award shows were always fun, at least to duri. mainly it was because of the music performances, something that duri always enjoyed. the awards didn’t quite matter to duri because he’d be fine if he didn’t get any. though, he’d also be surprised if he did get something. an award was never something that duri had expected, thought it would always be nice to receive one, truth be told. in his own kind of way, he just enjoyed the award shows and basked in the excitement that was seemingly around about others winning. then again, was there really? perhaps it was just some type of excitement he was creating in his mind, in some way. 

his own solo performance being long done and he was finally back out in the outfit that he came in. there was a long while till titan went up on stage, so he had time to enjoy the show itself. he finds himself besides a familiar face, someone who also shares the same debut year as his own group. and of course, what is duri doing? chatting the other’s ear off because he’s a social butterfly and now seemed like the perfect time to do so. 

“what’s been your favorite group stage so far?” duri asked, always curious. “ah, platinum’s stage was really good. you guys always have such great vocals,” he compliments. wasn’t sure if he had a favorite so far. he did really like both platinum’s and selene’s stages. though, he thinks candy might be his favorite, even if he’s going to be watching that one from backstage, rather than in the audience.

there isn’t a whole lot that goes on during these special events. socializing, the sipping of champagne, and some fake smiles as she takes in some compliments from higher ups. suji had a pretty successful year as both a soloist and with her group, so it was unevitable that people will come up to her and try to get a word or two in. the biggest topic seemed to be whatever her next music release would be, and while she’s constantly writing music, there was nothing specific she had in mind. the year’s only begun, and she hadn’t heard anything from gold star in terms of music releases, so she had nothing planned out. for now, at least.

after about a dozen executives coming up to her to ask about her music, she finally found it in herself to excuse herself to a corner table, taking a seat in what seems to be the first time in forever. she had been so desperate to sit down that she hadn’t realized that it was already occupied by someone else. upon finding that it was a familiar face, she let out a sigh of relief. “i think i’ve had about ten different people ask me what my next album was,” she says with a soft chuckle. “and it’s not like i hate discussing it, but i just had nothing to tell them,” she explains though he never really asked.

after parties like this were hardly beneficial for any of the idols, so hyojung wasn’t sure why they were still being called to them. well, she does know, but she just doesn’t see why companies couldn’t be a bit more generous and let them go home. the whole day had been exhausting, and she’s pretty sure she’s not the only one that would appreciate getting off of work already.

nevertheless, she was stuck here along with all the other idols of the three companies. she decided her best option would be to lay low and stay out of the eyes of any other people. there were other more interesting people they could start a conversation with instead, and she’d been doing a pretty good job for the beginning of the party. she’s only had a few head nods from fellow idols and staff members. there was a similarly dead look in a lot of people—she’d say almost everybody except the higher ups who were trying to gather bragging rights.

she thinks she’ll be able to last the whole night like this until she’s proven incorrect by a body literally bumping into her. “oh,” she says before turning around to see who it is. the glass of champagne she has in her hands out of keeping up with appearances is quickly set aside onto the table in front of her as she reaches out to help the platinum member up. “woah, are you okay?”

he’s busting through one drink at a time, slowly but surely letting each droplet sever his throat. burning sensations get old after the first three forced sips, and now he just lets alcohol play in the driver’s seat as he runs towards the passenger’s.

mumble by mumble, he’s had his guard up the whole night. the whole don’t-talk-to-me straight faced frown that thins out, smooths even when he spots an exception to that rule. gyujeong’s steps start slowly, step by step, past the crowd as he bows his head, the room not quite yet spinning. did he learn to take more? or maybe, it’s a placebo and what he’s been drinking all along becomes nothing more than watered down barely tea.

either way, he finds himself in the presence of minhee. “hey.” he shoots a greeting, lined with the monotone of his voice. “you look happier than the last time i saw you.” high-rise smiles, and it doesn’t take a genius to piece one to two things together of reading between the lines. “did being in america cause you to become a happy california person now?”

