Majima's freedom and Kiryu's naivety
So, Kiryu has a way of coping with his social difficulties by adopting strict rules and beliefs to guide himself through human interactions. This helps him out a lot, but also makes him very resistant to change and hard-headed sometimes. And sometimes even cruel.
Like, for instance, let's take Majima. Kiryu really admires him, and trusts him, and believes that Majima is very capable and can handle anything life throws his way. And technically this is super sweet, and amazing, but Kiryu believes it so wholeheartedly that it becomes cruel naivety.
And one of the first times we properly see this is in Kiwami, in the scene on the pier. After helping Kiryu out big time all through the story and in that momrnt, Majima got shot in the stomach, and fell into the freezing December waters of the Tokyo Bay. And Kiryu sees this and just… leaves. He has more pressing matters to deal with. Majima-san will be fine, he's Majima-san, after all. He can survive anything. Even swimming out of cold waters alone while bleeding his guts out, apparently (oh, the desire to punch Kiryu in that moment, we could barely contain it).
And in our playthrough this happened almost right after we finished Majima Everywhere, so it was twice as gutpunchy of a dick move.
Nevermind that Majima survived this. Of course he did, that's all he does in his life when he's pressed against the wall (or depth of the ocean). The point is that he shouldn't be put in these situations, especially by people he trusts.
(This thing with Kiryu thinking that Majima can handle anything and doesn't need any help at all will keep going on and on in the future, each time becoming more and more of a shitty thing pull. It includes things like, let's say, making Majima come back to Tojo in y3, leaving him to deal with the Nishikiyama family, and so on. But there's bit more to it at play than naïve beliefs by that point, We'll get to it in time.)
And yes, this was a long winded intro to saying that Majima had all the rights to be pissed at Kiryu after that and ram the bathhouse with the truck at full speed. It seems that he threatened the girl there just for show. He talked politely to her and let her go immediately when she said she's in love with someone.
Kiryu deserved this ass whooping, 100%.
(We also strongly believe that after this incident Majima bought Shangri-La. Like, both the building and the business. But, since it was connected to unpleasant memories and he just really didn't like the place, Majima left it as it is. Didn't touch it at all since then)
(And this is why even as far as y6 Shangri-La is still standing there, boarded up, empty, the place where the truck hit the building still clearly visible and only getting more decrepit with age)
So, anyways, Kiryu and Majima don't see each other for a bit after that. Majima has time to cool off, think about it more… and then news come in. Shimano is dead, and in an indirect way he's dead because of Kiryu. Shimano who put Majima through the worst hell and then back. Shimano who Majima stayed with, even after all that, pretending to be unruly and free. Shimano, who Majima was unable to break away from, almost freezing each time he was around. It's been over a decade of mad dog barking on a leash. And then bam, Shimano is gone. Thanks (somewhat) to Kiryu.
Imagine what this does to a man. To Majima. After all these years. After Majima Everywhere.
And he sends Kiryu this text.
Tumblr media
And it is already a lot. But with this context, knowing the story of y0, I doubt my or Majima's heart will ever be still.
He'll need some time to process all this. To really grasp that he is really truly free now. To realise that Kiryu somehow helped him get his freedom. To understand what being free even means.
So Majima will not be available, will be out of it for a while afterwards. Missing the finale of the game and some context.
But, get this, there’s even more – later everyone learns that Kiryu didn't kill Dojima. And, see, Majima already kinda made his peace with it. He had to live for 10 years knowing Kiryu, with all his big words about honour and not murdering people, still did it. For whatever reason he had, it doesn't matter. He got down from his idealistic horse and got dirty like the rest of them.
And it's not like Majima cared. Not like it meant something to him, this small corner of his heart that sorta maybe felt good seeing Kiryu stubbornly prevail with his beliefs intact even in the most gruesome places. Whatever, amaright? Majima is fine. He moved on, and can still appreciate Kiryu's company even with this smal pang of something not being the same anymore.
And then. It turns out Kiryu never stained his hands with blood. At all. He went through prison to help his brother, not that this sounds familiar to Majima, and-
Majima will be processing all this for a while.

