Beach House Interior Design ideas

Beautifully designed by the host of HGTV Dream Home 2018, Marnie Oursler of Marnie Custom Homes, this beach house features plenty of coastal interior design ideas.

The 5 bedroom, 5.5 bath beach home is located just blocks from the ocean in Bethany Beach, DE with a sophisticated beach vibe. A calm, neutral palette reminiscent of refreshing salt air mixes with a variety of textures, wood tones, and rough stone, making this the perfect summer getaway.

This coastal home features many unique design elements by Marnie Oursler, including custom built-ins and molding throughout, reclaimed wood accents, hanging beds, exposed beams and French doors leading to a private balcony.

The custom designed kitchen is truly the heart of this home boasting white maple cabinetry, gorgeous white quartzite countertops and adding a touch of glam with a white pearl mosaic backsplash. White Oak floors throughout offer a feeling of casual beach elegance.

Outside the home, the entrance welcomes guests with a front porch and an extra wide blue custom front door, a signature of Marnie Custom Homes. Fogia launches furniture collection that pays homage to the 1970s

Rich colours, curved shapes and heavy fabrics all feature in the latest collection from Swedish furniture brand Fogia, which is launching at Stockholm Design Week.

A curved armchair by Luca Nichetto, a set of brown-hued ceramic dishes by Note Design Studio and a tan-leather seat by Stefan Borselius are among the 14 products in Fogia's 2018 collection, which combines Scandinavian minimalism with 1970s forms and colours.

Other highlights include a set of geometric upholstered poufs, a side table and shelving unit with matching circular details, and a series of patterned rugs.

"We always strive to make furniture with international elegance," said company CEO Marcus Huber. "We create high-quality furniture with a design that lasts for a long time – that's our philosophy."

Stockholm-based Note Design Studio has contributed three designs to the collection. As well as the pedestal-shaped Upp ceramics, the studio designed a glass pendant light that resembles stretched fabric in shape, and a huge oak table that pays tribute to Japanese joinery.

According to Note's co-founder Cristiano Pigazzini, the table was originally designed as a meeting table for its own office.

"Our idea was to make something that you never throw away, that lasts forever," he explained. "It's a very simple construction, inspired by the Japanese way of pinning."

Pigazzini also worked with the other designers that created pieces for the collection, to ensure they all shared a similar aesthetic.

Italian designer Luca Nichetto took inspiration from a bean when creating the curves of his Mame armchair. It features a rounded profile, black metal legs and plump upholstery.

"The idea was to make a very classic shape – a match between classic Scandinavian design and a classic French chair, with a high back," said Nichetto.

Nichetto also designed the Print rugs, some of which are patterned with small squares that vary in tone and proportion, and some of which are adorned with ladder-like stripes.

Other chairs in the range include a lounge chair with wooden legs by Danish studio Norm Architects and a new version of Andreas Engesvik's Bollo chair, which has become one of the most recognisable items in Fogia's repertoire.

Swiss design duo Diiis created both the small Hawu shelving unit and the Gito side table. The table features a circular inset, which functions as a coaster, while the shelves feature semi-circular bookends.

The collection is completed by three designs from Stockholm-based designers: a new larger version of the modular Retreat sofa – designed by Monica Förster back in 2015 – the flower-inspired Poppy poufs by Nina Jobs, and the double-layer glass Big Sur table by Simon Klenell and Kristoffer Sundin.

The collection was unveiled at the Haymarket hotel as part of Stockholm Design Week 2018, which continues until 11 February. It is also on show at the Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair, which opened today.

“The open concept layout is light, bright and airy with a sophisticated beach style. We loved collaborating with our clients on this home to showcase their simple and elegant aesthetic. Each space is optimized for entertaining and comfortable living while still taking full advantage of the breath-taking views. The textiles used are performance fabrics to encourage the indoor/outdoor living that the space calls for located directly at the coast. Oceanside living at its finest!”

Interior Design Ideas: Modern Coastal Shingle Home

Built by my friends at Patterson Custom Homes (previously featured here & here), architecture by Brandon Architects, Inc., interiors by Lindye Galloway Interiors and photography by Chad Mellon Photography, this home will allow you to leave the blog feeling inspired. The interiors have a modern coastal approach and if you are crazy about pillows as much as I am, you will love this house tour because this place features many beautiful pillow combinations that you could replicate in your own home!

