Degrees Plato, Oakland CA
26 June 2023
After a lazy day, Frank and I headed to Degrees Plato for a couple of pints. Degrees Plato is a measurement used in the brewing of beer, so it's appropriate this little spot has used this as their name. They don't brew themselves, but they do focus on craft beers with a decent tap list as well as large beer coolers with all sorts of things available.
In addition to their indoor space, there's an enclosed outdoor space with what is most likely a stage for live shows.
My first pint was Sister Frida, a 6.2% Hazy IPA by Laughing Monk Brewing in San Francisco. Such a tasty pint and a great color!
The second was Mini Separation Anxiety, a 4% Session IPA by Berryessa Brewing in Winters CA. Not only was the flavor great, but this didn't taste "thin" as so many beers with low alcohol content like this one do.
This concludes the Oakland stay on this trip. Other beers that I had while here include:
Paulaner Oktoberfest
Hacker-Pschorr Munich Dunkel
21st Amendment Hazy IPA
21st Amendment Blood Orange IPA
Drake's Brewing Denogginizer Double IPA
(plus one or more two I don't recall the names of)

🍺: Drakes Denogginizer Imperial IPA 9.75 abv From my experiences, Double/Imperial IPA's can mean one of two things. Either the beer is REALLY hoppy, to the point to where you might as well forget about water, yeast and barley and straight up eat the hops off the vine. Or, in the case of Denogginizer not as hoppy as you would think but somehow a tad bit sweet. The bouquet would suggest that this is an amber ale, but the hops in the mid-ensemble of the palate would like to object with your opinion. It's an IPA that resembles sour patch kids if they were made in reverse; sweet first, sour halfway, and sweet again. Mouthfeel is a bit flat, but that helps with understanding the fruit notes (I can't identify them, I'm a noob, I know). I might be tasting some peach? This beer was definitely worth the buy (it was the last sixer on the shelf) although I wouldn't consider it to be an IIPA from the lack of hops, I'm still enjoying the experience of tasting this iconic west coast beer. #ipa #imperialipa #drakesbrewing #denogginizer #craftbeer #respectbeer

Sukitoa o Namau is a Moroccan experimental sound artist and researcher. Her background is rooted in contemporary dance, performing arts and visual arts.
"As a child, I remember being fascinated by when traditional bands started playing during weddings, baptisms and other celebrations and by the body reactions their music triggered. The area I come from is known for Sufi brotherhoods called Issawa and they are systematically booked to perform for these events. I remember women asking people around to hold them as they were scared to go into a trance and lose control in front of everybody. Social pressure in those contexts where everybody is well dressed, behaving themselves, leaves little room for erratic and unpredictable acts.
Their friends or relatives would come, sit around them and hold firmly their hands, legs or any part of their body to control them. When the band started playing, I remember their body shivering, their eyes between two worlds. At some point, some manage to stay in control with the help of the people around and others would just abandon themselves to it.
So my first experience with sound is of how invasive it can be, how it can affect, confuse a body, tear it apart and cause uncontrollable gestures, resulting in a disheveled and sloppy mess. I often heard about this music “dakchi tay dkheli f3dami”, literally meaning “this is penetrating my bones” which is a very deep and powerful way to describe this phenomenon."*

The Most Popular Beer at Every NFL Stadium, According to the Untappd App
Last week marked the start of the 2021 NFL season, and with fans returning to watch the games in person, that also means tailgating and stadium brews are back on the table. Yet some beers tend to be more popular than others on game days.
In a recent article, USA Today Sports’ The List Wire shared the most popular beers at every NFL stadium. To compile the ranking, The List Wire partnered with the drinking app Untappd, and based the results on the “most checked-in” beer at each location since the 2019 season.
Though the methodology isn’t completely comprehensive, the results paint an interesting picture of varying style preferences, and showcase a range of brands from regional to national.
At MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Giants and Jets, Bud Light was the beer of choice. The nation’s best-selling beer also came out on top at the Miami Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium.
Fans watching the Eagles play at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Stadium opted for Sly Fox Brewing’s Vulpulin, a locally brewed IPA. New England Patriots fans also favored something closer to home: Massachusetts’s own Julius IPA from Tree House Brewing Company. (Sorry, Sam Adams.)