“ we can not choose what fate has in store for us; how we mold the universe is dictated by our own hands. and their consequences determined by our own actions. we can not choose where our birthright starts, but where it ends. ”
dainty digits extend outward. both palms simultaneously take in Majima’s, and stacks one atop the other. purposely aligning their engagement rings together as symbolism for her next statement.
“ and as humans thrive, prosper and persevere—able to shape their own destiny. to become another footnote in history’s texts. their stories will be retold to the up and coming generation of yakuza. regardless how it began, your story will undoubtedly make an impact upon this underground lifestyle. for better or for worse, it will become a source of inspiration to those who look up to you. amidst it all, i endeavor to continue being apart of goro majima’s autobiography. ”
unprompted asks // accepting ! // @cogiita
Tumblr media
❝ how is it ya always know what's buggin' me ? ❞
furrowing his eyebrows, somehow cogita always knew what was up with him, he began to wonder if she had what they called psychic powers. she was just really good at figuring things out. he had told her about his family sometime ago when she had asked, told her as much as he could remember ... wanted to remember. he told her how he wants to fuck his dad up for ruining his life, but really ? had the man really ruined his life ?
if none of this had happened, majima likely would have never become a yakuza. he'll been a businessman, ceo to one of the top insurance companies, he would have lived a very comfortable life. a boring life in majima's opinion. he wouldn't trade anything for the life he had now. being yakuza ... it wasn't a traditional job in the sense, especially when one was in as high position that he was in. he didn't have to do any work besides keeping his family in check, & advising the sixth chairman, anything majima decided to do, was stuff he didn't trust anyone else with. but more importantly, he never realised to the day he started running about with that biker gang, how much he enjoyed fighting.
a sport he was never really allowed to do by his parents, they considered it barbaric, even know they were barbaric themselves in their fights with each other. but majima could understand their wording, he was barbaric in fights, using a steel baseball bat ... he's killed many with that weapon alone, never mind his favoured knife. something his boss gave him as a welcoming gift. he's even killed with his bare hands.
Tumblr media
hands held, majima looked down to see their engagement rings entwined each other, as if they were real snakes cuddled, & about to mate with each other. he looked back up into cogita's eye, her eye on his.
an autobiography ? who would want to read that ? no one in this lifestyle valued reading that much to read something so random as an autobiography. though, majima guessed when he eventually passed, there would be a lot of media surrounding it. there was enough media surrounding his false death, never mind when it actually does happen. he's legendary, everyone knows it in this lifestyle. the mad dog of the tojo clan ; though, he isn't really that much of a mad dog any more, he's definitely mellowed down, got more serious as he has aged. ever since kiryu entrusted him with daigo that he learned, kiryu considered a son ... majima has done his best in pointing the kid in the right directions. they had their ups & downs for sure, but it was never nothing the two didn't learn from.
majima would have never thought it ... that he'll been in such an important position, he always expected to be long dead by now. he never expected to have his own family under his name, he never even expected to have a fiance again.
Tumblr media
❝ i dunno how ya figure it out, babe ... but yea, i'm proud o' what i've accomplished ... 'sides, ya ever look at me, n' go, yea, he could definitely be a ceo of an insurance company ? with a normal as fuck life, no fun allowed sorta thing ? man, i'll sooner die o' boredom if that was my life, fucker who my old man was ... i wish i coulda been the one to have ended him y'know ? left me, n' my momma fer dead, wish i coulda seen my momma 'fore she got axed 'pparently. she was as much o' a victim as i was. ❞

Ship that you secretly like: 💚
Ehm. Well, I don't know how much I'll regret being honest here, but I'll go into problematic territory here. Don't open the read more if you hate age gaps, abusive/unhealthy ships, and ships that make you go "what the fuck is wrong with you?". I guess it also counts for the 💦 question.
