so, me rambling a weird little sidequest I’ve been on lately.
when hanging out on twitter (smth I honestly plan to do less of, as that place is more of a gutter than usual lately), I saw another creator I follow mentioning they have a voiceclaim for one of their OCs
now, I’ve heard of voiceclaims before obvi, but it just kind of dawned on me that this was something I could also do?? specifically for my own OCs??? well, at least two of them. bc hex still sounds exactly like diego, no change, but unless dani and eva want to drop videos tomorrow of them working on medium-ish creole* accents, I’m kind of working from scratch for those two
(*creole in the sense of it previously meaning “of european descent” but that has shifted according to recent demographics, so I’m still doing research on what a more specific term to describe it might be)
but so anyway, I’m fairly adhd (you’re all shocked, I know) and definitely benefit from having background sound while I’m working, and I’m also someone who needs a podcast on to fall asleep so my brain has to follow a narrative and not run all over the place, so I immediately was like “omg audiobooks of course :0” bc it wouldn’t even have to matter what the book was about, bc if the voice was right I could just pretend it was one of them reading me something random from a bookshelf and that would be fine
but god, if my dumb ass hasn’t been digging through my audiobooks app for a while now. I’ve been working on the twins one at a time, so I’ve been searching for maxi first, and once I eliminate everyone who’s the wrong gender and age I’m left with so few options I’m like “…hm okay this might be tricky.”
I had it between two I thought sounded decent, but then when I went to research other roles the actors have done, I discover their accents are just limited to these parts I’m investigating. Which should be fine - it’s not like their voices are based on anyone real - but then my virgo ass worries that it wouldn’t be accurate, then. but again, it’s not like the actors I’ve picked for fcs would exactly be accurate either, so idk what I’m so worried about!!
idk, maybe it’s the fact that my dad’s folks are from here (not where I live in LA specifically, more bayou country) and I’d want to reflect it accurately/not want anyone to think I’d settle just for a heavy-handed imitation. ._. but at the end of the day, that’s still me holding myself to standards no one else is holding me to, so. unless we’re casting the hbo series tomorrow, I’m not gonna sweat it too much lmao
anyway!! if I come up with maxi or rora, I’ll be sure to rec them here so other people can have a listen. 🖤 but also, this is me putting out a call to say if anyone can think of another place I might sort through people’s voices, I’d appreciate it ✨ (I might try podcasts next if I need to, but that feels way more like a needle in a haystack when I can at least sort through audiobooks by setting and summary, etc.)
anyway!! this is me just thinking out loud a bit. to everyone who sent the Morvants hugs the other day, they are v much mutual and reciprocated and appreciated 🖤🖤🖤 y’all are angels 🥰 I hope everyone’s night is going okay in the meantime ✨

hi, just letting you know that Alastor from hazbin hotel is of creole descent so you’re whitewashing him by having a white man as his fc.
hi. the acusary tone you're using isn't appreciated, because obviously we haven't allowed this on purpose. as admins, we can't know every fandom and every character, so we trust our members to make approptiate choices with their fcs. in this case, after some research, it doesn't seem like something that's explicitly stated in the show, so we don't blame them. they have changed their fc appropriatly. thanks!

CHARACTER INFORMATION:
Character Name: Emeline 'Emmy' Cormier.
Type of Connection: Mother.
Connection Name: Ximena Flores.
Connection Age: 50 - 51.
Suggested FCs: Ana de la Reguera, Sara Ramirez, Constance Marie, UTP. Honestly there's such a lack of resources out there for older Mexican women/non-binary faceclaims, so maybe there's one I haven't discovered yet!
CONNECTION DESCRIPTION:
trigger warning: abandonment.
