i just finished kuramerukagari and I LOVED every second of it i have so so so many thoughts i am just going crazy rn i can't believe it. iseya was so great i also did not know when eiwajima entered the movie but for some i reason i felt it minutes before and watched the whole scene chanting eiwajima

ALSO I LOVED KAGARI AND YUYA. kagari is such a lovely child and i loved her seeing her, yuya SHOULD GIVE HIS GENDER TO ME.

and iseya was talking iseyamese for the whole movie. i could open any volume of durarara and find similiar or exact words he is using which is like. totally expected of course i am not suprised this is narita and izaya after all but still seeing it firsthand made me scream more because !!!!!!!!

and shizaya/eiwaseya IS SO REAL. i was laughing at "they fucked at that library omg" before I watched it but WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT SEXUAL TENSION BETWEEN THEM IN THAT SCENE. the air was so thick that I COULD FEEL IR FROM THE SCREEN THESE BITCHES GAAAY GOOD FOR THEM GOOD FOR THEM

i waited one whole. fucking. week for this and you know what. it was worth it. IT WAS SO WOOORTH THE WAITING I AM SO GLAD I WATCHED IT.

My current job is pretty laidback about us having phones out and listening to music as we work sorting archaeological artifacts in a lab, so I've started binge-rewatching Durarara!! from the very beginning.

I've already finished the original run yesterday and just started x2 Shou, but some thoughts I had:

At least in the anime adaptation, the original run was meant to be pretty self-contained in the event they weren't able to continue (which to be fair was true for quite a while before x2 got greenlit), so rather than consider the original run a "phase one" of Izaya's grander scheme to start a gang war and awaken Celty's head it makes a bit more sense to think of it in the context of a failed first attempt.

In that context, it makes me wonder how he felt about it, his first grand failure. Grand enough that he felt the need to step back and lay low so he could go back to the drawing board (see: his initial conversation with Shizuo in ep 25).

I honestly bet he picked a fight with Shizuo just to take out his frustrations on it all. He managed to create a messy three-way conflict and get Celty roped into it as Anri and Mikado's friend, but the head gave narry a stir. Not to mention, Celty was able to help them resolve things pretty easily by just getting these dumb kids to actually talk to each other.

I don't remember the episode number because I just binged the whole thing, but Shingen at one point suggests that rather than rope Celty into a conflict, Izaya should try to center the conflict around Celty herself. Izaya claimed he was doing just that, but I don't think he really succeeded in the initial run. Sure, Celty was involved, but more as an independent third (fourth?) party than as a focal point. She was in the Dollars and friends with both Anri and Mikado, but she didn't really have much of a stake in the squabble itself. That was just a big messy of miscommunication between three high schoolers completely unrelated to her. That must have been frustrating, honestly, getting so close but falling just short of what he needed.

Then, on top of everything else, he wasn't even really involved in the resolution of the fight itself, either. He says in his theory that he needs to create a war only HE can win, right? I'd imagine that's why he was fucking around with a bunch of kids rather than the bigger leagues like the Yakuza that he works with regularly: it's a lot easier to insert yourself as an authority as the only adult. He'd be able to take control of that situation so easily, but Celty took that role instead, so he never even got a chance to win the war.

And to blow off steam from his initial failure, what does he do? He deliberately picks a fight with Shizuo, someone he generally tries to avoid when he can help it, by fucking with his brother's safety.

I wonder if he needed to feel alive for a minute by reminding himself of the loom of death. Shizuo's arguably the only one that actually threatens Izaya enough to feel any sense of awe or dread. I wonder if he wanted to put himself in that position to remind himself what was at stake and give him the motivation to go back to the drawing board and try again. He really does have a Shizuo Complex in that sense.

Anyway, I might do Shou, Ten, and Ketsu individually as I finish them, but if anyone would prefer a liveblog instead, lmk. I might stop at Shou for now, tho, because Wa-kun and I are I thiiiink like halfway through Ten? And I don't wanna spoil them with my rambling.

kasururi headcanons pt. 2

ruri is the official Jar Opener of the house. yes because she's strong af, but also because kasuka has weak hands. and even if she didnt have her powers, she'd still have to do it.

they have separate bedrooms and different sleeping schedules (ruri sleeps during the day and kasuka during the night). although they do try to sleep together most of the time, usually in kasuka's room since he's more used to sharing space with others.

at the very beginning of them starting to live together, since they're both so quiet, they would accidentally scare each other off constantly. (MOSTLY kasuka appearing out of nowhere and freaking the fuck out of ruri who is always very deep in thought.)

they both SUCK at cooking. but it is fine because they're rich and they dont need to do all of that.

on top of that, I also feel that they eat very differently. kasuka has a preference for plain simple meals, and ruri likes things with more spice and flavor.

non-verbal communication game is STRONG. some may think it's telepathy, others, autism.

cats (and felines in general) are kasuka's special interest. at first ruri's impression of this was "oh, he really likes cats. that's cute :)" and then after a few sessions of uninterrupted infodumping it was, "wow... he likes cats a lot"

monsters (and horror in general) are ruri's special interest. at first kasuka's impression of this was "wow, it is so interesting how knowledgeable she is on this subject." and then after a few sessions of uninterrupted infodumping it was, "alright... she likes horror movies a lot"

kasuka sneaks up movie quotes in real life conversations all the time, he thinks this is something normal to do and most people dont catch up on that. the issue is ruri has actually seen almost the same movies as him and she's always able to tell, and call him out.

kasuka didn't listen to ANY music before meeting ruri. and yes those first car rides were quiet and awkward as fuck. but since ruri started to be in charge of the aux, he finally developed a music tastes and yes, it is just all of ruri's favorite artists. (i can make a playlist of artists i think ruri would listen to if you ask very nicely)

Day 7 Promise

"Shizu-chan? Do you want to grow old with me?" Izaya asked.