One is Sagamaji from Yakuza. As soon as I was introduced to Sagawa, my brain went like "oh, so Sagawa has complete power over Majima, mhh? And Majima would endure anything to get back to the family, mmh? 👀"
Not a cute ship at all :p it's all about that good power imbalance, dehumanization (hey, it's the series itself that keeps calling Majima a mad dog, it comes with the territory) and Majima being secretly into being used. Sometimes. Sometimes he's just abused and he hates it. Well, in the game they also eventually come to respect each other, but I guess nobody cares about that part. Still, there are plenty of delicious, if repetitive, fics about Sagawa rescuing Majima from the Hole and the screwed, dependent relationship that follows. (Sagawa is a patronizing slimy piece of shit and I love him so much)
The other, the big one, is... Sonegg. Boom Sonegg more than games Sonegg. Well, games could still work, but not without some serious canon manipulation, like making Sonic older for starters (definitely, obviously mandatory here).
You know how I go on and on about muh dynamic and muh chemistry? Well, I happen to love Sonic and Eggman's relationship :p The two have similar personality traits, even though they're polar opposite in many regards. Eggman loves power, and few people are more powerful than Sonic; Sonic loves danger, and who's more dangerous than the good old doc? And Sonic definitely likes his rivalry with Eggman: he will stop him no matter what, but he gives the impression that he fights Eggman for fun more than duty. The two have been facing each other since before Sonic met Tails! That's a deep level of knowing each other.
Again, not a cute ship full of love, more like one of tension, playing, "I hate you but I can't be without you", that sort of thing.
Well, of course, in canon Eggman would rather fuck Sonic up, than to fuck him up without the "up". Canon Eggman needs Sonic far less than Sonic could need Eggman, and even that is a stretch. That's fair and that's not to be underestimated. Not to worry, that's where the Boomverse comes into play!
Their dynamic in the show is very different than in canon: not only Eggman is more of an insecure bully than a genuine danger (although he has his moments of cunning and manipulation), not only he and Sonic are basically frenemies, but... How do I put this...
youtube
(we were distracted by the endless Sonamy teasing, but Eggman deadass said Sonic has rocking good looks and we all ignored it smh)
When in the first episode, Eggman swoons at the idea of becoming Sonic's sidekick, with a tone that doesn't feel as ironic as it should... Well one starts to think. And Sonic is... strangely touchy, especially for a version of the character that's supposed to be a grumpy loner 👀
Oh, and Sonic is, to borrow an obnoxious modern fandom term, adult coded :) He could definitely pass for someone in his 20s! And while I love my 20/50 age gap when it comes to fucked up ships (i may have a type...), the fun thing is that you barely feel it with Sonic and Eggman. Eggman doesn't use his age to prey on Sonic or abuse him, they're completely equal, that's the whole point :) hell Eggman is the immature one! (well okay Sonic doesn't exactly shine in the maturity department... Yeah they're equals. Sidenote, I can't stand when people pull the age gap without considering everything about the characters in question. Some Steven Universe ships were hit really hard by this narrowmindness)
So yeah, obviously this is not only one hell of a rareship, but one that you cannot mention outside of a joke because everyone and their mother throws up in their mouth at the mere thought. It's a shame because I think Boom Sonegg could be cute as well as hilarious, definitely more wholesome than canon lol. It's rare to find earnest content, but when I do, boy am I fed, and I'd better be because I won't find any new content for a month at best. Oh well. I may be cringe, but I am free.

HoloServer Quarterly Report
Usada Constructions - Buy
To understand the current position of UsaKen, we must look to its history. At first, UsaKen was a joke, a riff on Majima Constructions, a potemkin company only existing to serve the whims of the founder and CEO. Pekora’s project was sophisticated and massive, her pranks simply legendary. But out of the blue, Moona enters. The mutual awkwardness worked in their favor, in fact this will be a prevailing theme, what might seem like a highly dysfunctional group, actually turns the whole thing into strength.
The Rabbit and Moon theme didn’t hurt them either, and the idea of Usada Construction as an actual entity enters the public consciousness, especially as a point of comparison to the fledgling Akukin Constructions… although it could be said that Akukin was the remnant of Hololive Resistance in some sense. This led to the initial expansion with the hiring of Coco and Kiara… but again this was more of a joke, a fleeting thought before UsaKen was about to come on its own.
