There are 2 types of exfoliation: Manual (scrubs and brushes that physically remove dead skin cells and dirt from your face). Chemical exfoliants dissolve the bond between dead skin cells. Not all skin types can do both ... for example, those with acne-prone skin may want to steer clear from some mechanicals as they can irritate your skin and those of darker skin tones who are prone to hyperpigmentation should be careful with aggressive mechanical exfoliation. Exfoliation should be done at least one to twice a week - if you do any more and notice your skin has become red, irritated or sensitive to products, you’re doing too much.