there’s too many old fashioned’s emptied out, shown by the lines of water-filled glasses in front of her. the taste, sweet no longer bitter, now has her eyes flitting across the floors, in search of a welcoming face in a sea of strangers. old acquaintances, and she shies her gaze away — better ignored than to start a conversation filled with filler semantics and weather-induced chit chats.

so, she stays, weighing down on one foot, then the next. back and forth in a dance of unease, heels pinching further into her feet. 

times like these she wishes there were a simpler way out, maybe a grand escape exit she crafts from the whisper of her manager and a quick getaway cart. but that’s fruitless when she’s back to square one: standing straight, looking for a familiar face — till, she spots on.

walking over, her hands sling halphazardly to the shoulder of a taller friend. one familiar, always warm. “catalyst jace — have i told you that i was in search of you all day? where have you been?” her fingers tug on his jacket, motioning a quick ‘follow-me’. “now that i’ve found you, you can tell me all about where you’ve been because i’m five drinks in deep, and i don’t know how long my memory will hold up.”

in-’verse date: february 3, 2023 (rehearsals) and february 4, 2023 (awards show & afterparty)

deadline: february 11, 2023 at 11:59pm edt / february 12, 2023 at 1:59pm kst

base has announced that they will be holding the first ever base awards at kspo dome on february 4, 2022. the awards show seeks to award talent in all areas of the entertainment industry through the combined opinion of those outside of the industry and those within it to create a unique awards show. exciting performances and a celebration of the last year in the entertainment industry has been promised.

event information:

on february 4, all groups under bc entertainment, dimensions entertainment, and gold star media will attend and perform at the first ever base awards. the event will be held at kspo dome in seoul. awards will be given in areas of performance, acting, variety, hosting, music production, choreography, etc. to both group and solo acts (when applicable).

the awards show will run similarly to typical awards shows, with artists sitting in front of the stage and fans sitting further back, separated from the idols. each group will get their own seating area and each company’s artists will have tables in the same area.

REHEARSALS will be held on february 3, 2023 in the evening. groups will rehearse their stages, but those waiting to rehearse their own stages will be backstage in their given green rooms instead of being able to watch. rehearsals will be focused on translating all performances to the stage and making sure lights, camerawork, audio, etc. is prepared for the real event.

on february 4, all groups will arrive to walk the livestreamed RED CARPET for press photos between 3:30pm and 4:30pm. generally, groups will arrive in the same order as their performance order for the show. each group will stick to a general color scheme as assigned here for a coherent group theme, with their styling personalized to each member. the show will begin at 5:30pm and end at 9:30pm. though idols will expected to be seated in their designated areas in front of the stage during the duration of the show, between arrival and the beginning of the show, they will stay in the backstage area. 

the order of (and detail of) performances and award presentations can be found here. awards not claimed as presented by muses will be presented by npc non-idol actors, singers, and entertainers.

the PRIVATE AFTERPARTY for the awards show will be held on the grounds of aston house at grand walkerhill seoul hotel following the conclusion of the awards show. attendance is optional, but encouraged. food served will feature the finest from the hotel’s various dining venues, including cantonese cuisine, gourmet sandwiches, wine, pizza, gourmet korean fare, modernized korean noble cuisine, hot drinks, and gourmet desserts.

the following roles in the show production may be claimed:

host: one of three main hosts of the show.

solo stage: the muse will perform a solo stage not exceeding 10 minutes and including at least one song for which they are nominated for an award (best ost, best solo song, or best collaboration). there aren’t many limitations other than general idol acceptability and the ability to be performed in real time on a single stage.

award presenter: the muse will introduce and present an award to the winner of up to two individual award categories.

each muse may have no more than two roles in the awards show.

