TEAMMATES - C. BEDARD
Tumblr media
paring: Connor Bedard x fem! reader
word count: 3.9k
requested? yes -connor bedard falling in love with his teammate, she’s one or two years older and plays for the blackhawks and he just falls in love so hard and she does so too but more cautious
warnings: use of y/n.

As I stepped onto the ice, the chill of the arena enveloped me, sending a shiver down my spine. The familiar sound of skates cutting through the ice filled the air, mingling with the cheers and chatter of the crowd. This was home, the place where I belonged - on the rink, with my team, the Chicago Blackhawks.
Among the sea of jerseys and helmets, one figure stood out: Connor Bedard, our star player. His skill and talent were undeniable, but there was something else about him that caught my eye - a certain intensity, a fire that burned within him every time he stepped onto the ice.
I had heard the rumors, of course. Connor Bedard, the prodigy, hailed as the next great hockey phenom. But what intrigued me wasn't just his talent; it was the way he carried himself, the determination in his eyes, the way he moved with such grace and precision.
As I skated over to join the warm-up drills, I couldn't help but steal glances at him. His blonde hair peeked out from under his helmet, his blue eyes focused and unwavering. There was a magnetic pull between us, a connection that I couldn't quite explain.
"Y/N, you with us?" My teammate's voice snapped me out of my thoughts, and I forced myself to focus on the task at hand.
"Yeah, sorry, just... zoning out," I replied, trying to shake off the strange feeling that had settled in the pit of my stomach.

The ice rink was quiet, bathed in the soft glow of the overhead lights as Connor and I skated side by side, the sound of our blades cutting through the ice echoing in the empty arena. It was moments like these that I cherished the most - just the two of us, lost in our own little world.
I focused on perfecting my shots, the puck gliding effortlessly across the ice as I aimed for the top corner of the net. But no matter how hard I tried to concentrate, I couldn't shake the feeling of Connor's eyes on me, his gaze burning into my skin like a searing flame.
"Nice shot," he called out, flashing me a grin as he skated over to retrieve the puck.
"Thanks," I replied, feeling a blush creeping up my cheeks.
As he passed the puck back to me, his hand brushed against mine, sending a jolt of electricity shooting through my veins. I tried to ignore the fluttering sensation in my stomach, focusing instead on the task at hand.
But Connor had other ideas.
"Mind if I show you a trick?" he asked, skating closer until our bodies were almost touching.
"Sure," I replied, trying to sound casual despite the rapid thud of my heart.
With a mischievous glint in his eye, Connor skated backwards, effortlessly guiding the puck with his stick as he moved with fluid grace across the ice. I watched in awe as he performed a series of intricate maneuvers, each one more impressive than the last.
"See?" he said, flashing me a cocky grin as he skated back towards me.
"Yeah, that was... impressive," I replied, trying to hide the awe in my voice.
As he reached out to hand me the puck, his fingers brushed against mine once again, sending a shiver down my spine. I tried to ignore the tingling sensation that lingered in the air between us, focusing instead on the task at hand.

The arena was alive with energy as the game entered its final minutes, the score tied and the tension thick enough to cut with a knife. Every pass, every shot, every save was met with a roar of approval from the crowd, the atmosphere electric with anticipation.
As I skated onto the ice, the familiar rush of adrenaline coursing through my veins, I could feel the weight of the game resting on my shoulders. This was it - the moment I had been training for, the chance to prove myself on the biggest stage of all.
With a burst of speed, I charged towards the net, the puck glued to my stick as I dodged and weaved my way through the opposing defense. I could feel the eyes of the crowd on me, their cheers and chants urging me on as I closed in on the goal.
And then, in a split second that felt like an eternity, it happened - the puck sailed past the goalie and into the net, the sound of the crowd erupting into cheers echoing in my ears.
I had scored.
As I skated back towards my teammates, a sense of euphoria washed over me, the adrenaline still coursing through my veins as I high-fived my fellow players. But as I glanced over at Connor, a smile tugging at the corners of my lips, I knew that this goal was about more than just me - it was about us, about the bond that we shared both on and off the ice.
"Nice shot, Y/N!" Connor called out, skating over to join me with a grin on his face.
"Thanks," I replied, feeling a rush of pride at his words.
And then, without another word, he held out his hand, the puck resting on the tip of his stick as he prepared to make the perfect pass.
"Ready?" he asked, his eyes meeting mine with a look of determination.
"Ready," I replied, a smile spreading across my face as I skated into position.
With a flick of his wrist, Connor sent the puck soaring through the air, perfectly timed and perfectly placed. And as I reached out to meet it, my stick connecting with the puck in a seamless motion, I felt a surge of adrenaline rush through me once again.
And then, in a flash of movement that seemed to defy time itself, I took the shot, the puck sailing past the goalie and into the net with a satisfying thud.
We had done it.
As the crowd erupted into cheers and applause, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride wash over me. This wasn't just a goal - it was a testament to everything we had worked for, everything we had overcome together.
*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨*
The atmosphere in the arena was tense as the game against the Devils reached its peak, the score neck and neck, every play crucial to the outcome. As the puck zipped across the ice, bodies collided, sticks clashed, and the sound of the crowd intensified with every shot on goal.
Connor, as always, was at the heart of the action, his skill and determination evident in every move he made. But as the game wore on, a sense of unease settled over me, a feeling that something wasn't quite right.
And then, in a split second that seemed to freeze time itself, it happened - a sickening crunch echoed through the arena as Connor collided with an opposing player, his body crumpling to the ice in a heap.
Time seemed to stand still as I watched in horror from the bench, my heart pounding in my chest as the realization sunk in. Connor was hurt, and he was hurt badly.
Without a second thought, I leaped to my feet, my skates clattering against the hard surface of the bench as I rushed onto the ice. The crowd's cheers and chants faded into the background as I made my way towards him, my only focus on the figure lying motionless on the ice.
"Connor!" I called out, my voice echoing through the empty arena as I knelt beside him.
He lay there, his face twisted in pain, blood pooling beneath him as he clutched at his jaw. My heart ached at the sight of him, his normally vibrant blue eyes dulled with agony.
"Y/N," he mumbled, his voice barely above a whisper. "I think... I think I broke my jaw."
Tears welled up in my eyes as I reached out to touch him, my fingers trembling as they brushed against his cheek. He winced at the contact, but he didn't pull away, his gaze locked with mine in silent understanding.
"We need to get you off the ice," I said, my voice barely audible over the roar of the crowd.
With a nod, he struggled to his feet, leaning heavily on me for support as we made our way towards the bench. The crowd's cheers and chants seemed to fade into the background as we disappeared into the tunnel, leaving behind the chaos of the game.

