Heya Miss Cam! What are your thoughts on the finale - (1) Snowing wise (2) Series Wise as a whole? And will u tune in to S7? (tho I pretty noe the ans to that 🙊) U noe, after that last Henry scene, I kinda felt that I have OUAT fatigue - like I don't want to go through this all over again; a reset, a reboot, an expansion. I just feel that I had enough. Maybe deep down inside me I feel that there's no way they're gonna top that. Not too sure if anyone felt the same way.
I have a lot of thoughts on everything, but I’ll try to sum them up as best I can.For Snowing, I think the finale was pretty good, actually. They had one last TLK and finding each other moment, paralleling the pilot. (And I love that scene so much even if TLK didn’t use to cure actual injuries, but hey.) They gave hope to others and each other. They got to have baby Neal with them on an adventure. They had a happy beginning that makes sense for their characters - Charming has his farm, Snow has her teaching, and most importantly, they have each other and their family. They can raise baby Neal, be in Emma’s life and enjoy their love for each other. Romance, family and pursuing individual interests at the same time, what more can you ask for? (With the occasional adventure, I’m pretty sure, because they are Snow and Charming and they can’t help themselves.)So I think they had a good ending. I will always be put off by how the show treated them - and the Charming family dynamic - in the latter seasons, starting with how Snow Falls was “redone” in the S3 finale, the sidelining and character assasination of S4, how they (and Henry, though not as badly) were sidelined in Emma’s arc, how their storylines so often seemed an afterthought to everything else in S5, how S6 had some nice moments and a promising start, but then they got pretty much forgotten about for half of S6. A year of Snowing it was not - half a year of some Snowing, maybe? The way the sleeping curse was dragged out, how Charming’s storyline about his father was so extremely rushed at the end and then wasn’t even about Charming in the end… No. I am not pleased how the writers have treated Snow and Charming in the last few seasons. They’ve had moments and some storylines I’ve enjoyed, but in general, I am not happy with the writing. But the ending was good for them. That I am happy about. I smile whenever I rewatch their scenes in the finale - their determination to fight even if things looked hopeless, the lovely TLK moment and ensuing dialogue and smooching, the way Charming leans his forehead against Snow as the magic is about to hit them, the reunion with Emma, Snow’s last hope speech, welcome to the Charmings’, a glimpse of everyday life with so much happiness (AND WILBY), partaking in a family dinner. Yeah. That’s my jam.As for how the finale worked as an ending for the show in general… Hmm. It did have a lot of good moments for almost all the characters, which I do think works in its favor. To name some things: Henry and Emma’s relationship came back to the forefront, which was lovely, cos that one has also been sidelined a lot. Emma’s final act as a savior was saving a life, which does echo the “save a life, save the world” sort of thinking, and I am actually okay with that. Belle got her baby back, which I am happy about, even if the finale sadly did sideline her too much. This show and Belle… Ugh. (I also wasn’t on board with her and Rumple back together just like that, because to me the damage done to their relationship in S4 and S6 would just need a lot more mending, if it was even possible. But this show always enjoys pulling things apart more than putting them back together, so no surprises there.) Rumple made a right choice despite strong temptations to the contrary, which I hope will lead him to continue to make right choices. The Evil Queen had a moment of selflessness and sacrifice after all she had done in S6. Henry got to be brave and clever and looked great with his grandfather’s sword. Everyone having dinner as a family at the end was heartwarming. Plus several other moments I enjoyed. So the finale had lots of stuff I did like. Unfortunately, it also suffered from what OUAT often suffers from - pace. So much was rushed, while other things were dragged out. So much was not explained. Why would Emma’s lack of belief kill off worlds now, since it never did in the past? (Maybe the BF’s curse linked those two together somewhow, but if so, EXPLAIN IT SHOW.) Why can TLK now curse deadly injuries? What would happen to the Dark Realm and all the children the BF supposedly kept there? How exactlly would this curse give the BF the power to break the laws of magic? (EXPLAIN IT SHOW) I could go on. I think that I ultimately found the finale mostly emotionally satisfying, cos it left the characters (mostly) in a good place, but definitely far less satisfying if I just look at it logically. As for S7… No, I have no current plans to watch it. If it gets good feedback, I may reconsider, but no plans for now. I guess like you, I feel like it will be more of the same just with new characters, and well…  My issues with OUAT has often been with the writing, and the two lead writers are still there. I mainly kept watching because of Snow and Charming, and with them out, I don’t have that incentive to watch. If they come back for an episode or two, I’ll watch that. If OUAT ends after S7, maybe I’ll bingewatch it at some point just to see how it turned out. Maybe. But I do get what you mean about fatigue - maybe this is a good time to let it go, if you feel like that, and let this be how the show ended for you.But everyone has to figure out for themselves if they want to give the new version a shot. It could end up being a good thing for the writing, but it could also end up suffering from the same writing issues as OUAT 1.0. I don’t know. Time will tell.