nominations & awards:

all awards involve mun-involvement to some extent. group awards can be directly voted on for the winner of the category, but this votes will be cast by the muse. this means that votes should reflect what the muse would vote for (not the mun’s personal opinion) and muses cannot vote for themselves.

individual awards will be awarded by random name generator, but all muns may choose what awards (if any) their muse is nominated for. all a mun has to do is submit their muse for that category and they will earn a nomination. please note that muns can only submit their own muses.

all works must have started / been released no earlier than january 1, 2022 and ended / finished release no later than december 31, 2022. both points shop claims and established career claims may be nominated if they are within that period. 

individual award nominations and group award voting will be open until january 21, 2023, at 11:59pm edt / january 22, 2023, at 1:59pm kst. final winners will be announced in the days following that.

additional note:

backstage, each idol will be given a survey to fill out and return in a sealed envelope to their manager, who will return the envelope to the appropriate parties. these rankings aren’t for anything awarded during the show, but will instead, the results will be on exclusive’s website the day after the award show. this is a deal between base and exclusive. all idols are assured their votes will be kept anonymous, as there name is not required on the form itself, only the envelope to track who still needs to complete the survey. (note: this is similar in spirit to  ilgan sports’ annual lunar new year survey.)

in game, this event takes place on friday, february 3 and saturday, february 4 but threads and other posts for this event may be started from the time this post goes up to saturday, february 11 at 11:59pm est / sunday, february 12 at 1:59pm kst.

this isn’t jihoon’s first rodeo when it came to hosting. he had the opportunity to host the entertainment awards for mbc in 2021, following by the mbc gayo daejejeon in 2022 and now the base awards in 2023. to say he has gotten over his stage fright and worries about doing something weird on stage would be an understatement. he has never been one for stage fright, however, he has never been one to have to talk at awards shows, unless they were at international events. he was the unfortunate soul in the group that had to stand there and give a speech in english. 

hosting however.. hosting was easy, you had a card with everything written on it and you just had to read it at the appropriate times and move the show forward. however, it is stressful, if you are doing it for the first time. which is why he is currently looking at his groupmate with a raised brow. 

“you excited about this?“ jihoon asks, waving the small cards he was holding in the air, aiming the question about the whole hosting situation. he thinks hyunbin is lucky to have someone with him on stage, and the elder is more than happy to be there for support in any way shape or form.

ash could swear time is moving backwards. he’s restless to take his leave and each moment is longer than the last, succeeding in making his chance to break free from one uncomfortable situation to another seem further away by the moment. 

he’s not even hungry. the thought of picking at any of the seemingly endless array of food offered to them is so entirely unappealing, he hasn’t even ventured near that part of the house, and the shots he’d done before the awards show have long ago worn off. in theory, the afterparty is supposed to be a place to unwind, but he feels more wound than ever.

there’s no rhyme or reason to why he decides to take a seat with gyujeong in a relatively uncrowded area of the ordeal they’re trying to call a party other than defeat and the belief that gyujeong is at least someone who won’t attempt to force happiness on to him like some of the vaguely familiar faces who have called out to him tonight. 

“i don’t think anyone told the organizers of this party that afterparties are at least supposed to be fun,” he tries, testing the waters of conversation if only to give himself something to do. “i don’t know what i honestly expected from the people who forced us to waste several hours of our lives watching them autofellate themselves via guise of awards show, though.”

the evening hadn’t gone quite the way she would have willed it to had she had the power. there’d been no mass sweep of the awards by selene or by mirae herself. she’d won an award for a cover she’d been proud of, but a cover that had taken far less of her effort and commitment than any of her original songs or all of the work she’d put in with gentle monster for their eyewear collaboration. selene had taken home a vocal award and mirae herself had taken home an acting one for squid game, but both had felt like a given on reputation alone — selene’s as a vocal powerhouse and squid game as a massive success.

she’s not fed so much into her own hype that she’s let it get her down, though. she’d fared no worse than any other awards show the past season, really, and numbers and attention speak for themselves regardless of whether she takes home another award to line up on a shelf or not.

it’s a night for celebration — of another year of successes and progress and hard work —, so she lets herself alight with the energy of the party, flitting from group to group with a smile and a bubbling excitement to be in the midst of so many people she knows and the industry she’s come to call her home.

in a sea of laughter and gossip, the absence of a smile doesn’t go unnoticed and her eyes land on minjung when she’s engrossed in a group of other idols she sort-of, kind-of knows, several minutes before she slips away from them to show up at minjung’s side.