The first period ended in a blur of chaos and confusion, the atmosphere in the locker room tense as we waited for news of Connor's condition. Every passing minute felt like an eternity, each second dragging on as we anxiously paced back and forth, our thoughts consumed by worry and fear.
And then, finally, the door swung open, and there he was - Connor, his face pale and drawn, but his eyes filled with determination.
"How are you feeling?" I asked, rushing to his side as he sank onto the nearest bench.
"Like I got hit by a freight train," he replied with a weak smile, his voice hoarse with pain.
I winced at the sight of him, his jaw swollen and bruised, his normally cheerful demeanor replaced by a grimace of agony. But despite the pain etched on his face, there was a glimmer of hope in his eyes, a determination to soldier on no matter what.
"We'll get through this," I said, reaching out to squeeze his hand in reassurance.
He nodded in agreement, his grip tight and reassuring as we sat together in the quiet of the locker room, the sound of our breathing the only thing breaking the silence.
The news of Connor's injury weighed heavily on all of us as we awaited word from the doctors. When the diagnosis came back confirming a broken jaw requiring surgery, a sense of somberness fell over the locker room. But amidst the uncertainty, there was one thing that remained clear - Connor needed support, and he needed it now.
*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨*
As the team dispersed to make arrangements for Connor's surgery and recovery, I knew that I had to do something to help. Without hesitation, I offered to have him stay with me during his recovery, knowing that he would need all the help and support he could get.
"Are you sure about this?" Connor asked, his voice filled with gratitude as we sat together in the quiet of the locker room.
"Absolutely," I replied, my heart swelling with determination. "You've always been there for me, Connor, and now it's my turn to be there for you."
With a nod of agreement, Connor accepted my offer, his eyes shining with gratitude as we made plans for his surgery and recovery. And as we left the locker room together, a sense of purpose filled the air, a determination to see Connor through this difficult time no matter what.
The day of Connor's surgery arrived with a mixture of nerves and anticipation, the air thick with tension as we made our way to the hospital. As we sat together in the waiting room, the minutes seemed to stretch on endlessly, each passing second filled with worry and fear.
But finally, the door swung open, and there he was - Connor, his face pale and drawn, but his eyes filled with determination.
"How are you feeling?" I asked, rushing to his side as he emerged from the operating room.
"Like I got hit by a truck," he replied with a weak smile, his voice muffled by the bandages wrapped around his jaw.
I winced at the sight of him, his face swollen and bruised from the surgery, but there was a glimmer of hope in his eyes, a determination to soldier on no matter what.
With gentle hands, I helped him to his feet, supporting him as we made our way out of the hospital and into the waiting car. The journey home was quiet, the silence broken only by the sound of our breathing as we navigated the familiar streets of the city.
*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨*
As we arrived at my apartment, I helped Connor inside, guiding him to the couch where he would spend the next few days recovering. And as I tucked him in with a warm blanket and a soft pillow, I knew that no matter what the future held, we would face it together, side by side, skating towards our dreams.
The days passed in a blur of doctor's appointments, medication schedules, and endless hours spent by Connor's side, tending to his every need. But as the initial shock of his injury wore off, frustration began to set in, gnawing away at Connor's resolve like a persistent ache.
"I hate this," he muttered, his voice thick with frustration as he struggled to adjust to life with a broken jaw.
"I know it's tough," I replied, my heart aching at the sight of him in pain. "But you're doing great, Connor. You're strong, and you'll get through this."
He sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat as he sank deeper into the couch. "I just feel so... useless," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.
I reached out to touch him, my fingers brushing against his cheek in a gesture of comfort. "You're not useless, Connor," I said, my voice filled with conviction. "You're brave and resilient, and you're handling this with so much strength and courage."
He looked up at me, his eyes filled with doubt and uncertainty. "But what if I never play hockey again?" he whispered, his voice trembling with fear.
My heart broke at the thought of him giving up on his dreams, his passion for the game dimming like a fading flame. But I refused to let him succumb to despair, to let his injury define him.
"You will play hockey again, Connor," I said, my voice firm and unwavering. "This is just a setback, a temporary obstacle in the road. But you'll overcome it, and when you do, you'll be stronger than ever."
For a moment, he was silent, his gaze locked with mine in silent understanding. And then, with a nod of determination, he squared his shoulders and met my gaze with renewed resolve.
"Thank you, Y/N," he said, his voice filled with gratitude. "For everything."
*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨*
The days stretched on, each one feeling longer and more monotonous than the last as Connor's frustration continued to grow. Despite my best efforts to keep his spirits up, there was a restless energy that simmered beneath the surface, a longing for the one thing that had always brought him solace - the ice.
"I can't take it anymore," Connor muttered, his voice tinged with desperation as he paced back and forth across the living room. "I need to get back on the ice."
I watched him from the couch, my heart aching at the sight of him so restless and unsettled. It had been weeks since his surgery, and the confines of my apartment were starting to feel like a prison to him.
"I know, Connor," I replied, my voice soft with sympathy. "But the doctor said you need to rest and recover."
"But I can't just sit here and do nothing," he protested, his frustration boiling over like a pot about to spill. "I need to move, to skate, to feel the rush of the ice beneath my feet."
I sighed, knowing that there was little I could do to ease his longing. But then, an idea began to form in my mind, a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness.
"Maybe... maybe we could go watch a practice," I suggested tentatively, the words spilling out before I could stop them.
Connor's eyes lit up at the suggestion, his face breaking into a wide grin at the prospect of being back at the rink, even if only as a spectator.
"Really?" he asked, his voice tinged with excitement.
I nodded, a smile spreading across my face at the sight of him so eager and hopeful. "Yes, really. We'll go watch a practice, and maybe it'll help ease some of that restlessness."
And so, with a newfound sense of purpose and determination, we made our way to the rink, the anticipation building with every step. As we stepped inside the arena, the familiar sound of skates cutting through the ice filled the air, mingling with the cheers and chatter of the crowd.
And as Connor's eyes lit up at the sight of the rink, a sense of peace washed over me, knowing that even in the darkest of times, there was still hope, still the promise of better days ahead.
*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨*
The day had finally arrived - the day Connor would step back onto the ice for the first time since his injury. As we made our way to the rink, anticipation hung in the air, a palpable energy that crackled with excitement and nerves.
"I can't believe it's finally happening," Connor said, his voice filled with awe as he gazed out at the ice.
I smiled at him, a sense of pride swelling in my chest at the sight of him so eager and determined. It had been a long and arduous journey, but finally, he was here, ready to reclaim his rightful place on the ice.
With a deep breath, Connor laced up his skates, the familiar sensation sending a rush of adrenaline coursing through his veins. He took a moment to savor the feeling, the cold bite of the ice beneath his feet, the sound of his blades cutting through the surface with each stride.
And then, with a burst of speed, he was off, gliding effortlessly across the ice with a grace and precision that seemed to defy gravity. It was as if he had never been away, as if the weeks spent off the ice had been nothing more than a distant memory.
I watched from the sidelines, my heart swelling with pride as I witnessed the sheer determination and resilience that defined Connor's spirit. Despite the challenges he had faced, he had never once given up, never once lost sight of his dreams.
As he practiced alone, honing his skills and perfecting his moves, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the sight of him so focused and determined. This was Connor at his best, his passion for the game burning brighter than ever before.
And as the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the ice, Connor finally skated over to join me at the boards, his face flushed with exertion but his eyes shining with pride.
"Thank you, Y/N," he said, his voice filled with gratitude. "For everything."
I smiled at him, a sense of warmth and contentment washing over me as I reached out to squeeze his hand in reassurance.
"Anytime, Connor," I replied, my voice filled with sincerity. "Anytime."
*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨* ≈☆≈ *¨¨*:·..·:*¨¨*
As I stepped onto the ice, the familiar chill of the rink enveloped me, sending a shiver down my spine. It was moments like these that I cherished the most - the quiet solitude of the ice, the freedom to lose myself in the rhythm of my skates.
But today was different. Today, my thoughts were consumed by one thing and one thing only - Y/N.
From the moment I first saw her, I knew there was something special about her, something that set her apart from the rest. Maybe it was the way she moved, with a grace and elegance that seemed to defy logic. Or maybe it was the sparkle in her eyes, a fire that burned bright and fierce with every glance.
Whatever it was, I found myself drawn to her like a moth to a flame, unable to resist the magnetic pull that seemed to bind us together. And as we spent more time together, practicing on the ice and sharing quiet moments off of it, I knew that what I felt for her went beyond mere attraction - it was something deeper, something more profound.
But love was a dangerous game, one that I wasn't sure I was ready to play. After all, I was a hockey player, with a career and a reputation to uphold. Falling for a teammate, especially one as talented and captivating as Y/N, was a risk I wasn't sure I was willing to take.
And yet, despite my reservations, I couldn't deny the way my heart raced every time she was near, the way my pulse quickened at the sound of her voice. With every smile, every laugh, every shared moment, I found myself falling for her more and more, like a snowflake drifting gently towards the ground.
But love was a two-way street, and I couldn't shake the feeling that Y/N was more cautious than I was, more guarded with her heart. And who could blame her? After all, she had her own dreams and ambitions, her own fears and insecurities.
But still, I couldn't help but hope that maybe, just maybe, she felt the same way I did. That maybe, in the quiet moments between practices and games, she found herself thinking of me as much as I thought of her.
The adrenaline surged through me as I stepped onto the ice for my first game back since the injury. The roar of the crowd enveloped me, a cacophony of cheers and chants that echoed in my ears like a symphony of triumph. This was it - my chance to prove that I was back, stronger and more determined than ever before.
The game was intense, a fierce battle between two rival teams vying for victory. Every pass, every shot, every save was met with a roar of approval from the crowd, the energy in the arena palpable. And as the final minutes of the third period ticked away, the score remained tied, the tension mounting with each passing second.
But then, in a split second that seemed to stretch into eternity, it happened - the puck found its way to me, and with a burst of speed, I charged towards the net, the goal looming large in my sights. With every ounce of strength and determination I had, I took the shot, the puck sailing past the goalie and into the net with a satisfying thud.
The crowd erupted into cheers and applause, the sound washing over me like a wave of euphoria. I had done it - I had scored.
As I skated back to the bench, my heart pounding with excitement, I couldn't help but feel a surge of pride and accomplishment. This was more than just a goal - it was a testament to everything I had overcome, a reminder that no matter what life threw at me, I would always find a way to rise above it.
And as I sat in the locker room after the game, surrounded by my teammates, I knew that there was something else I needed to do. Something that had been weighing heavily on my mind ever since I stepped back onto the ice.
"Y/N," I said, my voice trembling with emotion as I turned to face her. "I need to talk to you."
She looked up at me, her eyes filled with curiosity and concern. "What is it, Connor? Are you okay?"
I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what I was about to say. "I... I need to tell you something," I began, the words tumbling out in a rush. "Ever since I met you, I haven't been able to stop thinking about you. You've become more than just a teammate to me - you've become everything."
Her eyes widened in surprise, a blush creeping up her cheeks as she realized what I was trying to say. "Connor, I... I feel the same way," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of my racing heart.

