Your smile is one of your most noticeable features, and having confidence in it can significantly impact your self-esteem and overall well-being. If you're in Columbus, Ohio, and want to improve the appearance of your smile, cosmetic dentistry provides a variety of options to fix flaws and create the smile of your dreams. In this extensive guide, we'll delve into the field of cosmetic dentistry and show you how it can improve your smile and self-esteem.
Tumblr media
What is Cosmetic Dentistry?
A subspecialty of dentistry called cosmetic dentistry works to enhance teeth, gums, and smile aesthetics. Unlike traditional dentistry, which primarily addresses oral health issues, cosmetic dentistry aims to enhance the beauty of your smile through various treatments and procedures.
Common Cosmetic Dental Procedures
Teeth Whitening: In only one dental appointment, professional teeth whitening procedures can lighten your smile by several shades by eliminating stains and discolorations from the surface of your teeth.
Porcelain Veneers: Thin, specially-made shells called porcelain veneers are attached to the front surfaces of teeth to enhance their appearance.
Dental Bonding: Dental bonding fills gaps, fixes chips, and enhances the size and shape of teeth by adding a composite resin that matches the tooth's color.
Invisalign: With Invisalign, teeth can be straightened discreetly without using metal braces by using clear aligners. For those looking for a more discrete and pleasant option than traditional braces, Invisalign is a great choice.
Dental Implants: Dental implants can restore the look and functionality of your smile by replacing lost teeth. They are surgically placed into the jawbone and topped with lifelike crowns, bridges, or dentures for a natural-looking result.
Gum Contouring: Gum contouring, sometimes called gum reshaping, involves removing extra gum tissue and molding the gums to be more symmetrical and proportionate. This can help to enhance the appearance of an uneven gum line or gummy smile.
Benefits of Cosmetic Dentistry
Improved Confidence: A stunning smile can make you feel more confident and good about yourself, making it easier for you to smile and socialize with others.
Enhanced Appearance: Cosmetic dentistry can help you look more appealing and youthful by treating various aesthetic issues, such as stained, chipped, misaligned, or missing teeth.
Long-lasting Results: With regular care and maintenance, you can enjoy a beautiful smile for years, thanks to the long-lasting results of many cosmetic dental procedures.
Functional Improvements: In addition to improving aesthetics, some cosmetic dental procedures can also enhance the function and comfort of your smile, such as Invisalign for straightening teeth or dental implants for replacing missing teeth.

Unlocking Confidence: Exploring Dental Implants in Columbus, Ohio
Introduction
Dental implants have emerged as a transformative solution for individuals dealing with tooth loss, offering not only functional restoration but also a renewed sense of confidence. In Columbus, Ohio, dental implants have become increasingly popular due to their ability to restore oral health and improve overall well-being. This exploration delves into the realm of dental implants in Columbus ohio, shedding light on their benefits, procedures, and the impact they have on unlocking confidence for individuals across the city.
Tumblr media
Understanding Dental Implants
Dental implants serve as artificial tooth roots, providing a stable foundation for replacement teeth. Composed of biocompatible materials such as titanium, dental implants are surgically placed into the jawbone, where they fuse with the surrounding bone through a process called osseointegration. This integration ensures the stability and durability of dental implants, allowing them to support prosthetic teeth that closely resemble natural teeth in both appearance and function.
Benefits of Dental Implants
The benefits of dental implants extend far beyond mere tooth replacement. Firstly, dental implants offer unmatched stability and functionality, enabling individuals to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. Unlike traditional dentures, which may slip or cause discomfort, dental implants are securely anchored in the jawbone, providing a natural and seamless chewing experience. Additionally, dental implants help preserve bone health by stimulating the jawbone, preventing bone loss and preserving facial aesthetics. With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime, making them a cost-effective and long-term solution for tooth loss.
The Dental Implant Procedure
The dental implant procedure typically involves several stages, beginning with a comprehensive evaluation and treatment planning process. During the initial consultation, the dentist assesses the patient's oral health, evaluates bone density, and discusses treatment goals and expectations. If deemed a suitable candidate for dental implants, the patient undergoes surgical placement of the implant fixture into the jawbone. Following a period of healing and osseointegration, a custom-made dental crown, bridge, or denture is attached to the implant to complete the restoration.
