Can we talk about how heartstopper is like. Not good. Like pretty sure it's. Y'know. Kinda bad. Mediocre at best. To be clear I don't actually want to talk about it because i don't want all the gen z's to flay me alive for being a millennial who just doesn't get their cool gay stuff like idk I just don't like this it feels so sanitized and so bland and safe.

#look at the acceptable gays who are just like you #yeah i'm kinda famous for liking really toxic dynamics in fiction because they're fascinating narratively #but i don't NEED cannibalism or vampirism in my fucked up gay shows y'know? #sometimes i like soft early seasons willow and tara #but i've got to admit that i need more angst and conflict to be at all interested in fiction #i like opposite sides in a conflict figuring out they're not so different like cosima/delphine #ironically some of our best rep has been couched in metaphor or innuendo #because of studio constraints and networks not allowing it #a lot of the stuff i like isn't technically canon except in the eyes of the queer creator #who wasn't allowed to let them fuck #but this new trend of queer media where we're packaged so as not to weird out the straights #idk it just bothers me #it has no real conflicts that resonate #the homophobia feels slightly off like it's not the way this stuff plays out in any real way #we're making straight allies comfortable by not being wacky and camp and even problematic #we're assimilating #it has no emotional impact because it feels sugar coated #idk it's okay to like it i just don't