March 6, 2024: Nick Seeler signs a 4-year $10.8 million contract extension with the Philadelphia Flyers. (📸)
After leaving the Chicago Blackhawks in January 2021, Nick Seeler took six months off of playing hockey. He was a poor fit in Chicago, which was looking towards a more youthful team, and after his contract was terminated, he returned to his home of Minnesota to relax and reset. In June, he returned to the show when then-Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher signed him to a one-year deal. In that first year with the Flyers, he bounced back and forth between the Flyers and the Phantoms, but earned a permanent spot on the team roster in the 2022-23 season, and when injuries plagued the roster, even moved up to the left wing of the Flyers' fourth line.
This year things have been different. A shot-blocking machine on the third D-pairing with Sean Walker (a member of the Colorado Avalanche as of earlier today), he's become an essential part of the team, and not just on the ice. His teammates on the Flyers have been complimenting his work ethic for years now, and it's widely known that he's a hugely important presence in the locker room.
"He sets an example with his work ethic, as one of the most serious teammates Cam York’s ever known. He willingly sacrifices his body and sticks up for teammates. But he’s a “teddy bear” off the ice, says York and a teacher to rookies and veterans alike." (x)
"One that comes to mind is Nick Seeler. He is absolutely beloved in the locker room, he is a team-first guy, and he’s playing the best year of his entire career. He’s playing over four minutes per game than what he had been prior in his career, he’s a +14, and he stands up for his teammates. I think if they were to move him at the deadline, and if they were still in contention, I think that would bother some players." (x)
Most importantly, Seeler loves living and playing in Philadelphia. He's openly said for years that the team feels like home and that he wants to play for them, even if it means waiting longer for the playoffs or sticking with a rebuilding team instead of going somewhere with real, current Cup aspirations. You have to wonder if the very reasonable $2.7 mil annual salary is in part due to his willingness to be flexible in order to stay here.
During the 2nd period of Flyers-Blues game on March 4th, Seeler took a shot to the ankle and couldn't stand on his skates; play moved to the Blues' side of the ice as he struggled to get up from his hands and knees. When the Flyers on the ice, now shorthanded in the offensive zone allowed the play to move back down to the defensive zone, Seeler lay flat in front of goaltender Samuel Ersson to continue to try and block pucks from getting to the net.
There's a reason we wanted to keep him. And clearly, he's willing to do a lot for it. We are so excited to have you for four more years, Nick, and can't wait to cheer you on for all of them.

