ahem. very first thing i noticed was the bg elements being in sync w the music on ohhhohgh my holy fuck whatever nintendo is doing w microdosing their games w some rhythm game elements it is fucken wORKING.

i noticed the ink is shimmery like it was in splat2's finalfest ink, and also when you walk/swim in it it sounds like sand??? i Did not like that bc of The Phantom Textures it gave me at first but it's a really cool concept!!!

ok from here or there r gonna be SPOILERS going from light to heavy bc i finished this thing on like my fourth run(???? genuinely didn't think i would finish it so fast, i was really hoping to savour it better but the hyperfixation really locked in 😭😭😭) so um yeah SPOILER WARNING don't say i didn't warn u :p

ok first off, acht. UGH I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. I LOVE HOW ANIMATED ALL THE CUTSCENES ARE HRRRNGNNGRH. AND THE MUSIC?? OF THE TUTORIAL BOSS????? IS SO FUCKING COOL HELLO???? I DID NOT EXPECT TO SEE MARINA SO SOON, WHY DID NINTENDO FRAME HER DISAPPEARANCE LIKE THAT 💥💥💥💥💥💥

also aGENT 4 MENTIONN!!!!! i'm kind of really sad that the intensifying_harmony(? i forgor the name) boss fight didn't at least have a Trace, a Hint, a Crumb that it was agent 4 somewhere in there. i thought that bc we were given agent 4's palette so early that she was gonna at least have sOME part in side order but no 😭😭

speaking of side bosses the very first time i encountered the layered rotating one i was like. genuinely scared when the ambience when out as i rode the cage to the stage n then the music just blasted 😭😭 but i think its gotta be my fav bos fight of the three :] i'm particularly fond of its soundeffects n such! idk what it is abt them but they're like a safe horror to me if that makes sense hshfkf

and the final boss,, ohhhhohggh myhccod that was the most cathartic boss fight ever. again with the rhythm elements it makes everything so satisfying!! AND THE PART WHERE YOU LITERALLY HAVE TO TAP TO THE RHYTHM. I SCREAMED. OTH FEAT DEDF1SH. AAAUGAHAUAGH ACHT AND MARINA DJING TOGETHER, ACHT'S GAYASS PIERCINGS. N THEIR SINGING VOICE IS SO PRETTY FUUUUCKCJHCHCGCH

n then after that, the 30f boss u fight after having completed the spire once already,, I LOVE THE MUSIC THAT PLAYS THERE SO MUCH 😭😭😭😭 and smollusk,, what the fuck is up with that guy (lovingly)

i. LOST (2004-2010)

this was my whole world for my entire hs existence and into my early college years. half of the shows listed here stems from my first love of the ensemble cast, their interwoven yet clandestine storylines, and the mystery box. at my first sdcc, half of the cast was present when they debuted p1 of the series finale (you’d think i was dead the whole time fksfsk;lv)

ii. Fringe (2008-2013)

yes, i faithfully followed jj abrams into another insane show. i think it actually altered my brain chemistry, rewired something in me, devoured a piece of me. once LOST was over and Fringe brought in the alternate universe, i dove in head first and never resurfaced

iii. Doctor Who (2005-Present)

i think it was technically winter 2010 when i started binging this show because s6 was my first time catching it live (was young and naïve, i caught it on bbca lol) ive been on hellsite for almost two years at the time and fully became a fandom blog, so it was inevitable i would love this series. i think it was the first show i made gifs/edits for???