Taking inspiration from East Coast Traditional and Shingle style architecture, this home blends some more contemporary and modern features such as the open layout/floor plan and steel doors and windows at the entry. Another powerful feature of the design is the double height volume between the courtyard and the kitchen/second floor walk to the master. This helps provide more light and volume. Other features include exterior trellis shade structures, tall vaulted ceilings, and a stained blue shingle finish with white trim that adds to the richness in detail and design of the home.

Interior Design Ideas: Modern Coastal Shingle Home

I have waited for a long time to able to post this home and I really hope this house tour brings you some happy and inspiring moments. The builder, Patterson Custom Homes, was able to share a lot of details (they are the best!!!), but the furnishing were not available. For this reason I’ll be doing my best to share similar options so you still can get the same look!

The kitchen opens to dining room and living room. Notice the peninsula between the dining room and kitchen. It would be wonderful if the cabinet doors were added to this side as well, so it could be better accessed from the dining room. Keep this in mind if you have a similar layout.

This space features a combination of custom-stained beams and coffered ceiling with crown and tongue and groove.

Great Room

The Great Room is located just across from the dining room and it opens to the front patio and to a private courtyard.

The designer did such a great job when decorating these floating shelves. It feels very organic, neutral with a subtle coastal vibe. I hope it inspires you.

Beautiful Homes of Instagram

Happy new week, my friends! How wonderful it is to start this brand new week with you! May all of us have a Blessed and healthy week, filled with good vibes. Talking about good vibes, this “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” today is all about that! Agata, from @TassonInteriors, has a home that feels heavenly. Its neutral color palette combined with classic millwork exudes a timeless elegance that embraces you the moment you step inside.

Having Agata on the blog today is truly a great honor. She worked really hard on collecting all sources for this feature and even hired a photographer to share her home with you. “Hi! My name is Agata from @TassonInteriors. I’m so excited and grateful to be featured by Luciane on Home Bunch! I’ve found so much inspiration here and it feels surreal to be featured among so many talented designers and homeowners.

I started my career as a criminal prosecutor ten years ago. When our daughter was born I took a break from law to enjoy these precious young years with her. During that time my husband and I started our third home renovation. Earlier this year I started an Instagram account to share our renovation, and my love for design. With the encouragement of family and friends I am now in the process of pursuing my longstanding passion for interior design and decorating as a career.

Our current home is the one featured here in these photos. My husband and I purchased this home as a new builder grade home. We love the neighbourhood because it has an abundance of parks, new schools, young families, and it’s close to many amenities. We didn’t upgrade anything through the builder choosing instead to put our own stamp on the house which included full kitchen and bathroom renovations (our master bathroom is currently under construction). I wanted a light, bright, airy, warm, casual and liveable home. I’m really flattered to be able to share my home and work with you. I hope that you enjoy the tour! Thanks for stopping by!”

How inviting! Great design and beauty embraces you the moment you open the front door. Notice the classic wainscoting.

Mirrored Doors

Mirrored Doors: I added these mirrored doors in our entrance hallway to make the space feel more open and airy. We love them so much that we also added them to our laundry closet. (source is Trim-lite)

Dining Room

I love having a separate dining room but we didn’t want anything too formal or fancy. We love to host family and friends, but our dining room isn’t just for special occasions. We eat dinner in our dining room every evening. It’s so important to me for our family to connect around the table at the end of the day.

Herringbone Flooring

These herringbone floors were a last minute decision which turned out to be our favourite feature of this room. We also added some millwork to give the white walls some interest.

Chandelier: Visual Comfort Co. hand -rubbed antique bras with clear glass.

Picture This!

Picture Frame Wainscoting: We added picture frame wainscoting to the dining room and the master bedroom. It gives both rooms a more elegant and custom feel.

Window Treatment

Drapes – custom made by family member (white linen fabric).

Chairs – Sears Canada (years ago) recently re-upholstered with Tonic Living fabric (Weston, Salt) painted by Paint it Like New – similar here.

Art Work – HomeSense similar available through McGee & Co.

Butler’s Pantry

A butler’s pantry is located between the dining room and kitchen.

The wide plank European white oak floors are by far my favourite feature of this house. They add so much character and warmth to our home. They also give it the light and airy feel that I was after.

Cabinetry

Glass doors give an airy feel to the butler’s pantry cabinetry.