hello party people! the stanley cup playoffs start right now, so in an attempt to tempt y’all to watch, i have compiled a list of playoff moments that altered my brain chemistry (as someone who has watched the playoffs every year since 2010)! even if you don’t want to watch hockey, the sport is pretty ridiculous so here is just a small sample of the extent of the craziness!
washington capitals vs. pittsburgh penguins 2009 (round 2 game 2): hockey’s messi and ronaldo, sidney crosby and alex ovechkin put on a show for the washington crowd as they each score hattys in the same game. the capitals would go on to win the game, but the penguins would win the series (and later the cup), but this game has some of the best highlights as the two best players in hockey at their peaks showed off their skills for sexy, sexy hockey!
chicago blackhawks vs. philadelphia flyers 2010 (round 4 game 6): in overtime of game 6 of the stanley cup finals, a chicago player scored the game winner to win the hawks the cup. the weird part? nobody saw it go in except the player and his teammates. the crowd, flyers, and broadcasters didn’t see it go in. known as the “phantom goal” this goal won the hawks their first cup in almost 50 years.
vancouver canucks vs. chicago blackhawks 2011 (round 1 game 7): this is the game that made me fall in love with hockey. little 7-year-old me was glued to my television screen all night watching this game. the blackhawks and canucks had matched up in the playoffs for three years in a row, and the blackhawks (at the time the reigning cup champions) had beat the canucks every time. this series had gone the full 7 games, with the canucks winning the first 3 and the blackhawks coming from behind to win the next 3. earlier in game 7, hero alex burrows had opened the scoring then missed a penalty shot. with the game tied at 1, just over 5 minutes into overtime, burrows gets the puck and scores, defeating the blackhawks to send the canucks to the next round. they would go on to lose the cup in the final, but this was the golden generation of canucks games and the vibe in vancouver? unmatched. it gave birth to two of the most iconic radio calls: “they slayed the dragon” by john shorthouse, and “its a wonderful day for an exorcism” from jim hughston. this defined my childhood fr
boston bruins vs. toronto maple leafs 2013 (round 1 game 7): mere weeks after the tragedy at the boston marathon, the bruins were down 4-1 with just over 14 minutes to play in the 3rd period. they were down 4-2 with 9 minutes left. with two goals in 30 seconds, with less than 90 seconds remaining, the bruins tied the game and patrice bergeron won the game for the bruins in overtime. the maple leafs, having blown a 3 goal lead, ended their season. as of right now, they have not won a round of the playoffs since 2004.
tampa bay lightning vs. boston bruins 2018 (round 2 game 4): the playoffs can get quite scrappy! in order to get an advantage over his opponent after a little scrum, noted league rat brad marchand licked a man. yes fully licked. previously in the playoffs he had kissed and licked another man, and this caused the league to outlaw licking. the bruins would go on to lose the series, even though marchand continued his ridiculous antics
vegas golden knights vs. vancouver canucks 2020 (round 2 games 5-7): in 2020, the playoffs were played in a bubble at one arena with no spectators. after game 4, that the knights won, it was discovered that the canucks goalie jacob markstrom had an injury. with the knights leading the series 3-1, the canucks needed to win 3 games in a row to move on to the next round. enter thatcher demko, a rookie goalie who had never played a playoff game before. over games 5, 6 and 7, demko made 123 saves, including a 48 save shutout in game 6, to keep the canucks in until game 7. he stood on his head, he was incredible, and he went over 100 minutes without the knights scoring a goal. unfortunately, with a knights shutout in game 7, the canucks wouldn’t move on, but “bubble demko” would live in infamy as thatcher demko’s intro to playoff hockey. hes my favourite goalie
pittsburgh penguins vs. new york rangers 2022 (round 1 game 1): as both teams were ready to fight it out in the playoffs, this game was tied at the end of three periods. in the playoffs, overtime lasts 20 minutes with 15 minute breaks between them. in the 3rd period of overtime, and the 6th period of hockey evgeni malkin scored for the penguins after over 90 minutes of hockey. it was midnight at madison square garden. the rangers goalie, igor shesterkin, made 79 saves in the loss, and the penguins goalie louis domingue, who came on in the second overtime to replace an injured casey desmith, went viral for reports that he ate spicy pork and broccoli between periods to keep up his energy. this is one of the longest games in nhl history, and the rangers would go on to win the series in 7 games.
edmonton oilers vs. calgary flames 2022 (round 2 game 1): the battle of alberta is one of the classic rivalries of the nhl, and the first game of last year’s round 2 delivered. the goalies seemed to be unable to keep the puck out of the net, and flames and oilers fans both watched as the two teams combined for 15 goals, with the flames winning 9-6. the oilers would go on to win the series, but the sloppy, goal-heavy hockey has stuck in my mind ever since last may
these are some of my highlights! i hope you all enjoy the playoffs (because i know i will), and all the beard-growing and towel-twirling that comes along with them. happy stanley cup season everyone!

Burzek + the Hockey AU
The first time Adam Ruzek put on skates and stepped onto ice was when he was eight years old, and he never wanted to leave it. He wanted to keep skating, and learn to play hockey as well as his father did, and maybe go all the way to the NHL. That was the first dream he ever had, to play for the Blackhawks one day, even if he wasn’t quite tall enough to use a full size stick yet.
Enthusiasm alone could only get him so far, but that’s what he had a coach and a team for. As soon as he was old enough, his dad signed him up for a club team at the local rink. It wasn’t much, and the team didn’t win many of their games, but he had fun, and he liked coach Olinsky, and he was getting better. All the practice and games, even if they didn’t always end the way they wanted them to, only helped Adam hone his skills.
So, he played through all of middle and high school, learning everything that his coaches had to teach him. When he graduated, college wasn’t exactly his top priority. He wanted to keep playing the game, keep getting better at it, maybe put his name in for the draft. He didn’t quite get that far with it.
He still trained, still spent three hours at the rink, four days a week, running drills and practice shots against the same coach he’d had since he was ten. The encouragement helped, between picking up shifts at one of the food stands at the arena for cash, and he kept all the enthusiasm he’d had for a decade of his life. Eventually, it actually got him somewhere.
Specifically, it got him into a grey and red jersey for the Chicago Mice.
The team had a record that was actually worse than any of the ones from his teen years. They had never won a single trophy. Their playing had been getting better, but they were still far from even reaching for a title. But it was a place to start.
Kimberly had her entire life turned upside down when she was barely a teenager. Her last name was changed, she was moved to the other side of the city to live in what was basically a mansion, she had her entire wardrobe thrown out and replaced with things that would be perfect for the cameras that would follow her around. It had all seemed so silly, living with the Gerwitzes, acting as though they were family when she only shared blood with two of them.
She was a bandage, something to cover the blemish that Gregory III’s affairs brought upon his reputation. She was there to look pretty at events, with her hair done perfectly and her dress some brand new design with a name attached. She was there to get good grades and be the polite little sister to a brother she had to real introduction to before he was driving her to and from school every day. She was there to go to dance lessons that she didn’t want and apply to college programs she wanted even less.
When her father bought a hockey team - just another thing for Greg to inherit instead of her, she was sure - she made a decision. if this family, the one that was supposedly hers, was going to upend her life to pull her into theirs, then she was going to make sure she was an active part, not just an accessory.
She went to watch the Mice play whenever she could get a ride to the arena, even if it meant taking the bus. She cheered louder than anyone on the rare occasions they scored. She made sure the cameras saw her being as loud and as enthusiastic as Thelma Gerwitz made sure she knew she shouldn’t be. She was supporting her father’s latest business endeavor, after all, when her brother would rather be fooling around with boys under the bleachers and lying about how much time he spent fencing.
After high school, she didn’t waste any time. Kim applied to the same business program that Greg had been studying for two years, and made it in, and that was just the start of her master plan. After graduating in less than three years, only missing getting to receive a degree at the same time as her brother buy a few months, things were moving along even faster than she intended them to. But there was a job available at the family business - not something menial like secretarial work, of course, that wasn’t exactly becoming for a Gerwitz, but she wasn’t exactly running things, either.
She ran the schedule - or a version of it. She made the calls that got them better seats on flights, and nicer rooms in hotels at a discount, and that was her routine for every business conference or executive visit. She was in charge of flights and hotels and restaurant reservations, occasionally making extra calls to a few driving companies in the city to ensure there were rides for their visitors everywhere and they didn’t have to arrange them themselves. And she was good at it. But it left her with quite a bit of free time.
All that meant was that she could go back to her old routine. There were still Mice games to catch now that she wasn’t too busy with studying anymore, and she could actually go to them without worrying if she’d have a ride home afterwards.
And, if the first game she caught after settling into her new job happened to be the first time she’d ever seen them actually win, with the winning goal scored by a rookie she’d never seen play before, maybe she could consider that a sign of good things to come.