They had been relaxing on the couch. Izaya had been rambling about his human loving nonsense while Shizuo mindlessly rubbed his calves.

"What?" Shizuo asked.

Izaya raised his head to look at him. There was a mix of concern in his gaze. "I asked if you wanted to grow old with me?"

Shizuo looked away and frowned. "I guess."

It was Izaya's turn to frown. "You guess? You mean you don't know?"

Shizuo rolled his eyes. "The fuck does it matter?!"

Izaya's lip curled in a snarl. "I guess it doesn't. I guess you don't really love me and all of this is happening until you get bored and move on."

Shizuo shook his head. "What are you talking about?"

Izaya sat up and glared at him. "Why are you being an idiot!?"

"You're serious?" Shizuo couldn't believe they were having this conversation. Their future was obvious. "Shit." He muttered while pushing Izaya away.

"Wh-?" Izaya started to question him but Shizuo cut him off with a snapped "SHUT UP."

He moved to one knee in front of Izaya. "Give me your damn hand." Izaya refused. Shizuo grabbed it anyway. "Look, it doesn't matter how we see our future because we're both in it together."

Izaya blushed as he looked at their hands.

"I thought that was obvious. Apparently not. So, I'll tell you this once. It doesn't matter if it's this lifetime or the next. I will always find you, hunt you down to the ends of the earth. There will never be a universe or whatever with JUST Izaya. It will always be Shizuo AND Izaya. Forever and that's a damn promise."

Izaya starred at their hands for a long time before speaking. "Wow..."

Shizuo let go and put his hands on his hips. "Understand? Feel better?"

Izaya rubbed the back of his head. "Wow Shizu-chan. That was a lot of big words for a protozan. Tell me, do you think your an idiot in all universes?"

"HAH?!" Shizuo shouted.

"What a pathetic sap you are. Who knew?" Izaya grinned at him.

"You fucker!" Shizuo growled and grabbed him.

They fought, they kissed and in the end they went outside to sit on their swing.

Shizuo had an arm around his flea, grinning ear to ear. "God I can't wait to grow old with you and see how brittle your bones get."

"And I can't wait to see how much of your body has fallen apart from all the abuse you give it." Izaya smiled back.

"Shizuo this is too small!" Izaya argued.

"Oh shut up. Your so small and you'll shrink soon anway!" Shizuo patter him on the head.

"What do you mean soon! I'm only twenty one!" Izaya shot back.

Shizuo rolled his eyes. "You'll be saying that till the day you die huh?"

Izaya smirked at him. "Of course. I'm forever twenty-one. I promise to always annoy you with that fact too."

light novel reread, vol. 2 ch. 6: sword and stress

i LOVE THIS CHAPTER. i love this chapter. i have so much to say but i have no clue how much of it is intelligent whatsoever.

it has what could be one of my favorite yasuda illustrations of all time as the chapter cover. i LOVE him. look at him. i can't believe he isnt more popular. do you guys know about him. has he been posted on tumblr yet. ill post him again as his own post because i love him so fucking much.

this is the first instance of shizuo's point of view. i. cannot stress enough how much i love him.

shizaya people, i get it. this is blatantly homoerotic. my toxic trait is loving when media is unintentionally queercoded. like youre wrote them that way dont get mad at me

i love haruna, honestly. she's kind of a stereotypical yandere side character, but she's also the perfect foil to nasujima.

this chapter does so much for both anri and shizuo. this is my favorite chapter in the 2nd novel, i think.

nasujima is such a scumbag and the fact that he 100% gets what he deserves is just so satisfying. insert mikados rant where hes like "i LIKE happy endings! i LIKE cliches!".

this is a turning point for anri. i like anri a lot, but i feel like i'm going to end up really loving her as she gets some actual development in the novels.

this is the moment that anri accepts herself as a wielder of saika, i think. i really wish i could see this reveal for the first time again.

first of all. sad little wet puppy of a man. i love him so so so fucking dearly. ive said it before but i love shizuo on like. a level amount as i do shinra. i LOVE shizuo. shinras just my blorbo because i have a long standing obsession with very normal looking and pathetic men. another toxic trait im afraid 😔 second of all, im really dissapointed that narita chose to say there was "no one in his vicinity" and make a random homophobic aside about izaya (and not even that they hate each other. that izaya is a man), rather than acknowledge that shizuo already receives love and has people in his life who have already been shown to care about him but currently isnt able to accept it. in the first two novels, it's already been established that he's incredibly close to tom, who's stuck with shizuo since middle school, that him and simon think well of each other despite simon's strong pacifist personality, that he's been friends with shinra since he was like five years old, and that he and celty are each other's best friends, not to mention that his family is supportive and loves him unconditionally, especially kasuka. it's just lazy/bad writing to say shizuo is unlovable and then follow that with a passage about him believing "he wasn't allowed to have love for anyone".

narita: this man is a freak. hes a monster hes unlovable. narita, writing celty immediately after: this freak is SO cool. i fucking love this guy

as president of the shizuo and celty are best friend fanclub, this screenshot is something that can be so precious to me, personally, (its saved on my laptop as badass dude)
