So, long story short: I have been up and down Edinburgh asking every shop owner and bartender if they have any Bunnahabhain festival bottles from the last two years. Coincidentally while speaking to a hostess at a cocktail bar, whom I did not mention this to, she recommended I visit this bar. Lo and behold, they have a Bunnahabhain Feis Ile 2022 Abhainn Araig.

Distinctly a Bunnahabhain malt. High abv up front but opens up wonderfully with a splash of water. Pedro Ximenez heaven.

Bunnahabhain, antagelig Islays mest kronglete destilleri å komme seg fram til, er visstnok det Islay-destilleriet som har økt salget sitt mest i løpet av de siste årene, med unntak av markedsførings-Duracellkanin Ardbeg (rundt 160 % økning for Bunnas del). Denne tapningen kommer fra italienske Silver Seal, i en serie ved navn Whisky Is Art, og den ble destillert i 1980, tappet i 2014. 270 flasker.

På nesen fikk jeg vanilje, litt tobakk, kokos, ingefær, eiketre, tropisk frukt, malt, marsipan, litt kamfer og mint, sitrus og et hint av sandeltre. Smaksmessig fikk jeg malt, vanilje, litt pepper og anis. Fyldig. Avslutningen var lang, med eiketre, anis, vanilje, muskat og en anelse ananas. Med litt vann tilsatt kom det til litt nøtter på nesen, og et hint av blomster. Smaken ble mer krydderaktig, og med mer eiketre, mens avslutningen ble noe tørrere, med mer trebitterhet. Et lite hint av Earl Grey-te, kanskje. Stadig lang.

En flott, gammel Bunnahabhain; kompleks og balansert. Fyldig og ganske så søt, godt balansert mot bitterhet og friske sitrusnoter.

Karakter: 90/100

I had a couple Bunnahabhains in the mail that I ordered while I was in Edinburgh. They finally arrived! The past two years of Feis Ile bottles.

I've already reviewed the 2022, and it's still great. Strikes a nice balance between sherry and spice.

The Móine Bordeaux 2021 is a steakhouse in a bottle. Peat smoke up front gives way to oak and red wine. A good one to chew on, and an excellent contrast to the 2022. God I love Bunnahabhain.