Analyzing Lukas Reichel's difficult Blackhawks season, what he improved and what he didn't (from the Chicago Sun-Times)
If Blackhawks forward Lukas Reichel hadn’t learned this season how to move on from blunders and avoid dwelling on the past, he easily could’ve gotten buried under the weight of his many miscues.
He did learn, though, and that represents one positive coming out of this severely disappointing season: his mindset has gotten healthier.
“In this league, it’s tough to score or have chances,” Reichel said. “Even little plays, it’s not going to be perfect. It’s about how you react to mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes — even [Connor] McDavid and [Sidney] Crosby — but their reaction after that is important. I wasn’t good at it early in the season, but I feel like now I’m way better.”
His performance in the Hawks’ 5-1 loss last Friday against the Predators offers a good example. He struggled during the first half of the game, just like the rest of the team, making some dumb decisions with the puck.
Earlier this season, he would’ve spent the rest of the night figuratively beating himself up for that, letting his bad half-game extend into a bad full game. On Friday, however, he flushed it and played a much better second half.
Lukas Reichel has improved in some slight ways since returning to the NHL late this season.
The Hawks would obviously prefer for Reichel to play well for the entirety of games, not just half of them. That’s what they drafted and developed him to do; that’s what his natural talents should allow him to do.
After that Predators game, coach Luke Richardson talked to Reichel about the importance of bringing maximum effort from the opening puck drop rather than waiting to gauge the pace of the game before settling in.
“I want him to be a little more determined from the beginning and [to see] him dictate how that shift is going to go,” Richardson said. “It might not lead to a breakaway right off the hop, but then the next shift, do it again. Then the next shift, do it again — instead of waiting for a break to happen and then [thinking], ‘I’m going to get it going.’ But once things do happen, he gets really involved in the game. I’ve liked some of his aggression on the walls and puck battles and [him] shooting the puck a little bit more.”
There are some marginal indications of improvement in Reichel’s play since he returned to the NHL on March 16. His stat line of five points in 14 games since then is hardly impressive, but his point-per-minute rate has more than doubled compared to before his Rockford stint, when he tallied 10 points in 50 games.
He’s also shooting slightly more frequently (9.4 vs. 8.8 shot attempts per 60 minutes), and prior to Tuesday, he had recorded multiple individual scoring chances in five consecutive games for the first time all season.
The Hawks have only been outscored 8-5 during his five-on-five ice time this stint. The previous stint, it was 34-11. Their scoring-chance ratio during his ice time has nonetheless dipped a bit from 37.3% to 36.7%.
Reichel plans to spend the bulk of his offseason training at home in Germany, where he quipped he’ll finally get some “good food.” He could participate in the AHL playoffs before then. By the time he returns for training camp in September, he’ll have a new contract.
Gaining strength and weight won’t be as massive a priority for him this summer as it has been the last few summers. Conversely, Richardson wants Reichel to focus on treating every workout, skate and scrimmage like the Stanley Cup Final, forming a habit of always giving 100% effort no matter the situation.
“That’s going to be huge for him to . . . implement that into his mindset so [he feels like], ‘That’s how I just play,’ ” Richardson said. “If he’s out playing three-on-three summer hockey in Europe, that’s how he’s playing. Then it becomes repetition, so every time you go out, that’s how you play.”

Vegas gets the win over the Chicago Blackhawks in a very evenly paced game. I didn’t mind that there was a slow start to this game (all that matters is keeping everyone healthy going into the playoffs).
Thompson was fantastic in net and I definitely want him to be the playoff starter. He looks very sure in his saves and he has done well lately.
Turnovers at times were a bit worrisome and thank goodness that these did not lead to trouble or a blown lead.
The first Golden Knights goal was scored by Mcnabb with assist from Hertl and Dorofeyev.
The second Golden Knights goal was scored by Amadio with a great shot glove side on Mrazek.
The third Golden Knights goal was an empty net goal from Roy with assists from Howden and Eichel.
I am very pleased with the results of this game, I would love to see a high scoring game every time but I think Vegas showed that they are still trying to win games despite having clinched a playoff spot.
Final score 3-1! (So close to a shutout would have loved to see one for Thompson this close to the end of the season💛).
With this win we enter the third spot in the Pacific, passing the Kings, and if we stay here we will face the Oilers in the first round.
The next game is on Thursday against the Ducks and it is the final game of the regular season before the playoffs begin.