It was the Akukin Relay that really set the ball rolling. Not only did we have the fortuitous event of Kanata accepting a position in UsaKen before finding out she did get a callback from Akukin, it spurred Pekora into focusing on Minecraft, especially her gaming plans were dirtied by corporate pressure. Pekora started small, with her misbehaving cannon and putting out her petty anger onto Noel, but soon Pekora unveiled her grand plan, Pekoland, and immediately set out to organize the company as a whole.
By now, the company was fairly-sized. It added Botan and eventually Towa into the mix, although Botan is still technically an affiliate and Towa first came with revenge, before using the company as an opportunity to learn how to be evil. Now the company measured seven strong, although they were quite disparate, having members from all three branches and across three generations. This was quickly noticed and a discord server was made in response, which led to another group project immediately after Pekoland, which was already a pretty big project. Combined with Coco’s final innovation, the Summer Festival became an even bigger project in the end.
And it would be odd to think this would end soon. There’s an actual structure to things now, people can communicate and build on ideas and the whole thing seems pretty democratic, even with its autocratic start. And Summer Festival brought UsaKen into the center of Hololive narrative. UsaKen is now the de facto face of HoloServer, and perhaps even Hololive itself. People look at the former loner as the master organizer. Things only look up from here, which is worrisome, but there’s enough in UsaKen that I’m less worried than usual. UsaKen will always come out stronger in the end.
Akukin Constructions - Buy
Meanwhile, Akukin completely collapsed. It felt like Aqua would return from her Apex marathon, but it turns out prior and prep for the solo concert meant a month break is what she needed, therefore Akukin was without a leader for one more month.
Lamy and Nene managed with their own projects, but the rest kind of fell apart. But the Summer Festival changed all that. Just as Akukin Relay signalled Pekora a restructuring was needed, Summer Festival meant Akukin had to show up. So, the skit continued. During the Akukin Relay arc, the mysterious yet feisty boss with two second-in-command who actually runs the thing scheming and fretting was a hit, with a hint of blackness in its blasted scaffoldings. Now, the blackness is very much apparent. Aqua cannot let the failing company go, and has become vicious. Considering Marine's past, this works to their favor. Lamy and Nene would be their own thing. Roboco and Mel would pop in now and again. As for Iofi and Aki… well, I’m not sure.
Choco, which I deemed the liaison for Shiranui, which has a contractual relationship with Akukin, now liaisons for Oozora Group as well. Choco might be the next important person just because of that connection factor. Akukin might be a contracting company now, although Aqua would not be happy about where they stand now.
Oozora Group - Hold
I know that Oozora Constructions, now Oozora Group, is not a publicly traded company anymore, but I still suggest holding onto that now-worthless piece of paper. The problem with Oozora Constructions was that its story went nowhere. Korone’s house was interesting, but it rarely had an ending, since it required Korone to cooperate and that’s usually an awkward thing at best. Her other projects were half-baked, and most importantly Subaru never really had that recognition. She wanted to build a company but others laughed at the prospect. So Rushia lost faith and moved to UsaKen. Oozora was tanking before it started to fly. But Matsuri took grace and joined Oozora, at which point it became a group. It’s not like Matsuri and Luna, the other employee, haven’t been together, and Subaru was called Matsuri by Sora, so why not?
In the last report, I said Matsuri is more like a government employee than a free agent, and indeed it seems Oozora Group now acts like a governmental organization, with building a police station being the first undertaking after restructuring. This is actually not bad. Public utilities are dearly needed in HoloServer anyways, and Subaru acting as a public servant removes the desperation in her actions that would make interactions much more friendly and interesting. By falling, Subaru might have turned a corner.