iv. Lizzie Bennet Diaries (2012-2013)

oh look, my dna makeup shifts again. i actually started watching this show the week leading up to Darcy Day and can still vividly remember the migraines from binging 8-10min eps times 60ish worth of content. this show got me into writing my first fic, running an rp blog, creating instrumental playlists, making a DWxLBD blog, AND eventually flying my ass back to CA to meet the cast and beloved mutuals at VidCon

v. Orphan Black (2013-2017)

happy international women’s day to this show and this show only! i think of all the shows listed here, this is the first time since LOST i caught all the eps in real time from the very beginning. this was filling the hole Fringe was about to carve deep in me. but if you cut me open, you will find the beth-shaped hole that nothing/no one has been able to fill and likely will never fill til the end of time

the jessi special: The Collapse of Nature (04x01)

vi. Shadowhunters (2016-2019)

im willing to admit that the reason i got into this show was because of the wedding kiss haha i saw the clip, signed the adoption papers on the spot, and went on to write a 100K+ wip series. admittedly, i confess that this was a DNF and never finished the last season... i abandoned my boy.gif

the jessi special: Of Men and Angels (01x06)

vii. Sense8 (2015-2018)

a show about eight children than i gave birth to, that i raised on my own, that i will defend on my death bed and beyond??? that show sense8?? yes that show sense8. fun fact, when they did the screening of the finale in Chicago, the cast ended up sitting three rows behind me in the theater and i could hear them talking in between scenes the entire evening. wish i could bottle that feeling up

the jessi special: I Have No Room in My Heart for Hate (02x07)

viii. Bad Buddy (2021-2022)

and we finally made it to the current decade! its nov 2021, im fresh off leaving my previous job and still getting situated in my new position, yet this show was a siren calling to me in the dark mist of my life. i ended up saving the binge watching for the week of my bday and my whole life shifted again. it must have been so alarming on the outside, seeing me go from making 1-2 edits a month to 1-2 edits a day for almost THREE MONTHS. the fact that i still cont to avg two edits/week since then... oy lol

Here we are! Credit to my sister for the core concept of this:

The room was coming together nicely. They still had no clue what this show was going to be about, but in her opinion there was no binge watching session that wouldn’t be enhanced by a couch full of extra pillows and comically large bowls of snacks.

“Are you sure about this?” the expected shy question came from the adjoining room. “We can definitely watch something you know.”

She spun around to face her roommate, who had appeared in the doorway, holding their laptop. 

“You promised me a full introduction into this show, including fan theories and personal headcanons,” she reminded her emphatically. “Don’t hold out on me now.”

They pulled a face, half-smiling. “Alright, alright, I’m just saying. If it gets boring… I mean, it’s not really your kinda–”

She put a hand on either of their shoulders, mostly for dramatic effect, but also because stuff like this always made her want to hug them and right now the laptop was in the way. 

“Listen, listen, not only do I love you and do I love seeing you excited, I have also been doing nothing but study and rest to get through this deadline. I cannot afford to get into any of my kinda shows. I cannot afford to get into anything right now. So please, from the bottom of my heart, you are doing me a favour.”

This time their smile was wider. “By letting you microdose on hyperfixation?”

“By letting me microdose on hyperfixation!” she crowed, taking the laptop out of their hands and placing it center stage among the snacks. “So let loose with the introductory lecture, I don’t expect to be pressing play before I have heard a full lineup of which characters I ought to look out for.”

To her delight there were no more objections and she finally got to see her roommate grin as they plopped down on the couch. To her even bigger delight they then proceeded to take out their phone and opened what looked to be an extensive amount of notes.

“Alright,” they said, corner of their mouth quirking. “Make with the magic.”

“Don’t mind if I do,” she beamed and she relaxed the wards around her mind, allowing the separation between her own feelings and those of the people around them to fall away. Focusing in on her friend was the easiest thing in the world. Living together will do that. 

“Okay, so–” There was already a glitter in their eyes that hadn’t been there before. “The actual protagonist of this show–”

The words almost faded away in the rush of warmth that they gave to her mind. But this was something she wouldn’t be tested on. This she only had to share and feel. So she sat back, her overworked mind purring with joy, and basked in the second-hand glow of unrestrained, all-consuming enjoyment.

microfics seems a bit like microdosing, just a little bit of jily to take the edge off and not enough of a thing to make you desperate for more. Call me an addict but I'm here to binge, get jily high and live with it in my bloodstream - just as your fics all do.

I still prefer "drabble" as a term, though, it's soft and fun where "microfic" sounds very scientific, either I'm right-brained or I'm set in my ways.
