Au where instead of a sadism kink, Sam has…whatever the opposite of that is. Like, instead of wanting to harm Dream he ends up wanting to pamper him instead. He’s still a huge control freak and all, and he still has that ownership thing going on, but it takes the form of “Dream as pet” rather than “Dream as monster.”
when did I become the c!Sam kink person XD
The thing is with c!Sam, I think, is that his deal isn't really sadism as much as it's like...like c!Sam doesn't feel good about torturing people. He sees this in itself as morally absolving, because his own tortured feelings about torturing people are proof that he's a good guy. At the same time, though, he enjoys it when bad people suffer. This is also proof he's a good guy, because a good guy doesn't allow bad people to prosper.
This ends up with c!Sam having a difficult line to walk. Being overtly kind to c!Dream in general is something that grates at his moral sensibilities, particularly the whole "good people deserve good things / bad people deserve bad things" thing he's got going on. In that sense, overtly positive treatment towards c!Dream without some pretty significant changes is pretty hard for him (which is a shame, honestly, because if he was just a little better positive reinforcement he probably could've been even more effective, lol.)
As it is, though, the way he is about actually hurting c!Dream is complicated as well. He has to hem and haw and justify it through a few moral and logical knots for quite a while--even though he's very solid in his conviction that c!Dream Does Not Deserve Good Things because of his ~evilness~, his own enjoyment when it came to his treatment of c!Dream is. A little more complicated, which is part of why it's such a sticking point in Daedalus. He both admits that he looked forward to Quackity's visits and tries to couch said admissions with statements that rationalize his behavior as being for a certain end. He distances himself from c!Quackity's obvious and unfettered sadism, but also cannot help but feel satisfaction at c!Dream's predicament. All of these serve as complications to his whole Deal with c!Dream.
In a scenario where c!Sam is more confident of his control over c!Dream, for whatever reason, could he be more inclined to treat him "positively"? Maybe. But I think that that's a scenario that requires,, a certain degree of set-up, considering the way c!Sam is portrayed in canon.