Kitchen

This is our favourite space in our home. I love the open floor plan kitchen and family room. It’s where we spend most of our time preparing meals, playing, reading and enjoying our family time. The back of our home is southwest facing so we enjoy a lot of natural light here. We eliminated the breakfast area and designed this custom kitchen opting for a large 9 x 4.5 foot island instead of a breakfast table. I wanted the kitchen to feel modern and fresh yet timeless. The panelled fridge was a splurge but I absolutely love it.

For the backsplash I opted for a very classic white bevelled 3 x 6 subway tile. I didn’t want anything too busy or trendy. I love how the backsplash compliments the quartz counters without competing with them.

I like the fact that the mix of metal in this kitchen exists but it’s limited to two finishes; polished nickel and aged iron.

Hardwood Flooring

The wide plank European white oak floors are by far my favourite feature of this house. They add so much character and warmth to our home. They also give it the light and airy feel that I was after.

Flooring: 7.5 inch European white Oak made by Purparket unstained (sanded on site). Finished with a clear coat made by Loba – No stain used – similar here.

Counterstools

I searched and searched for the perfect counter stools but ultimately I decided to stick with the ones that I already had. Instead, with the help of Anne from Oakville Slipcovers I had slipcovers made from some beautiful striped fabric from Tonic Living. I’m so happy with how they turned out!

Barstools – Homesense find years ago but I recently added these slipcovers Slipcover fabric is Tonic Living. Custom made by Anne at Oakville Slipcovers – similar here – (Select Fabric: Perennials® Performance Shirting Stripe – Pewter).

Kitchen Island Dimensions

Island Size – 4.5 feet by 9 feet

Family Room

I love the generous size of this room. We opted for a sectional sofa to maximize seating. We added a coffered ceiling to add some character and interest to this room, as well as to add some definition to the space. My husband built the shiplap wall above the fireplace.

Pillows

This is a good way to place pillows on a sectional sofa.

Pillows: The striped one in the corner is from H&M home (similar here). The blue one in the corner is Ikea (similar here) and the striped one closest to the fireplace is the sameness one that is from Tonic Living (similar here).

The blue and white 25 inch pillows were also Pottery Barn and no longer available (similar here).

We originally planned to hang the TV above the fireplace but we ended up mounting it on the adjacent wall so that the shiplap would remain the feature.

Powder Room

The powder room was originally located between the kitchen and the dining room. We relocated the powder room into the sunken laundry room. The original powder room was transformed into a walk-in pantry across from the butler’s pantry. I love that the powder room is now in a more discrete spot.

I was really inspired by Luciane’s first Beautiful Homes of Instagram Home Bunch feature @JSHomeDesign’s powder room. That’s where I found this beautiful Crown wallpaper and this honed marble herringbone tile. I designed this custom mirrored vanity and paired it with a durable quartz counter.

Pocket Doors (powder room) Another way we added custom charm to our cookie cutter build was to add pocket doors. They are such great space savers. (Hardware is by Emtek) (pocket door is in the powder room, between master bedroom and master bathroom & 2 master bedroom walk-in closets)

Another favourite space is our home office. This space is also our craft room, wrapping station and future homework station. I love that my husband and I can use it at the same time. It’s a bright, airy and cheerful space that I look forward to spending time in.

A 21st century update for the classic BMW R90/6

Custom motorcycles are often criticized for putting aesthetics over functionality. But performance is still at the top of the list for builders like Analog Motorcycles, who have just completed this ride-focused BMW R90/6.

The Chicago-based shop excels at making bikes look good and equipping them with all the right upgrades. So when their friends over at Motoworks Chicago had a client looking for a custom boxer, Analog got the call.

“Colin, the client, is a BMW fan,” says Analog’s Tony Prust. “He owns about five airheads, and Motoworks does a lot of his servicing. Colin mentioned that he wanted a heavily modified custom, so Motoworks said, ‘You should call Tony at Analog Motorcycles.’”

Analog have their own distinct style, and Tony’s pretty adamant about retaining most of the creative control on their builds. But Colin came into the project with a set idea of what he wanted, and was only prepared to give Analog carte blanche up to a point…

“So we dug further into what he was after,” says Tony, “and I have to say, I didn’t need to alter any of Colin’s ideas. He wanted a fast, heavily customized BMW that to most people would not look that custom—but to a BMW enthusiast, would check all the ‘I want to do that to my bike’ boxes.”

Analog started with a very clean 1976 BMW R90/6. (So clean, in fact, that they took off all the bodywork and stored it away, just in case they ever needed to restore another BMW.) With the bike stripped, the motor went off to Motoworks for a refresh.

