i hope that what kawi took from the little speech pisaeng gave him is that yes, we have influence in other people’s lives, but we also have to take into account that they still are their own people, and they still have willpower and free will to make their own choices that influence their own future. you can try to do your best and like pisaeng said, be optimistic that that’ll be enough.

@thebroccolination 's amazing post about Pisaeng and Kawi's relationship had me thinking thoughts and now I'm making it everyone's problem.

I think if we would have gotten a conversation between Kawi and Pisaeng right before they got intimate at the end of the episode, I would feel better about how the conversation around sex was handled this week.
I appreciate what the show was trying to go for when discussing how some need sex, are reluctant, aren't interested in it, etc. But it would have been a little better if:
Kawi discussed how he doesn't really desire sex, but that it is something he is willing to try with Pisaeng (especially because I gathered he was somewhere on the ace spectrum at the beginning of this episode)
Pisaeng reassuring Kawi that they'll take things slow/sex can be lots of things that don't involve penetration/etc. as this man is more than willing to do anything for Kawi anyways (just look at the double meaning with "Would you like to get on top instead then?")
What they want, don't want, and are willing to try with each other
They don't necessarily need to hit all the points I listed, but 30 to 45 seconds of dialogue before the check-in and consent would have made the final scene that much more impactful after the build-up to that moment throughout this episode.

Be My Favorite is rewiring my entire brain istg... just unraveling those brain wrinkles and resculpting them in exciting new shapes and patterns
#be my favorite#be my favorite spoilers#what an episode#for kawi to realize it's not just about being kind to himself and fixing the life he wants#but being kind to pear and pisaeng and caring about the life they get#especially worst timeline pear#he has time-ruined her life beyond all belief#will he take responsibility#and like ok ok ok the thing where pisaeng is like you helped me with something big and i'll always be grateful for that#the specifically queer experience of the person who makes you KNOW you're queer#pisaeng knew-ish before kawi. he and his mom have discussed it#but kawi made it firm and unchangeable and something he could no longer hide from or run from#so no matter how much kawi hurts him after that no matter how much he confuses him and pushpulls him#he's that person to pisaeng the person who made everything clear the person who made him brave#ahhh that's so reallllllllllllllll#and praying with all my heart they are very deliberately writing not and notpear and notkwan the way they are#never expecting us to ship it but laying the groundwork so we understand this future#pisaeng was right to friend breakup with not and has stayed right#please if the show does pearkwan it will become my new top ten stars show of all time i'm trying to manage my expectations#because i don't THINK it's going that way#but o! how i want it!#but yeah ships aside just kawi realizing that pear's life going well matters more to her & her happiness#than his life going well#and realizing thusly that that matters more to HIM#than his own successful future#i would like to see it#treat the girl who has been so great to you greatly please#and that guy you're so grateful for? who you feel unworthy of?#stop focusing on what is bad or unworthy about you start focusing on how to support him and his life into something worthy of him#do you see it? my vision??? gah this story has so much potential i'm so hype

I don’t know yet what to make of Be My Favourite? I really like Gawin’s acting here, its spectacular and charming as always. Krist is someone I cannot figure out. (Prefacing this to say I haven’t seen any of his previous work and this is my first impression of him and its still building, I haven’t written him off okay? Nobody come shout at me).
Is Krist annoying or is Kawi annoying? If Kawi is annoying, is it because he’s written shittily or is that the point of his character? Is Krist then that good of an actor? Is the story a stroke of genius or contrived writing? I can’t make sense of it!
We can say that Kawi is a person who lives in his head and in his regrets and is stuck as a person. He is childish at 30 because he never grew up, he never let go of what could have been so he never became anything. And now, he gets to grow and really learn for himself what he can do if he just lets himself. And I really want that for him!! But so many things are making me doubt if this is how the show will treat Kawi because he gives up on his friend (Max -- Aou!! Aou, its so good to see you!! The pink highlights look so good!) and his dad!! HIS DEAD DAD Y’ALL!! HE JUST ACCEPTS THE WHOLE DEATH HAPPENS THING! He also immediately turns to exploit Pisaeng for money and like -- you can write that into his character but I have my doubts about it. Which is why I cannot disregard that maybe he’s just written to be annoying start to finish (which will make watching this show so painful because he behaves like a spoilt 5 year old and I cannot stand that).
It’s paced well, I will give it that. They didn’t stretch the whole gotta-tell-Pear thing and I am so grateful for it. The ending of EP 2 was also good and I really do see the potential for this to be a great series, with well rounded characters and a sound plot. But I’m not willing to bet on it yet. Be My Favourite -- I really hope you come through just because there is so much potential and I would hate to see it wasted.