The Secret To Becoming A G.O.A.T.
It is Saturday morning and I still can not find any information on the injury status of Chicago Blackhawks young star Connor Bedard after he was forced to leave the game in the 1st period.
Last night Bedard, while skating through a forest of New Jersey Devils players, momentarily lost control of the puck. While reaching with his stick, his eyes fell to the ice in search of the puck. Thus Bedard never saw the fast approaching Brendan Smith, who leveled him with a shoulder to the jaw.
I've seen the replay dozens of times now. It was a clean and legal hit.
The hype surrounding Bedard before he even laced up his NHL skates for the first time is legit. This kid can play! At only 18 years old Bedard is challenging the NHL's best.
Bedard's wrist shot is already one of the best in the league. Couple that with his vision and skill and the kid from North Vancouver is already the best player on Chicago's roster.
Last night though showed one of the ways that "Generational Talents" sometimes never meet those lofty expectations. Injury!
Eric Lindros was selected 1st overall in 1991 by the Quebec Nordiques. After refusing to play for Quebec, Lindros was traded to Philadelphia. Lindros was considered to be the next great star in the NHL. A generational talent. While there were many great moments and seasons where Lindros looked the part. He never did achieve what many thought he'd eventually become. A legend.
Multiple concussions and other various injuries limited Lindros' playing time. Thus leaving many wondering: what could have been?
Gordie Howe, Mario Lemieux, and of course Wayne Gretzky. These are the names you think of when you think: hockey legends.
Soccer? Pele, Diego Maradona, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Basketball? Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, LeBron James.
Choose any sport. List the greatest players ever to have played and they all have one thing in common. Health and luck. Their health didn't keep them from achieving greatness and reaching legendary status.
Sure, Michael Jordan had a season where he missed most of the year with a broken foot. But, he did come back at the end of that season to lead the Bulls into the playoffs and a memorable series against the Celtics. MJ put up a record 63 points in a loss at the Boston Garden. A record that still stands today.
Jordan suffered no further major injuries throughout the rest of his career. Winning 6 NBA championships and thus becoming a legend and G.O.A.T. of the sport.
In the 1992/93 season Mario Lemieux was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma.  Lemieux was gone for just two months to receive aggressive radiation treatments. Despite missing two month and playing in only 60 of a possible 82 games, Lemieux still lead the league in scoring!
Over 17 seasons in the NHL, all with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lemieux suffered through numerous ailments included Hodgkin's lymphoma, chronic tendinitis of the hip-flexor, and spinal disc herniation! Still, he became a legend and a G.O.A.T. of the sport, winning two Stanley cups.
Injuries can derail a once promising career. Let us hope that Bedard gets the opportunity to pursue NHL greatness and isn't held back by misfortunate injuries.
The commentators from the broadcast I was watching last night suggested concussion protocol as the reason for Connor Bedard being ruled out for the rest of the game. The first thing I thought was that he loss some teeth. Now I wonder if he got his jaw broken.
I was certainly bummed like so many others that sat down to watch the Connor Bedard vs fellow NHL rising star Jack Hughes, match-up. A match-up that ended so quickly do to an injury. Hughes also left the game before the final siren with a non-contact injury.
Here's hoping for a fast return to full health for both and the chance to watch the pursuit of greatness. For this is what we crave. Not the feeling of what could have been.