Considerations for Prospective Patients
While dental implants offer numerous benefits, there are certain considerations that prospective patients should take into account before undergoing treatment. Firstly, adequate bone quantity and quality are essential for the success of dental implant placement. Patients with insufficient bone may require bone grafting procedures to augment the jawbone and ensure optimal implant stability. Additionally, patients should maintain good oral hygiene and attend regular dental check-ups to prevent complications and ensure the longevity of dental implants.
Finding a Qualified Implant Dentist in Columbus
Selecting a qualified and experienced implant dentist is crucial for the success of dental implant treatment. Patients in Columbus should seek out dentists who have undergone specialized training in implant dentistry and have a proven track record of successful implant placements. Additionally, patients can research online reviews, ask for patient testimonials, and schedule consultations to evaluate the dentist's expertise and communication style. A reputable implant dentist will take the time to address patients' concerns, explain the treatment process thoroughly, and tailor the treatment plan to meet their individual needs.
Conclusion
In conclusion, dental implants offer a transformative solution for individuals dealing with tooth loss in Columbus, Ohio. Through their ability to restore oral function, preserve bone health, and enhance confidence, dental implants unlock a new lease on life for patients, enabling them to smile, eat, and live without limitations. By understanding the benefits, procedures, and considerations associated with dental implants, individuals in Columbus can make informed decisions about their oral health and take proactive steps towards reclaiming their smiles and unlocking their confidence.

Dear Valued Patients,
I hope this letter finds you well.  I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to you for your loyal support and confidence you have had in me over the years.  It has been my goal to provide you with the highest quality dentistry and to do so with the care and compassion you deserve. I have enjoyed treating each and every one of you over the years, in some cases seeing three generations of the same family.  Again, thank you for your loyalty.
With that said, I am excited to announce my transition to the next step in my life after thirty-eight fulfilling years of providing dental care.  I have done a thorough search for candidates to entrust the care of my patients. I have found the right doctors, the father-son team of Drs. David and Matthew Scurria, and their partner, Dr. Joseph Zaino who will be providing the majority of your dental care.
Dr. Dave has been in practice for 35 years in Dublin.  He is a Miami University graduate and attended the University of North Carolina Dental School.  He has well over 1500 hours of continuing education and has a very similar philosophy of providing care to his patients as we do here in our office.
Dr. Matt is also a graduate of Miami University and attended The Ohio State University Dental School on a Health Care Scholarship from the US Air Force.  He practiced dentistry for four years in the Air Force before joining his dad in practice.  Dr. Matt has extensive training in restorative dentistry, extractions, dentures and implants.  He and his wife, Allison, have a 2 year old daughter and an 8 month old son. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, golf, woodworking and running with his dog, Riley.
Dr. Joseph Zaino, also a Miami University graduate, went to dental school at the University of Louisville and is a lifelong resident of Northwest Columbus.  He practiced in Kenton for four years, providing dental care at the Community Health Center.  He has experience in diagnosing emergency dental problems and treats them with gentle care and efficiency.  He strives to bring more value to his patients through his training in IV sedation, implant placement and routine dental treatments.  He is married and loves spending time with his wife, daughter, and dog, Luna.  Dr. Joeseph enjoys Ohio State football, working out, and being involved in his church.
They are all looking forward to meeting you soon.
I will still be practicing for several weeks into the new year, providing care, finishing up any work I have in progress and making introductions to the new team.  I have full confidence in them and know the quality of care that we have always strived for will continue.
I wish you all good health and prosperity. Thank you for your support, confidence and friendship over the years. It has been a great pleasure to be your dentist.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey E. Himler, DDS, MAGD

Meet Dr. Stan Lowrance
DR. STAN LOWRANCE DDS, FAGD
Dr. Stan Lowrance is a well known dentist in the Rockwall community. He graduated Claude High School in 1973, went on to West TX State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He then continued his education at Baylor College of Dentistry earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1981. He opened his dental practice in Rockwall that same year.
