it isnt all about zari or that im being dramatic or that they just had a lot of storylines and not a lot of time but,,, frankly, id say youre wrong and making excuses. because the way the season ended, with zari being the one to give herself up, makes it fucking imperative that they try to get that goddamn emotion across to the viewers. and while they got plenty of emotion, it was solely because of the fact that people related to zari. instead, if they had spent zari 1.0′s last season developing all those relationships, instead of just nate and a little bit of charlie and john, they would have brought such a heavy emotional impact because holy shit she impacted every single one of these people, and not one of them even remember her.

im not saying that they shouldn’t have written steelhacker, or anything like that. hell, im glad they developed zari and nates relationship past the point they got it to in 3x11. but at the same time, if they truly wanted the most emotional impact out of the s4 finale, they should have had her be the fucking center of the team, not just nate’s girlfriend and charlie, john, ray, and sara’s friend.

End of time pt 2

It’s been a week since the talk with Savitar and everyone has been ignoring you mostly Barry. Everything Savitar said kept replaying in your mind like a broken record no matter how hard you tried to ignore it.

As the days went by so did your feelings for Barry. You met this guy at work named Joseph. You two were taking it slow at the moment, it was your idea of course just in case if what Savitar said was true and you did die he wouldn’t be heart broken well he would just not as much as he would be if you were romantically involved. You were at Star Labs alone. Everyone was at home asleep it was 3am after all. Why are you even here? You think to yourself but you soon remember when you look at the treadmill Barry uses to train through the glass window. You needed to clear your head and being at Star labs might’ve been a bad idea but it was actually peaceful.

Being at star labs when it wasn’t full of chaos and frustrated speedsters and vengeful meta humans was actually quite peaceful. It gives you time to think about the future or if you even had one. You walk into the training area and sit on the steps while taking in your surroundings. You missed the days it was only you and Barry in this room.

You would be watching him run around with a huge smile on his face like he’d won the lottery or just simply telling each other jokes. Now all you two do is argue about nothing. You can’t really blame him, he’s stressing himself while trying to save Iris. You were cut from your thoughts when you looked in the doorway to see Barry staring back at you.

“Y/n what are you doing here” Barry questions and your breath hitches as you stand up, his eyes never leaving yours.

“Wow I don’t get a word from you in a week and that’s the first thing that comes out your mouth” you say nervously.

“I’ve been busy” Barry leans against the door and you felt your eyes water but you refused to let them fall.

“Well um I should get going, it is quite early” you try your best to walk pass him but he easily blocks your path.

“What’s on your mind y/n?”

“Barry can we talk about this later” you mumble

“I know you been thinking about what Savitar said, I’ve noticed how troubled you look everytime we mention him” You don’t understand where all of this is coming from. You haven’t heard from Barry in a week and all of a sudden he actually wants to see how you’re doing.

“All is well Barry-“

“Stop, just stop it’s okay to be afraid y/n just talk to me I miss you I know I’ve been acting like a complete asshole and I’m sorry” You finally looked up at the speedster to see tears in his eyes and that’s when you decided to forgive him. You and Barry been through to much to end this way.

“Barr, look at me” you let your hand find its way to his cheek and he leans into your touch

“I’m okay don’t worry alright” you whisper and he nods his head and pulls you closer to his body, in that moment the both of you forget about everything going on and a smile forms on your face while Barry nuzzles his head into your neck as he forgets about Iris, but only for a moment.

Hours later you walk into Star Labs actually feeling happy for once in a while.

“Hi everyone” you greet as you threw your cardigan to the side and everyone greets you back with a warm smile except Iris but you just ignored that.

“Any update?”

“Uh actually, Barry here may have an idea to stop Savitar” Cisco grabs a box as you look at Barry with raised eyebrows and a teasing smile which he gets flustered at.

“What’s with the box”

“Well this right here may be another philosopher’s stone and if so it can be the key to stop Savitar”

“But where did you find another box?”

“Long story actually so lets skip that and open it” You shrug your shoulders and walk closer to get a good look at the box just as Cisco opens it to find...nothing.

“Damnit” Barry mumbles as Iris runs a hand through her hair.

“Well that’s that now what” she says with a snarky tone

“Iris calm down we are doing everything we can to stop Savitar okay” as the words were coming out of your mouth you were looking at the empty box with a confused expression, something was off.

“Y/n don’t even say anything about helping okay you haven’t been helping before why start now” she retorts and you roll your eyes but just as you opened your mouth Barry cuts you off.

“Iris, she’s right we’re doing everything we can” He rubs his face and you put rest your hand on his shoulder, trying to comfort him. Iris on the other hand was looking at the both of you suspiciously.

“Look guys I have to go to work but when I return we are all going straight to jitters, we need the distraction” you walked out mumbling the last part to yourself.

“Barry can we talk?”Cisco asks and Barry nods -

“What’s up” Barry folds his arms

“Do you actually think we can stop Savitar, he’s always one step ahead and the other day he revealed y/n ends up dying not long after Iris dies...what if his plan is to kill us one by one Barry” Cisco looks at his speedster friend with worry in his eyes

“Cisco, everything will be fine...Iris and y/n will be okay and so will everyone else we’re not losing anyone no time soon-“

“But what if we do Barry, we’re slowly losing Caitlyn to the dark side, we’re trying to save Iris and now we may lose y/n...Barry something happened recently that altered the future and somehow y/n got involved we have to change something if we want to succeed in stopping Savitar”

“Hey Cisco man you’re thinking too much about this you need to chill or you’re gonna drive yourself crazy, just leave it to me alright I’ll think of something” and with that Barry leaves.

Currently you and all of team flash were atJitters awkwardly sipping on your coffee. Right before all of you left you made them promise not to talk about the Savitar situation and now here you are just staring in each others faces.

“So y/n, how was work” Caitlyn asks you as she plays with her coffee mug You look up and smile at the red haired woman

“it was chaotic actually, I had to ID a severely burned victim and I found a strange marking on them but plot twist the victim wasn’t dead, found that out after they jumped in my face and experienced a mini heart attack” you widened your eyes as you put an emphasis as the word heart attack leaves your mouth and Caitlyn giggles.

“Well I’m just glad your okay” Barry says with a lazy smile

“Well of course I’m okay Barr, I can hold my own just like you” you smirk and Iris rolls her eyes once again

“Hey Barr, come with me to order another coffee yeah?” Iris pulls on Barry’s arm as she stands up to leave the table.

“Don’t take too long guys” Joe calls out after them

“So Wally, how’s being a speedster” you ask and the boy looks up from his phone, he had been texting Jessie the entire time.

“um it’s awesome y/n, I’m pretty sure I’m the fastest man alive” Cisco chokes on his coffee as Joe chuckles and you smile and bit your tongue.

“Don’t let Barry hear that” you smirk just as Barry and Iris comes back to the table.

“Hear what?” Barry asks as he sits back down and looks at you suspiciously.

“That I can beat your butt in a race” Wally sassily says and Barry raises his eyebrows

“Oh yeah? You’re on” and just like that the two speedsters were gone, leaving you and Joe to clean up the coffee that spilled on the table.

“I CALL BARRY” Cisco yells

“I CALL WALLICE” H.r yells And the two grown but childish men ran outside.

“I should go keep an eye on them, you know make sure they don’t hurt themselves” Caitlyn says while standing up and you nod

“I’ll come with” Iris grabs her things and makes her way to the exit and you and Joe just look at each other while laughing.

“It’s so good to get my mind off everything, it was a great idea y/n” Joe says and you look up at the older man with a warm smile

“Just like old times” you whisper and look out the window where you can faintly see a red blur down the street.