Emmy’s mom was young and living in Pasadena, Texas where she worked as a housekeeper when she met Emmy’s dad and fell head over heels for his charming smile and extravagant gifts. They rendezvoused every few weeks for about a year before she picked up her life and moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to be with him. She had expected to move in with him, but instead he had an apartment set up for her and only showed up for a few nights every couple of weeks when he was ‘home from a business trip’. This woman was very clearly being bamboozled as The Other Woman, but was naive and innocent and in love so she as none the wiser. After a few months of this, the man stopped showing up, his phone was disconnected, and Emmy’s mom came home to an eviction notice on her apartment door (aka he yeeted and stopped paying her rent). However, he did leave her with a little gift - a positive pregnancy test. So, without any back up plan as her parents lived in Mexico and she wasn’t going to tell them she was pregnant and not married until Hell froze over, she found a roommate by the name of Amelie Boudreaux, a slightly older Creole woman hailing from New Orleans, and became a housekeeper for a local hotel to make enough to get by. When Emmy was four years old, her mom went to work early one morning, long before she awoke as usual, and just never came back. Amelie was unable to reach the woman and without knowing more than a last name for Emmy’s father (Ximena was quite tightlipped about the details of her life and there was always the slight language barrier between her and Amelie) there was no way to contact anyone to take Emmy in. So they just continue as usual and Amelie became the only mom Emmy ever knew. Where Ximena went and why she left is completely up for discussion, though I do have a few headcanons I've tossed around in the past! Emmy has recently gotten married and once starred on a popular cooking show, so it's likely that there's an article or two floating around about the wedding and her mom would recognize her name from it.
Do you need to be contacted before someone applies? There's a bit of history to headcanon so I'd love to discuss and yell things!

TSC/TMI OC - Oraia
form adapted from this template!
BASIC
Name: Oriana "Oraia" Haven
Birthplace: Nueva Orleans de Baja Luisiana de Nueva España (present-day New Orleans, USA)
Birthday: May. 9, 1795 (biologically 34/chronologically 212 in 2007)
Race: Warlock; parents are Michaelle Durand (Human Witch) & Juan "Mad Jack" Gabriel Hernández aka Belphegor (Greater Demon)
Ethnicity: Dominican Creole (Spaniard, French, Dahomean)
Sexuality: Pansexual
APPEARANCE
Overall: Oraia appears as a typical female in her thirties, standing at approximately 5'5" (1.65 m) with a toned physique and tanned light brown skin. Her dark brown hair is naturally tousled with bouncy, tight waves. As the decades pass, she tries different hairstyles, but she tends to wear her hair loose with just a couple of strands sectioned off. Her eyes are a light sea green. She has warlock marks consisting of the ears of a doe and transparent fish scales in patches covering her skin. Oraia's magic looks like mercury--silvery-white liquid metal. Nowadays, she tends to dress somewhere between what mundanes call "bohemian" and "chic", wearing short, lacy tops and high-waisted pants with open blazers, or long, thin A-line dresses. Both of her ears are pierced at the lobe, orbital, helix, and the sideways industrial point. The only makeup she wears is eyeliner (unless you count her always-colorful nails).
FC: Hannah John-Kamen
BACKGROUND
She was born to the Dominican Creole woman, Michaelle Durand (who was a free woman of color) and the Prince of Hell, Belphegor. Belphegor had just come off several years of plundering throughout the Atlantic as Captain Mad Jack, a Spanish pirate. He then decided to explore the colonized New World, which is where he met Michaelle on the then-named French colony of Saint-Domingue in the Caribbean. She initially thought that he, as a European man, was only interested in having her as his placée (a free woman of color who had children by and could get property from the European man who she entered into an agreement with, despite not being married to him in the eyes of the Christian church). However, he was genuinely attracted to her. He courted her as one would back then and began teaching her magic once he realized her family preferred pagan traditions to Christianity. By the time he and Michaelle left the Caribbean (fleeing the Haitian Revolution) for North America, she was pregnant. They were in love until Belphegor showed his temper on several occasions. On one such occasion, a man called Michaelle by a slur. Belphegor beat that man until he was pulled away, blood on his clothes. And when he and his wife would get into arguments, he'd get loud and break things. It was something that his wife grew increasingly tired of until she finally told him to go. Oraia doesn't remember most of that, but Belphegor would contact her as she got older, more after her mom died. By then, Oraia had a pretty good idea of how the mundane world worked, how to do a few elemental spells, how to speak Creole French, and how to cook well enough for herself. Belphegor would take her traveling, using his ability to open portals (which she'd unknowingly inherited). While he was there, his supposed White status kept her safe, but he was teaching her enough magic to fight lower demons if it came to that, plus how to speak Chthonian, the language of warlock magic. He also introduced her to the Shadow World, which made her happy--her warlock marks as well as her ethnicity had been met with mixed reactions in the mundane world. In the Shadow World, if you hadn't done anything to piss anyone off, you had some respect. The warlock gained a reputation for her ability to acquire precious objects, cast strong elemental spells, and show kindness to children and animals.