Dr. Lowrance furthered his education by completing studies at Midwest Implant Institute of Columbus, Ohio in 1991 where he received the Presidential Award, the highest honor given to the graduation class. He also completed a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 1991 and was named Who's Who in Outstanding Americans. Dr. Stan has received many prestigious titles:
Rockwall Noon Rotarian of the Year (1988)
Rockwall Noon Rotarian President (1995)
Rockwall Area Man of the Year (1999-2000)
Rockwall ISD trustee (2004-2011)
Rotary District 5810 Rotarian of the Year (2001)
Dr. Lowrance with his wife Cyndie, have two daughters, Chloe and Shanae. He has been involved in foreign dental missions since 1987 and enjoys raising Shorthorn cattle, basketball, scuba diving and a variety of other sports and events in his free time.
Considering his own early experience, dentistry wasn’t a natural career choice for Dr. Stan Lowrance. “I hated going to the dentist as a kid,” he remembered. “It was scary. There was so much fear of the unknown. As a kid, I remember being held down in the dental chair and being aware that something horrible was happening to me.”
Then Dr. Stan met someone. “He was this really nice guy who just happened to be a dentist,” he said. “He took time to answer my questions, explain what he was going to do and why. I realized that going to the dentist didn’t have to be a frightening experience.”
He never forgot the contrast. “When I see someone who’s nervous, or even scared the way I was, it’s time for me to stop and get to know them,” he said. “I allow a minimum of an hour for every new patient. Part of that time is spent chatting, addressing any fears, questions or concerns they have. I never want anyone—of any age—to feel the way I did at the dentist as a kid.”

A Permanent Solution: Dental Implants in Columbus Unveiled
Tumblr media
Introduction:
Dental implants offer a permanent solution for replacing missing teeth and restoring oral function and aesthetics. In Columbus, Ohio, the unveiling of dental implants marks a significant advancement in dental technology, providing patients with a long-lasting and natural-looking solution to tooth loss. In this guide, we will explore the benefits and process of dental implants in Columbus, highlighting their role in restoring smiles and improving quality of life for patients.
Understanding Dental Implants in Columbus:
Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone to serve as artificial tooth roots. These posts provide a stable foundation for dental restorations such as crowns, bridges, or dentures, effectively replacing missing teeth and restoring chewing function and speech clarity. Dental implants in Columbus are designed to look, feel, and function like natural teeth, offering patients a permanent and durable solution for tooth replacement.
The Dental Implant Process:
The process of getting dental implants in Columbus typically involves several stages:
Initial Consultation: During the initial consultation, the dentist will assess the patient's oral health, review their medical history, and discuss their treatment goals. This is an opportunity for patients to ask questions and learn more about the dental implant process.
Treatment Planning: The dentist will create a personalized treatment plan based on the patient's needs and preferences. This may include dental imaging, such as X-rays or CT scans, to evaluate bone density and determine the optimal placement of the implants.
Implant Placement: The dental implants are surgically placed into the jawbone during a minor surgical procedure. The implants are then left to integrate with the surrounding bone tissue through a process called osseointegration, which typically takes several months to complete.
Healing Period: During the healing period, patients may be fitted with temporary restorations to maintain aesthetics and function while the implants integrate with the jawbone. It is essential to follow post-operative instructions and attend follow-up appointments to ensure proper healing and integration of the implants.
Restoration: Once the implants have fully integrated with the jawbone, abutments are attached to the implants, and custom-made dental restorations are secured onto the abutments. These restorations are designed to blend seamlessly with the natural teeth, restoring the appearance and function of the smile.
Benefits of Dental Implants in Columbus:
Permanent Solution: Dental implants offer a permanent and long-lasting solution for tooth replacement, eliminating the need for frequent adjustments or replacements associated with traditional dental prosthetics.
Improved Oral Health: Dental implants help preserve bone density and prevent bone loss, which can occur following tooth loss. By replacing missing teeth and restoring chewing function, implants promote better oral health and overall well-being.
Natural Look and Feel: Dental implants in Columbus are designed to mimic the appearance and function of natural teeth, providing patients with a seamless and lifelike smile that looks and feels natural.
Enhanced Functionality: Dental implants restore chewing function and speech clarity, allowing patients to enjoy their favorite foods and speak with confidence without worrying about slipping or discomfort.