Thankful For Us
Chapter 1
Chapters: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
Note: Chapter 1 takes place while Brandon is still in Chicago before the trade deadline in 2022.
Summary: Sydnee is a lifelong Blackhawks fan, but she struggles with her inner demons, until she catches the eye of Brandon Hagel. Will he be enough to pull her from her slump she’s in?
TW: Being hard on herself, mental health
Word Count: 2673
Dear diary,
I thought today was going to be different, it felt different at the start but as the day went on it was back to the normal everyday sadness. Everyday is the same no matter how hard I try, I just feel like I can't escape from myself. I just need someone to pull me from this darkness that is in my head but no one is there. Maybe tonight at the Blackhawks game will be a good enough distraction from myself, from my head. Hey, maybe I could even meet someone, but that is literally never my luck. All the guys go for my sister, but who would blame them, she is a beautiful woman, she has the world biggest amount of confidence. Oh if only I had a fraction of that. Anyways, we will see how this goes. Probably should get ready. I’ll be writing again soon.
I sigh to myself and put my book down, looking at my hockey jersey, nervous about tonight. Big crowds make my anxiety go through the roof.
I walk to my sister Jessica’s room “Hey Jess, what should I do with my hair tonight?” I ask as I lean against her bedroom doorway.
“I think you should curl it, it complements your face well, also do light makeup, more of a natural look.” She looks over and smiles softly, she knows I struggle with my body image.
God she really is the perfect person, she also is the only one who believes in me and helps me get through the darker parts of my days.No wonder all the guys fall for her the second that they lay eyes on her.
Walking back to my bathroom, I start getting ready, by the end of it I grab my Brandon Hagel jersey out of my closet and throw it on, Hagel being my favorite hockey player and honestly dream man, plus he is a hell of a player. He can literally do it all.
Jess comes into my bedroom and I didn’t realize that she was in there until she snaps her fingers in front of my face, I was completely lost in thought about Brandon. Oops. Sorry not.
“Hey! Love struck Hagel lover! Let’s get going, you dork.” She laughs.
“Uh, right sorry, lost in thought.” I blush lightly.
“Yeah, thinking about your boyfriend Brandon,” she says with a smirk on her face.
“Oh shut up, he isn’t my boyfriend, one can only dream right?” I say as I get my shoes on. I love that girl to death but she is such a brat somedays, today being one of them.
“Who’s driving, me or you?” I ask, I never know who is going to end up driving.
“Doesn’t matter to me, I usually drive so it is your turn,” she picks up my keys off my dresser and hands them to me.
I take them from her, “alright, let’s get going then, I want to be able to find our seats easily,”
Somehow we were able to get glass seats at the United Center, how? Not a gosh darn clue but I’m not going to complain, it will be the closest I’ll ever get to the players.
We get there after fighting Chicago traffic, which by the way I absolutely hate with a burning passion. We quickly find our seats and sit down, watching the Hawks come on the ice. While we were sitting and watching the warmups, I couldn’t help but have my eyes glued to Brandon, god he is such a beautiful human… Good lord Sydnee, get your head on straight. I’m completely lost in thought again when I hear a loud *bang* against the glass in front of me. I jump in my seat and look up to see Brandon standing there smirking at me as he shot the puck into the glass. I turn a deep red and Jess is about to fall out of her seat laughing.
“You’re such an asshole.” I mutter to her.
“It’s not my fault you were daydreaming about your boyfriend!” she says in between fits of laughter.
“First off, fuck off, second off, fuck off.”
“Well whatever you’re doing keep doing it because it has his attention,” she looks over at me and then to Brandon who’s back is literally right in front of my face since we are right on the glass.
“I guess you’re right.”
Brandon finally skates off and skates over to the bench to do the rest of his warm up. Before they skate off from warm ups I see Brandon skating over to us with a puck in his hand and a big smile on his face. He taps the glass in front of me to get my attention, tosses the puck over and then skates off.
“Ohhh! What’s that?” Jess asks.
“Uh, a puck with his phone number on it,” I blush as I look at it again.
“Wait, you just got his phone number?!”
“That’s what it looks like doesn’t it?” I sit back down after grabbing the puck from him, sitting there and just look at it
*Holy shit I just got Brandon Hagel’s phone number. What the hell just happened.* I say to myself. Maybe having my sister drag me to this game wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
After the game is over, the Hawks ended up beating the St. Louis Blues 5-2. Any time the Blackhawks beat the Blues is a good way to end the night.
We are on our way home when Jess looks over at me, “so, are you going to talk to him?”
“Uh, I don’t know, I’m way too nervous to text him. I’m nervous just thinking about it.” I blush just thinking about actually being able to talk to him.
“Well clearly he wants you to text him otherwise he wouldn’t have given you his number, fucking send it when we get home Syd. Of all the girls that were there tonight, you were the one that got his attention, don’t be scared.”
“Okay seriously, how do you alway know exactly what to say and when to say it?” I ask as I look over at her.
“I’m the older sister, I just know these things.”
“Alright, alright I’ll text when we get home.”
We finally get home and I go sit on the couch, looking at my phone and Jess looks at me, “Sydnee , I swear if you don’t text him, I’m going to take your phone and do it for you.”
I grab my phone quickly, “I’m going to do it, I’m going to text him, I’m just trying to figure out the right thing to say, he is Brandon Hagel after all and I am, well I am me.”
She gives me a blank look, “Sydnee, I swear to you, you are beautiful, now shut up and text the man.”
I put his name and number in my phone and start typing out a message;
Hey there Brandon, this is Sydnee from the hockey game, the one you threw the puck to? Yeah this is her! :)
I take a deep breath and hit the send button, looking up at my sister as I do so. “It’s sent.”
“Wait, you’re joking, you did it?” She gets excited, “I honestly didn’t think you would go through with it.”
“I… wasn’t to confident in myself honestly.”
I look at my phone one last time before tossing it on the couch and go into then kitchen to get something to eat since I didn’t eat at the game.
“What if… what if he doesn’t answer?”
“Syd, shut up, he will, and if he doesn’t then that is on him, that is his fault and that is his loss,” she yawns mid sentence, “let me know in the morning if he answers, I’m going to go to bed.”
I nod and quietly make myself something to eat, shockingly I made myself eat dinner, which hardly ever happens. Most of the time I maybe eat once a day. News flash everyone, I have depression and a eating disorder. After cleaning up my dinner mess, I go back to the living room and grab my phone and my heart is racing, my hands start shaking as I flip my phone over and turn the screen on.
BRANDON. HAGEL. JUST. ANSWERD. MY. TEXT.
Brandon- Hey Sydnee! Nice to finally catch your name. Beautiful name for a beautiful face. :)
I quickly walk up to my room and lay on my bed, trying not to completely freak out and wake up jess. My phone goes again and it is another message from him
Brandon- Also, sorry it took so long to answer, Usually things are pretty crazy around here after a game, especially when we get a big win like that!
I grab my phone quickly and answer him.
Sydnee- Oh, no worries! I figured you were busy, with it being game day and everything. It’s no problem at all. I was pretty nervous to text you if I was being honest…
Brandon- Nervous? Why would you be nervous? I’m just a hockey player
Sydnee- Yeah a hockey player for the team that I grew up cheering for, also you’re kinda my favorite player so.. Yeah I was nervous.
Brandon- Favorite huh? So that’s why you were wearing that beautiful red Hagel jersey tonight?
Sydnee- Oh my gosh you noticed that?
Brandon- Well it’s hard to miss such a beautiful girl like you, and then you are wearing my jersey? Yeah, I noticed :)
Sydnee- Wow… good thing you can’t see my face right now because I’m literally as red as that jersey right now.
Brandon- Awe! That is too cute!
Sydnee- Oh my good heavens stop it!
Brandon- I mean I could but do you really want me too?
Sydnee- ….No…
Brandon- Mhm, I didn’t think so ;)
Sydnee- Oh you’re such a flirt.
Brandon- Well, would you want to go to breakfast tomorrow morning with this flirt??
I drop my phone on my lap, shocked to answer right away, Brandon Hagel, THE BRANDON HAGEL just asked if I, out of all people in the world, would want to go to breakfast in the morning. What is actually happening right now? I pick up my phone again to answer him.
Sydnee- Well that depends, does Hagel like bagels?
Brandon- Well now look who is being the flirt
Sydnee- What? So you can do it and I can’t?
Brandon- Woah woah now I never said that! Lol
Sydnee- You’re such a brat.
Brandon- Ouch, now that one hurt
I roll my eyes and sit there, not exactly sure what to say next, but my phone starts going off again, it's Brandon wanting to facetime so I quickly answer it.
“Hello?” I answer, a little confused since we were just texting.
“Hey! I figured it would just be easier to call you!” He says cheerfully, god his voice is perfect.
“Oh it’s fine, just didn’t think you’d call tonight since it is late and you had a game on top of it.” I say softly, smiling to myself and a little shocked that I am talking to him.
He chuckles and it makes my heart skip a beat, “I can let you go to sleep if you want! There is no game tomorrow so I usually stay up a little bit later when we don’t have a game the next day.”
“No no it’s fine! I’m usually up late anyways, just have to be quiet since my sister is asleep,” I say as I stand up.
“Oh, okay. Wait, where are you going?”
“Going to go outside so I don’t wake her up, the last thing I want to hear is how she didn’t sleep well, she's a grump when she doesn’t get enough sleep,” I laugh.
He laughs a little, “but it’s chilly outside.”
“And if I get cold I will go inside, but right now I want to talk to you,” I say as I look at the camera and smile at him. He smiles brightly at his phone and I can’t help but let my smile grow at his.
“So, about breakfast tomorrow, when and where are you thinking?” I ask him.
“Um you tell me, I have an idea but I want you to tell me what sounds good,” He smiles at me again, that freaking smile could light up a whole room.
“I really don’t mind, you pick! I’m pretty easy going, so surprise me.”
“How does IHOP at around 8:30 sound?”
“Sure! Sounds like a plan to me!” I yawn but try to hide it from him so he doesn’t see me getting tired.
“Are you tired? You look like you are,” he looks at the camera quickly.
“What? I’m not tired.”
“Yes you are, you just yawned! I saw it!”
“No I did not.”
“Uh yes you did.”
“Oh Bagel Hagel, you’re seeing things.”
“Am not, I watched you yawn and you tried to hide it.”
“Geet your eyes checked Brandon, No I didn’t!”
He looks at the phone and tries to give me a serious look but ends up laughing.
“Okay yes I did, in my defense it’s like 2:30 in the morning sooo,” I laugh along with him. “But I don’t mind, I like talking to you.”
He smiles brightly, “I like talking to you too, I’m glad you came to the game tonight.”
“Yeah, I’m glad Jessica decided to drag me to the game, because honestly I wasn’t sure if I would go.”
“Why wouldn’t you go?”
“Because.. I’m socially awkward, have major anxiety, and bad depression,” I say softly.
“Awe sweetheart, I’m so sorry,” his smile fades from his face as he changes from happy to concerned.
“Don’t be sorry, it’s not your fault, it’s okay really. I’ve dealt with this for a long time now.”
“My heart… If I was with you right now I’d wrap you in my arms and never let you go.”
“Oh my gosh stop it right now,” I blush at his words.
“Well I would, mental health is no joke, so the fact that you went to the game is a huge win for you, and I’m so proud of you.”
“Oh my gosh Brandon,” I wiped a tear away, “no one has told me that before.”
He gives me a soft smile, “do me a favor okay? Go inside and get warm, I know you have to be cold and I want you to get some rest tonight.”
“I’ll go inside, but I want to stay on the phone with you, will you stay on the phone with me until I fall asleep?”
“Of course I will,” he smiles at me again.
I get up and walk back inside, I really was getting cold, after all it is March in Chicago and some nights it’s still cold. But it was totally worth it being able to get to know Brandon, the true Brandon, not the one that people see on the ice.
“Alright, I’m going to leave you in my room while I get ready for bed.”
“Okay, I’ll be here!”
I chuckle and set my phone down in my room, then walk to the bathroom, get ready for bed, and then come back into my bedroom, grabbing my phone again.
“Okay I’m back!” I say as i get curled up into my blanket.
“Mm you look comfy,” he says softly.
“That’s cause I am,” at this point only my head is poking out from under the blanket, I giggle mostly to myself as I am finally getting warm.
“Getting warm?”
I only nod, starting to fall asleep.
“If you’re tired go to sleep,”he says calmly, his voice making me relax even more than I already am.
“Mmm would be better if you were here.”
“Well tomorrow after breakfast we can go — and you’re asleep,”he says softly, trying not to wake me up, “goodnight beautiful,” he says before hanging up the phone.