PERSONALITY
Overall: There is not a person that Oraia is afraid to approach. This extends to speaking to children, lesser demons, and Shadowhunters, though she isn't dumb enough to do so without some defensive magic at the ready. If she gets an idea in her head, she’s very eager to see it through–and sometimes that’s not the healthiest option. Overall, Oraia is a compassionate, loyal, and positive person. Few things make her angry--but if you do make her angry, she’ll quickly resolve the issue, then go back to drinking or partying or whatever it was she was doing moments ago. Close friends are her family. When she isn’t looking for an adventure or trying to help someone, she’s being hedonistic: enjoying sex, socializing, and sunbathing.
Hobbies: exploring, dancing, partying, having sex, helping kids
Fear(s): never having a family of her own; being isolated
Languages: French, Creole French, Chthonian, English, Spanish

Laurel Dmitrović
Age: 40
Birthday: July 6th
Gender: cis woman, though she'd toying with demi-girl as a label (she/they pronouns)
Sexuality: pansexual
Conditions: anxiety
FC: Troian Bellisario
Laurel Dmitrović was the only daughter of a Serbian immigrant and his Creole wife. As odd of a pair those two would seem, they were the best parents a young girl could ask for, raising her securely in the Jewish faith. Beyond that, they also were very set on making sure Laurel was secure in herself before anything else and be able to provide for herself rather than rely on anyone else. It was hard for them to say with any certainty that their daughter would be truly safe in the world they lived in, and so she needed to be reliant on herself, but know that good things happened because of good people, and while she needed to protect herself, being a good person and standing up for those who needed it was the most notable thing she could ever do.
Perhaps that was why she wanted to be a reporter from a young age. What she dreamed of doing was to showcase what was wrong to let the public know what needed to be done. As a young woman, she went to Dartmouth for her undergraduate in journalism before going to Emerson for her masters. While it looked impressive on paperwork, getting a job was hard as still few people wanted to take her seriously with what were still rather idealistic and even radical views. All the same, she had found a jobs eventually, though she shifted several times before finding a good paying job that also allowed to take the "risks" she wished to.
Her mother died when she was 25, and while her father still worked and was able to take care of himself, Laurel then made it her duty that her father would have a good life, after he worked his ass off her entire childhood to give her everything she needed. She often sent money back home, even if that meant making budget cuts for herself. It was worth it. ...of course, what she really wanted and needed was a promotion for all her hard work and years at the paper. She was hoping for an editor position, to allow for more ethical journalism practices and to influence the owners and CEOs to lessen the pay gap between its male and female workers, but also its black and white workers. Many people didn't see all she was attempting to do once she got to her goal, and because of that, she as often seen as a hard and too ambitious woman. In an age where it seemed men still wanted a homemaker, she wasn't exactly any man's first pick. So, she passed through her thirties without many serious relationships, still clawing her way up the ladder to finally put in motion all her plans, both for her family and the journalistic team that became like a second family.
It seemed like a test when she was given what could've been the biggest story of the century, one she'd be following and continuously writing about for months. ...granted, Laurel knew very little about science, so writing about the logistics of a space mission and the newly invented and perfected Gravity Wave was... a lot to take in. She felt a little lost, honestly, but put her best foot forward for what would likely be two years in Houston, mostly interviewing with those as mission control, but being able to meet the two man crew of the Ocula before launch and occasionally speak with them over technologies not often allowed to the public once they were in space. She found herself indifferent about Alex Toomey, the young man whose father had been the first man on Mars. He was a little off-putting, though she could tell it wasn't thinking himself above her, so much as it was some sort of facade. All the same, she couldn't get much deeper than an interview with him. ...Ted Lockwood, the man who invented the Gravity Wave, though, was kind. He was down to earth and understated in a way few important people she ever interviewed were. There came to be a lot of meetings off the record before launch, something she was looking forward to when they did plan to meet. Not only was she amazed by his humble attitude, but she felt close to him. Closer than she'd felt to anyone in a long time. Perhaps it was something. ...but maybe she was reading too much into it.
Laurel's story seemed like something out of someone's cliche romance movies, and she acknowledged that. However, there were clues pointing somewhere else that she never picked up at all.
This wasn't a romantic comedy. Oh no. Laurel was in the middle of a science fiction thriller, and that was something she'd learn when her world quite literally ended.