No expense was spared. The R90 engine was treated to a 1,000 cc Siebenrock kit, a lightened flywheel, a Boyer Bransden electronic ignition and a deeper oil pan. The carbs were swapped for Mikuni units, and the air box was drilled and kitted with a K&N filter.

The motor was painstakingly restored on the outside too, and now wears black split valve covers. Analog also fitted a pair of their own catalog mufflers, produced by Cone Engineering.

Analog have a proprietary subframe that they manufacture in-house for all of their vintage boxer builds, so naturally they bolted one of those up. Colin had also purchased Öhlins rear shocks, so those went on too.

The front end was upgraded with a pair of BMW /7-model forks, so that the bike could run twin front disc brakes.

A set of Race Tech Gold Valve emulators went into the forks too, and the brakes were upgraded with EBC rotors. Analog also added an aftermarket fork brace, trimmed the front fender, and braced the swing arm.

The wheels were rebuilt with new spokes from Buchanan’s, and the rims and hubs powder coated black. While the guys were at it, they also added some machined detailing to the rear hub, based off a reference that Colin sent.

With the chassis and stance sorted, Analog turned their attention to the bodywork. An original /6 tank was matched up to a plush and roomy seat upholstered by Dane Utech. A new battery box and rear fender were fabricated, along with a pair of headlight ears that mimic the OEM units, but with a sleeker effect.

The whole bike was rewired around a Motogadget m.unit control box, with an EarthX lithium battery. Other ‘Motogadgetry’ includes the switches, bar-end turn signals and mirrors—all parts that Analog use frequently, and sell in their online store.

Tony tapped into his own Analog Motor Goods catalog for most of the finishing kit. That includes new rider and passenger foot pegs and mounts, the top triple clamp, bar risers, tank badges and rear lighting kit. His crew also installed Renthal bars, Magura controls, and a Daytona speedo that’s been sunk into the headlight bucket.

Artistimo handled the classic piano black paint job, but the detailing on this airhead goes beyond just the iconic pin stripes. Tony figured that the detail applied to the rear hub should carry throughout the build—so bits like the fins on the valve and sump covers were machined back.

“It was a very challenging detail to do right,” Tony reveals. “All the parts are cast, and getting the details to look uniform took an insane amount of hard work. The end result is pretty great—we were going to go with a classic white pin stripe on black, but decided to change to a very subtle silver to help tie it all together.”

We especially love the sneaky touches hidden all over—like the custom machined Analog logo that covers the old choke lever mount.

“The majority of those ideas were things we had done in the past, or Colin wanted on the BMW,” says Tony. “Put all of them together and the result is a quick, very classic, very custom and very modern version of an R90/6.”

Colin is reportedly over the moon with his new Beemer, and let Tony borrow it for a 780-mile tour run by Cycle World magazine.

Three other builders were invited to submit bikes, and there was a People’s Choice award at each stopover—with an overall winner picked at the end.

Analog’s BMW took top honors. Why are we not surprised?

Custom Bikes Of The Week: 25 August, 2019

From cafe racers to scooters, we’re covering interesting ground this week. From the UK we’ve got a stunning Guzzi and a sensible Bonneville, Switzerland offers a sleek Honda CB400, and from the Czech Republic we have news of the rebirth of Čezeta.

Honda CB400F Supersport by 2V Motos Swiss Brothers Marc and Phillip got hooked on wrenching when their father handed them a wrecked moped, and challenged them to get it going. Now operating as 2V Motos, they’ve come a long way.

The project has quite a backstory. The brothers drove three hours to buy a pair of bikes from a former Swiss hill climb champ, but neither had papers. After a lengthy process, they managed to re-register one bike—but the getting the Honda on the road wasn’t happening. And once it had been stripped down, it turned out to be in a pretty shoddy state, so it was relegated to a corner of the workshop indefinitely.

A while later, Marc needed a physical project to complete his Masters in architecture. Once he’d convinced his professors that a motorcycle build was relevant to his thesis, 2V Motos started transforming the sorry Honda into a pure classic racer over a six-month period. It underwent a full motor rebuild and re-bore, with polished ports, a race clutch and a four-into-one exhaust system from Delkavic. It also wears a Benelli Mojave tank, a hand-made tail section, and a fairing from Omega Racer. And Marc and Phillip also added new Borrani rims, TTR yokes and rear sets, Fehling clip-ons and a Nissin master cylinder with braided hoses.

