I may or may not have binge scrolled through this entire blog until 2am, it was very entertaining I love your posts!! I wanted to ask you to elaborate on your thoughts on if kageyama and hinata are friends or can be considered friends since basically all they have is volleyball, It was like in the tags of ur season s2 ep 5 (I think) posts it was a very interesting take 🤔

and!! an excuse to rant about the kghn dynamic!! (like that’s not what this blog is for in the first place but um anyway)

okay, so i looked back at the tags you were talking about and tbh i worded it kinda poorly LMAO. but basically, yes, i do think they’re friends! but in a way that is a bit different from hinata’s other friends.

this portion from the hq!! wiki basically summarizes the pet of their relationship i’m try to describe:

first of all. WTF KAGS :(((((((((((((((

okay but for real, kageyama isn’t the type of friend that hinata actively hangs out with outside of volleyball club. they do talk occasionally because, well, they go to the same school and they know each other pretty well so it would be weird to just act like they don’t know each other. dumbass to dumbass communication still occurs quite frequently.

them not hanging out often doesn’t make their friendship less valid or anything, they just don’t really have much of a reason to talk to each other unless it’s about their common interest.

hinata and kageyama have volleyball as their common interest! they are both completely and utterly obsessed with volleyball and their roles on the team make it so that they can directly help each other play.

so, that’s the difference between kageyama and hinata’s other friends. kageyama has become an integral part of hinata’s favorite thing in the world and vice versa. they met through volleyball, so it’s only fair that their primary focus when around each other is, well. volleyball.

this leads into the iconic quote from s2e5:

(sidenote: i will never forgive the hq dub for how it murdered this line. WHY WOULD YOU SWITCH THE ONLY TWO WORDS THAT MATTER. YOU MADE IT MEAN SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT YOU ABSOLUTE FOOLS.)

basically, kageyama is his friend but that’s not what about their relationship that makes it significant. hinata has tons of friends. he’s the most outgoing dude on this planet, ofc he does.

kageyama is his partner. hinata has been waiting his whole life for someone who loves volleyball as much as him, someone who can understand why he is so determined, someone who can match him, someone he can chase after, someone who evolves alongside him, someone who can help him grow stronger and stronger, someone who would help him see the view from the top. kags is!! all of it!!!! he is the perfect fit for the rival and partner hinata wanted in order to play volleyball at his best. kageyama just made hinata fall in love with volleyball all over again, and damn if that ain’t beautiful 😭😭

tldr; they are friends but they are partners above all else :’)