Hiatus return?
Disappeared for a long-while from the Tumblr hockey world. I'm debating if I should return to doing one-shots.
Do people still want them? Who's worth making one-shots of?
I feel like I'm behind in the times with the hotties from like 2015-16! (College then adulting has really pulled me away from my roots, even though I've been getting back into hockey this past season.)

Okay updates on my hockey ~descent~
I've been reading a bit of bennguin and that was pretty good, I've been looking at some vids and I swear when Tyler got into a fight after someone took a cheap shot at Jamie 😭 like why do I care so much about that?? Anyway I have also just finished reading closed fracture by lightgetsin and it was so lovely <3 so looking for some more recs for sidgeno if you have them! (also why are there (((( all over the place sometimes? I've seen a few in fics and in tweets?) I do really like the Penguins logo and jerseys so maybe I'll follow them closer when things get moving a bit more, its the off season now right? Some other ships I'm a fan of is sterek from teen wolf, Sirius/Remus from hp, Macdennis from iasip, steve/bucky - just pretty basic ones lel 😬
oooooh i'm so excited to answer this okay okay. thank you for the update i love this!
tyler seguin is everyone's favorite slutty bisexual. go bananas in his tag (just #tyler seguin or #seguin) on tumblr and you'll find some great shit. that ship doesn't get as much attention anymore bc benn isn't fandom's favorite. i don't know enough about the stars to know all the reasons, but he did a very dirty and unneccessary hit on the vegas golden knights captain in the playoffs this year and that was enough to make me not like him. i can rec some stars blogs if you want - they are a great team with a solid fandom presence and a lot of young amazing players. and they have seggy :)
um, if you love boys being overprotective on the ice, i can definitely give you some pens moments but ALSO you should look into tknp (travis konecny/nolan patrick). i think i have a #protective tk tag on here you can browse bc the boy goes batshit insane anytime someone touches his boy. one of the big reasons a lot of us fell for that ship. you don't have to be a flyers fan to love them; tk is a fandom darling bc he's so tiny and fighty and wonderful.
also, any decent player is very protective of their goalie, so if you love that dynamic, you might enjoy some defenseman/goalie pairings or there's just some fun clips and gifs out there. i'll try to reblog some stuff for you. give my poor followers a break from the rwrb posting and tzp thirst 😂
DON'T GET ME STARTED ON SIDGENO OH GOD. okay i'll reblog a few posts for them because the things they say about each other are just. alright. you're in love. we get it. okay.
King and Lionheart is the fic that made me fall for sidgeno. There is an excellent podfic available as well.
I could give you a billion sidgeno recs and writers and blogs to follow. What kind of fic do you like? Fluff? Whump? PWP? Kink? ABO? Monsterfuckery? Sidgeno is the most popular hockey rpf ship at least by numbers on ao3; we got it all, baby! I read a lot of angst and porn, so I don't want to throw a bunch of recs at you without knowing what you like :)
((( and )))))))) are russian smileys... so you're probably reading Geno texting. So instead of texting (or tweeting - you can see these in some of his old tweets): i'll be there soon :) he would text i'll be there soon )))
we ARE in the offseason but hockey comes back (relatively) soon. preseason games (exhibition games that don't count towards playoff standings) start at the end of september and the season kicks off in October. The Penguins season opener is vs the Chicago Blackhawks which should be a VERY fun game to watch, bc Chicago drafted Connor Bedard this year, one of the best hockey prospects since Sid himself. Bedard is insanely talented and we are all very eager to see how he does in the NHL. Sid was Bedard's favorite player growing up (he is so many players' favorite player growing up) and they've met and they are both very sweet boys and anyway it will be an interesting game.
Stucky was my first ship since really diving into fandom and I spent a ton of time in Teen Wolf fandom! There's a ton of teen wolf on my ao3, mostly sterek, but i mostly write hockey these days.
feel free to keep sending me questions! there's a lot to learn when you first dive into hockey but i love the sport and love this fandom!!

in TONIGHT'S GAME, Samuel Ersson had:
21 saves
1 GA
.954 SV%
For the second game in a row, Samuel Ersson faced off against another rookie goaltender, and this time it was a fellow Swede: Arvid Söderblom in net for the Chicago Blackhawks. Unlike the Stadium Series game against rookie Nico Daws, Ersson came out on top tonight and kept the Flyers afloat with 21 saves, including some enormous saves on fellow Calder contender Connor Bedard. On the other end, Söderblom also made some big stops on the Flyers, saving 30 out of 33 shots, but ultimately the shot-blocking machine of the Flyers defense kept Ersson from having to face the kind of offense that Söderblom was subject to.
On commentary during intermissions, Henrik Lundqvist had some high praise for Ersson, who previously cited Lundqvist as one of his goaltender inspirations.
"I've seen a bunch of clips of this guy playing now... and he's moving really well – his edgework is so good; you see how low he stands here?... Some goalies put a lot of weight on their feet, below their feet, but he's more of an inside guy and that allows him to push side to side so quickly, and in control."
PAST FIVE STARTS:
3-1-1
.904 SV%
2.8 GAA
SEASON:
16-10-4
.900 SV%
2.58 GAA

NEXT GAME: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2024 FLYERS V RANGERS