Triumph Bonneville SE by Sinroja There are only two motorcycles I regret selling, and one of them was my air-cooled ‘mag wheel’ Bonneville. It was a great bike that got the job done with minimal fuss, performed well enough, and got better with even the most minimal of tweaks.

This Bonnie from Sinroja is a great example of how to finesse the Bonneville without going wild. The Sinroja brothers were using it as a daily commuter (no surprises there), when they decided to spruce it up for the Malle Mile—a weekend event filled with mild off-road fun. (Which is why it’s wearing a set of knobbies).

Every change is subtle, but impactful. There’s a full suspension package from TEC, with new internals and preload adjusters up front and new shocks out back. TEC also supplied the scrambler-ific two-into-one exhaust, rear sets, a tail tidy, and a whole bunch of smaller dress-up parts.

Sinroja also installed a new headlight and brackets, and Rizoma turn signals. They treated the bike to a major service, and even dyno tuned it to dial in the new exhaust. The front fender was trimmed, and everything was then refinished in black, with gunmetal pin striping on the tank. But before Sinroja could field it in the Mile, a customer walked into the shop, saw it on the bench and snapped it up. [More]

Honda Motocompo Most major cities suffer from the same ailment: parking is a nightmare. As a result, many people that commute in by car often end up parking far from work, and legging it thereon. It’s not a new problem, and Honda had a nifty solution for this back in 1981.

They released a compact hatchback called the ‘City,’ and then they released the ‘Motocompo’—a scooter that fitted perfectly in the City’s trunk, and was designed to carry you from parking spot to final destination. All you had to do was take the 99-pound Motocompo out of the trunk, unfold its bars, pegs and seat, et voila.

Also known as the NCZ50, this scoot was powered by a 49 cc two-stroke single with an auto transmission. The 2.5 hp motor was good for a top speed of around 25 to 30 kph, the wheelbase was a mere 32.7” and it rolled on 8” wheels.

As cute (and clever) as the Motocompo was, it never really caught on, so Honda stopped making it around 1983. This one’s just been auctioned for $ 2,750, in mostly original condition, save for a few consumables that have been replaced. Moto Guzzi Le Mans MK3 by La Busca This classy Moto Guzzi resto-mod comes from Jez at La Busca in Yorkshire, and it’s a little deceptive. At a glance, it looks like it might have come from the factory—but it’s actually a cleverly reworked Le Mans Mk3. What’s even more impressive is that the project started out as a rolling chassis and a box full of parts.

The Le Mans has shed its lean, angular bodywork for more shapely forms. The seat actually came with the bike; it’s from Guiliari, and was originally designed for the Kawasaki Z1. Jez had it re-upholstered in pine green leather, and let its classic shape dictate the direction of the rest of the build.

He kept the Guzzi’s boxy, 80s fuel tank, but replaced the fairing with a hand-made aluminum item. It uses a six-point mounting system to attach to the original Tonti frame, and there’s an ultra-modern Motogadget dash hiding behind it. Local engineers Lune Engineering helped Jez mount it on a clamp on top of the headstock, with an integrated bearing (to allow the front end to turn independently from the fairing).

There’s a lot going on under the hood too. Jez rewired the bike around a Motogadget m.unit, and added a Sachse electronic ignition, along with a GPS sender to feed the speedo. And he added one of his signature La Busca twin, upswept exhaust systems. Tasty. [More]

Čezeta 506 electric scooter Scooter aficionados will know the name Čezeta: the Czech company was famous for its long, torpedo-shaped machines, known as the Types 501 and 502, along with the rickshaw-style 505. Although they were only manufactured between 1957 and 1964, Čezeta scooters have been elevated to cult status—probably due to their traffic-stopping looks.

Čezeta is back in business again, and the good news is that the quirky styling hasn’t been watered down for the new 506 model. This time round, power comes from electric motors in two configurations, offering 11 or 15 horsepower. After a four-year development process, limited production started last year, with most 506s going into the local rental market.

But now a hugely successful fundraising campaign has banked 600,000 euros for the reborn company, and production is ramping up. Čezeta has already signed up six dealers in Europe, and offers a semi-custom option too, with a build-to-order system.

Prices are high—starting at around US$15,000—so the 506 is definitely a niche model. But we reckon there will be a small but lucrative market for the Čezeta. It’s got to be one of the most stylish (and environmentally friendly) ways for two people to zoom around tight city streets. [Čezeta]