Tangent - Using an extended analogy, when the age of giant reptiles was wiped out by a meteorite, there were small survivors, which we now know as birds. So, it looks like Coco’s legacy would also be held by birds, holotoris to be exact. To explain why, let’s look at the current functional part of Coco. Coco is the bridge that connects East to the West, not just in terms of language, but also in culture and mores. In that way, holotoris nicely distributes this responsibility. Subaru might be the best JP member after Haachama in terms of English comprehension, and she is quite cognizant of recent foreign perspectives as well… so she could be a good future ambassador. For Reine, her Indonesian teaching stream reminds me of Coco’s early streams. And Kiara’s Holotalk has been the counterweight to Coco’s meme review since it started… Not to mention, these three are the most extroverted of their respective branches.
Shiranui-Elite Conglomerate - Hold
SEC is an organization of my own creation, but it’s a useful one, because it fits the current situation well. To sum up, Elite Construction was starting to fall apart as Minecraft activities waned, one of the replacements was GTA V, and the three major players were Miko, Flare and Suisei. Their collab together was probably the highlight of the last quarter and gave us a bright spot during a time of troubles.
As Minecraft activities increased, due to PekoLand and HoloID mall and Mel and Roboco popping in and out, the connection before was starting to bore out in Minecraft. Shiranui was originally a contracting company, working with Akukin for example. Therefore it had a family business type, indeed the only other employee was an honorary one given to Flare’s wife, Noel. But a series of interactions with Polka and Choco led to this master and apprentice relationship, which was a major hit.
Flare, pardon the pun, was always the black sheep of the Hololive Fantasy. While the other four have something to stand out and something to back the flash (Pekora draws with her laughter and manic behavior which is backed up by her earnest shyness, Rushia draws from her yandere metal screams which backed up by her sincerity and fragility, Noel draws with her upper assets and ASMR which is backed up by her erogaki silliness and her charming singing, and Marine draws from her horny nature which is backed up by her wit and almost motherly wiseness), Flare never really landed a character. Indeed, Flare is a straight man through and through. Not quite a tsukkomi like Subaru or Kanata at times, since there is not that retorting arrogance the two can exhibit, as people call, Flare was your comfy older sister...
But the Western audience and this Polka relationship changed that. In the West, the fatherly figure has more of a distinct and prominent role, and Flare can emulate this pretty well. A dad is grounded and serious, but can be silly and childish at times. But the silly and childishness does not undercut his serious nature… and that goes well with Flare (perhaps even more so than Calli, who is on a goofier side of things). Therefore Flare could finally breathe and express herself. And the introduction of Miko and Suisei brings the crew into full focus. They are reminiscent of early UsaKen, except while UsaKen was disparate, SEC most closely resembles… well, a D&D party. With your typical silly arguments and trials leading to growth and so on.
Adding Marine or even Nene might disturb this. Flare is fine with the size and I am too. It’s not like there are any real pickings left anyway. Shiranui-Elite conglomeration have a long journey ahead of them, but a brighter future that goes along with it too.
Haachama Construction - Sell (but buy Watasheep)
It was inevitable. Haachama/Haato thing was not going to be settled soon. Haato barely finished the Coexist arc, getting the Anno disease in the process. It was pretty clear that the Haato/Haachama thing became overblown and unfitting to what Hololive was now.
But this leaves us with Watame, and Watame is in an interesting position. Watame is between a lot of companies now. With Shiranui-Elite, she is part of the four heavenly lords, and as Watasheep, she does the delivery of Menya Botan and KFP, both part of UsaKen, who inadvertently cornered the fast-food business. And she is part of the 4th Gen, who has come much closer due to the departure of Coco.
Watame has always made the safe choice, she revolutionized the server with her excellent Janken machine, but it was Kanata who became the seller. Watame might choose to leave herself out, since her Minecraft streams are kind of meant to be relaxing. The reason she deliberately chose to level her field, instead of building the sign outwards like the rest of the signs. So, perhaps nothing comes of this…
OkaKoro Constructions & Shirakami Forestry - Buy
This wave of HoloServer was so large that even the rarer visitors felt a need to visit. Flare has reached out to Okayu, who has pointed out the reason for her absence was the loss of her basement and Korone has followed interest in the server as well.
