hi we started spirit of justice which is already full of bullshit but we realized we missed the daddy dialogue in dual destinies and the ONLY clip of it online provided. zero context.
like it gave us the exchange. but. uh. WHY. did phoenix just. call him daddy. why. i thought there'd be a bit of dialogue with 'mommy metis' and that's how we got to 'daddy' but no.
he just.
says.
yes, daddy.....?
are we just collectively going with the fact that phoenix addresses miles in court as 'daddy'
what
am i missing

Ok Juniper woods is NOT claiming to have designed this is she?
Cos that’s not her design. That’s literally Lamiror’s stage costume from the last game.
I’m shocked Apollo hasn’t called her out.

Sorry for using plvspw as an excuse to shit on Dual Destinies but I love how much better plvspw pulled off the "ally turns into witness for the prosecution" thing compared to Dual Destinies like it doesn't even come close. Luke makes sense and it makes me feel really bad for him. Apollo came out of nowhere and it makes me want to punch him in the face.
Probably due to the fact that a) Luke is a child and Apollo is an adult who should know how to regulate his emotions, b) Luke and Layton have been together this entire game and we didn't even know about Clay aside from the occassional "I have a friend who works in NASA" until he got murdered and c) Luke is an ACTUAL WITNESS and Apollo just decided to show up and talk about his bracelet and how that means Athena stabbed someone.

oh your currently watching dual destinies case 4? I thought you didnt want to get to the second trilogy bubble like last month ago? What changed that mindset?
i actually lied a little, it's not me who's watching it. i don't have time right now to sit down and watch a full gameplay because of school and stuff, but i am watching my friend xy liveblog! they're sending screenshots of funny moments and generally explaining the plot so i guess you can say im living vicariously through them.
i'm going to be honest: i didn't want to watch the second trilogy purely because of aa4. my other friends who were into the series told me i likely wouldn't enjoy what they did to phoenix even though they think i would like apollo very much. and they were Right. xy was a brave soul and powered through the game to get context for aa5 and aa6 (which we were excited about because yippee old man yaoi!), so my friend group all ended up really liking apollo justice (the guy) as expected. still we were all salty at what they did to phoenix even though the game turned out to be pretty great in a bubble
i had always intended to check out dual destinies and spirit of justice regardless, i was just too scared to pass through the threshold that was apollo justice ace attorney. and now that we all agreed to just pretend the game was set in an alternate universe where phoenix had no friends for whatever fucking reason we're enjoying the second trilogy much more. i hope this makes sense

WHAT HTE FUCK. WHSTT ETHE FUCK.
this case is doing irreparable damage to my soul like actually what the fuck just happened. what is going on. we literally just systematically proved athena’s guilt and it actually gets WORSE because there was no way for apollo to know about this lighter but he was suspicious of athena anyway, from the beginning, which means there’s STILL other evidence pointing to her, conclusive enough for apollo to start seriously suspecting somebody so close to him (though to be fair maybe he’s a bit easier to convince considering how fast he turned on kristoph in turnabout trump)
like holy shit i’m…… really invested in this lol, the space center is a great setting and the miracle space launch seven years ago is really interesting and well executed. and the way it ties into the theme of trauma is just….. ouugh it’s chefs kiss. the mystery itself has been really fun to pick apart so far as well. aura blackquill is……. kind of an obvious culprit….. like she literally has her own special evil theme and some very unsubtle ‘kick the dog’ moments, as well as a clear connection to whatever happened w/ blackquill’s conviction, but an obvious culprit isn’t always a bad thing if done right. also psychelocks came back yay :]
and there are so many characters to have conflicting feelings about — starbuck who is likable and obviously innocent but there’s definitely something up with the incident seven years ago, yuri cosmos who is kind of a piece of shit but he was really trying to do the right thing by switching the launch pads, blackquill and athena and apollo HOW DO I EVEN START WITH THEM……… the urge to trust blackquill because he knows more about this than we do and what is a good AA prosecutor for if we can’t trust them, but fulbright’s worries casting doubts on him………. athena with the evidence stacked against her and only difficult decisions ahead for how we can prove her innocence….. and apollo who HAS to be in the wrong but he’s acting out of anger and grief and betrayal because he’s been let down over and over again by the people he trusts and now it’s happened again in the one place he actually felt safe………………. fuuuuuck dude. just. fuck.
i really hope they stick the landing with this final case because they’re promising a LOT here…. without shu takumi’s writing and judging off the disappointing flop that was turnabout succession (i’m sorry apollo but your game wasn’t that good ToT) i’m a liiitttle nervous. but i’m just gonna try to turn my critique brain off and enjoy this last case and keep optimistic