Preservation of Adjacent Teeth: Unlike traditional dental bridges, which require the alteration of adjacent teeth for support, dental implants preserve the integrity of neighboring teeth and help maintain overall dental health.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, dental implants in Columbus offer a permanent and effective solution for replacing missing teeth and restoring oral function and aesthetics. With their natural look, feel, and function, dental implants provide patients with a long-lasting and durable solution that enhances their quality of life. By restoring smiles and improving oral health, dental implants in Columbus help patients regain confidence and enjoy the benefits of a beautiful and functional smile for years to come.

What You Need to Know About Gum Disease ?
Tumblr media
If you’ve been told that you have periodontal or gum disease, you’re not alone. But do you know what causes it, what warning signs to look for, and what to do once you have it?
Nearly half of all adults 30 years of age and older in the United States have some form of periodontal disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Along with tooth decay, gum disease poses the biggest threat to dental health.
Types of Gum Disease
Early-stage gum disease is known as gingivitis. Most commonly the result of poor oral health, gingivitis causes the gums to become red and swollen. Other signs are bad breath and bleeding gums when you brush your teeth or floss.
“There is a tight cuff around your gums,” explains Vera W. L. Tang, doctor of dental surgery and clinical assistant professor of periodontology and implant dentistry at NYU College of Dentistry in New York City. “When irritated, it becomes swollen and forms a gap between the tooth and gum. It can become enlarged, and it allows food and bacteria to get trapped and embedded around the tooth.”
As Holistic Dentist in Durango, CO  points out, “preventing gingivitis comes down to oral hygiene and keeping your teeth clean.” If it’s caught early on, gingivitis is usually treatable. Treatment typically involves a thorough professional cleaning, known as scaling. The condition usually clears up if you maintain good oral hygiene and get regular checkups.
If it’s not properly treated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, a serious condition that causes the gums to pull away from the tooth and form pockets. Bacteria can collect in these pockets, leading to infection and potential bone loss. Teeth can become loose and require extraction.
Certain factors can increase the risk of gingivitis turning into periodontitis, Tang says. “If you are a smoker or a diabetic, you tend to be at much higher risk.” Having a family history of gum disease or early tooth loss can also play a role. If you have any of these risk factors, “you need to address periodontal disease proactively,” she adds.
How to Prevent Serious Gum Disease
Clearly, you want to catch gingivitis before it becomes periodontitis, says Angelo Mariotti, PhD, doctor of dental surgery and chair of the division of periodontology at the Ohio State University College of Dentistry in Columbus. That requires a three-pronged approach:
Practice Good Oral Hygiene
Your gum disease prevention regimen starts with brushing twice a day and flossing regularly. “Use a soft tooth brush and be gentle when brushing,” Tang says. “Foods tend to get caught along the gum line between the gum and tooth. Angle the brush towards your gum line and loosen the debris using a small, circular motion. Be very gentle and sweep away from the gum line.”
Tang says it’s okay to scrub a bit on the chewing surfaces of your teeth, just not along the gum line. If you brush too aggressively, you can overdo it and wear away your tooth enamel or cause your gums to recede.
Flossing helps remove debris left after brushing. “Most periodontal disease occurs in between your teeth, not as much on the brushing surface,” says Peter Loomer, MD, chair of periodontology and implant dentistry at NYU College of Dentistry in New York City. “That’s why it’s so critical to floss in between.” Dr. Loomer says your dentist can train you how to floss properly. “If you’re not taught, you [may not] do an effective job,” he explains.
Reduce your risk
“Talk to your dentist about controlling your risk factors,” says Dr. Mariotti. If you smoke, an increased risk of gum disease is another reason to quit. A healthy diet can help prevent gum disease and keep your whole body healthy. “Hard crunchy foods like carrots are great for cleaning teeth surfaces and removing debris,” Tang says. “Chewing sugarless gum after eating also gets saliva flowing and helps wash debris around your teeth away.” Minimize how much sugar you consume, and eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
See the dentist regularly
The dentist is your partner in good oral health and preventing gum disease. But according to an analysis published in December 2016 in the journal Health Affairs, Americans are more likely to skip regular dental care than other types of healthcare. Early gum disease generally doesn’t hurt or produce symptoms, Mariotti says. So, it can progress for years if you’re not seeing your dentist routinely. A dentist can monitor your gums over time to see how they change. Most people should see their dentist twice a year for a checkup and cleaning to remove the tartar (calcified plaque) from your teeth. “You can’t brush off plaque,” Loomer says. “It has to be removed with special instruments.”