Fubuki returned to finish her massive sakura tree, of course she acts alone, but she has been increasingly open to hiring people, but it’s not sure if this will become reality. Perhaps if Akukin finally dissolves, there would be enough workforce…
Kureiji Constructions - Buy
Ollie had a roller coaster of three months… Like a burnt fuse, Ollie has had several physical problems… that didn’t stop her from doing math streams (there are precedents Yashiro and Gwelu being good examples) and returning recently with late contributions to the Summer Festival. Reine has been helping on the side as well…
Free Agents - Sell
There is not much of this category anymore. Anya is the One who does not play Minecraft, in fact her demeanor is quite different from anyone else. Ayame not only has been gone from Minecraft, she has been gone, period. She really just returned to streaming after about three weeks? Risu is the only one remotely available, but she has the gene of OkaKoro, which does not induce work ethics in Minecraft, no matter how skilled she is. (Her roller coaster MLG is still one of my favorite clips)
Overall, 2021 Q2 was the best of times and the worst of times. There was a lot of big progress and a lot of setbacks as well. It’s a deeply uncomfortable but adventurous position, as it always has been for HoloServer and HoloPro as a whole. Next quarter will be further accomplishments and further challenges, and the company and the personalities and the audience will bear it through it all, as they always have.

jazz blease,,,, for the character ask,,, mistew majima
i have my suspicions about who this is but also im not 100% sure so i will keep my accusations to myself either way i <3 u anon
How I feel about this character majima my beloved... <3 the first yakuza character i went nuts over. i love him dearly. he lives in my brain
All the people I ship romantically with this character me on my multishipping bullshit: kiryu, saejima, kiryu AND saejima (ultimate ot3 honestly), makoto (had things gone differently)... ive put a little thought into nishiki/majima, especially during the 10 year gap. some shared catharsis... that would be a terribly unhealthy relationship since i think it would be built off mutual loss of kiryu, but still an interesting one to consider. i also have a soft spot for majima/kashiwagi. it came out of nowhere but i actually really like them, even if it kinda is a crackship. something about passionate men fighting on a rooftop, majima being one of the few people to get under kashiwagi's skin and make him lose his cool...
My non-romantic OTP for this character whatever majima and nishitani would have had, had y0 been different. their relationship would be a weird one. i cant see it as a romantic one at all but definitely more than friends. also to reference my own previous answer to this, i think him and akiyama would be wild as friends. i wanna see them interact more bc theyre funny together.
My unpopular opinion about this character i think my thoughts on him are really well put together in an analysis thats been floating around tumblr recently. i know a lot of people have only played 0, k1, and maybe k2, and it seems people focus on his potrayal in k1 especially. they dont get to see the depth that majima has throughout the whole series, and boil him down to "batshit crazy knife guy" when in reality hes probably the opposite of that. hes quite calculating and deliberate, and the post explains it very well. i hope that as the games are now fully available on pc (with the exception of some spin-offs/jpn-only games), more people will play them and see the whole of majima's character instead of shoehorning him into this little niche just because its easier.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon. more!!! screentime!!! i so wish we got to see him more in the later games. as i said he does have some significant beats in 3-6 that really tell the player more about his character, but they could have done so much more with him. ESPECIALLY in 5. hes barely in 5 AT ALL 😭😭😭 i know its for plot reasons but BITCH i just want the cast in general to interact more. im fueled by that kind of thing. wanna see more of majima's relationship with saejima, and with daigo (especially post-y6 shenangans). i want him to interact with haruka and have SOME KIND of relationship to her other than "that guy that beats up my dad sometimes." so much is interpreted or created by the fandom that you start to forget a lot of what DOESNT happen in the games. also. kind of a nitpicky thing but also a pretty big deal when you think about the plot of 5. what the FUCK is the timeline in the 80s. as great a game as y0 is, the dates for it completely fucked up what y5 sets up as majima's backstory. i would like to see that retconned and ironed out in a way that makes sense. changing a few years here and there (as well as changing park's age) would be able to fix it, but that has yet to be addressed... i could go on a whole rant about this (angeles has been the victim of said rant before, but i wont. just to keep this a readable length lmao)
send me a character !