Be My Favorite Ep 10 Musings
I can't stop thinking about the parallel of the three conversations with parents that happen in this episode:
Kawi and his father, in which his father asks Kawi to promise not to stagnate if he dies [and the fact that they left this conversation to this episode rather than the last one feels intentional]
Pear and her father, in which her father underscores for her that a "perfect life" life is not a stagnate goal, it's going to keep moving and be complicated and the things you might think you want now might change later, and as you keep living it your circumstances will change, so aiming to be resilient and open to change is a better goal
Pisaeng and his mother, in which his mom tries to discourage Pisaeng and Kawi's relationship because she wants to protect Pisaeng from harm, and Pisaeng (beautifully delivered by Gawin) begs to be allowed to be happy, which is not the same thing as safe at all
Because as we saw from Kawi's initial future, staying still is not happiness. And as we saw from his third future, getting your "perfect life" is not necessarily happiness either; and neither is keeping your heart safe by not going for your goals (see: Gawin in that third future). And as Max told us before, happiness is worth staying and fighting for.
And we saw Kawi put that into effect right away when he called Pisaeng's mom at the first hint of trouble, even though it turned out he didn't need to, he still got rewarded with her blessing.
But one step forward is not a full behavioural change, and he's still hesitating to have this important conversation about sex with Pisaeng. So I'm hopeful that that conversation will happen [has happened? 🤡]
The link is to @dribs-and-drabbles' poll about this potential clown theory in which Pisaeng time travelled in ep10 when we saw him turn the music globe thing that I also thought maybe had happened and am invested in having maybe happened, though as I keep saying, this show keeps surprising me and coming up with ways things happen that are even better than I thought, so I'm not holding on too tight.
Because all of these threads are coming together so beautifully!
Also btw: all three conversations had the parent expressing regret or a belief that they'd made mistakes to their child. Kawi's dad wished for a do-over, Pear's dad talked about the harm he caused by holding on to his anger for Pear's mother, and Pisaeng's mother admitted she may have made a wrong judgement. There's something beautiful about these parents being able to admit to their children that they aren't perfect and have made mistakes in the episode when their kids start to get their feet under themselves. Everyone in this show is allowed to be so human.
[For that reason I'm not going to pass judgment on what happened at the end of the episode yet because if this show is predictable about one thing, it's that it will show us more of the picture later, and that additional info often changes the meaning of what we saw.]

kawi this episode:
realized that his “most successful future” left him lonely and sick
went back to the past and dealt with the passing of his father a second time
congratulated pear on her accomplishments and assured her to keep her word to go the gallery (which makes me hopeful for pear even if it’s such a small thing)
explained to pisaeng that he’s 30 and showed him the time-travel notebook (even if honey boy isn’t fully sold on it yet)
supported lgbtqia+ events and was there for max to help him realize he should keep fighting for what he believes
confessed his newfound feelings for honey boy
decided to stop drinking
i’m actually pretty proud of him this episode, like let’s go.

be my favorite has totally captured my brain. I keep thinking about how they went from rivals to the first jump back and they develop a friendship and that leads to a future where they are best friends and then another jump back where they get closer, pisaeng tries to help kawi and clearly pisaeng has a growing affection for kawi and that leads to a future where pisaeng is either fighting his feelings or realizing his feelings on his wedding day.
It's clear from the trailer that there will be a point where kawi ends up in a future where he is supposed to be getting married to pearmai. It's so fun to think about what could happen, how the futures could shift, how the feelings could come out and how it could end up with the crux of kawi getting what he thought he wanted only to decide he needed to get back to what he had with pisaeng.
and I can't wait for it.
damn, I'm a slut for time fuckery.
as others have pointed out, this is based on a jittirain novel and I couldn't finish theory of love because of the character dynamics in the beginning and I heard not great things about futs so I didn't bother and although I loved the idea of vice versa, it felt not satisfying for me so 2gether was the only one I liked solidly of her story adaptations so I need to dial back my excitement here.