“if it isn’t the woman of the evening. best album and best song — that must sweeten the night, huh?” she grins wide and warm. “watch out for next year, though; i’m coming for those titles if i’ve got any say in it.”

since alcohol is off the table, michelle decides to indulge herself by sampling all of the gourmet food options at the after party; her dressed down attire allowing her to feel far more comfortable when it comes to enjoying all of the tasty treats left for she, and the other idols, to nibble on. for a millisecond, she recalls the early days of her career where her managers would be hovering over her shoulders whenever meal time rolled around—their presence often making it an uncomfortable experience as opposed to a relaxing, nourishing one. she can’t help but be eternally thankful that the days of strict dieting are past her now, and now that she’s allowed to maintain herself, she’s been much happier. that being said, she browses the refreshments that are present; all of them appearing far too beautiful to eat. it reminds her of all the bakeries that flood the streets of new york city—all of them showcasing their finest decorating skills in pristine glass cases, making them all the more enticing to the palate.

whenever they could afford the more expensive places, her uncle would take her to a few of them and they’d share a slice of cake while talking about the current events in their lives; this ritual becoming one of her all time favorite pastimes. smiling to herself, she wishes that he was here, and makes a mental note to give him a call the following morning. she’s been busy lately, but that shouldn’t stand in the way of checking in on him. nevertheless, she selects her first dessert—a humongous, stunning chocolate covered strawberry; one of her personal favorites.

turning around, she begins to look for a spot to sit, and in the near distance, she sees a table with only person occupying it. she feels like she recognizes them, but the lighting of the venue makes it hard to decipher their identity. eventually deciding to take the initiative, she picks up a second strawberry before heading their way; gesturing towards the seat nearest them once she’s close enough.

“is it alright with you if i take a seat here?”

minhee was more or less getting to a degree of tipsiness that was gonna call him to head home soon. it was probably for the best, he was getting tired from all these social interactions, but it was probably the alcohol showing his honest opinion about the situation. he's been pushed and pulled into conversation, he feels like he hasn't stopped talking for hours at this point and when he looks at his watch, it shows it wasn't a feeling. it wasn't that late into the night yet, at least not for him but he could notice the party starting to thin out. idols and staff leaving, some together, others alone. it was pretty interesting to see, but his attention is quickly taken away by someone else.

he beams at hayi, smile wide it almost hurts his cheeks, how can he not beam at her? they have only been together, officially at least for a bit over a month, but he is very much aware that their friends will all say something else and he doesn't think he can argue with it. "well well, if it isn't the miss song hayi, what brings you to me?" minhee asks, lifting his glass of whiskey and taking a low sip from it. he isn't sure how exactly he should be acting right about now, but he is keeping his hands to himself. if anything he is more than sure hayi knows this, and the fact that he has has plenty of drinks tonight. shots as well, champagne, some cocktails, he's not really sure anymore, but what he's sure of is the fact that the two of them should also leave sometime soon.

"you look really good tonight." the male comments, his gaze wondering hayi a bit too shamelessly for a public setting, but he pulls himself together. both physically and mentally, as he straightens himself up, shoulders rolling to ease some tension.

excitement of backstage had been brewing. then again, duri always felt the excitement when he was backstage somewhere. perhaps there was none and it just something that duri had been creating himself. but, he was alright with that. 

basically bouncing like a happy dog running through an area, duri had already felt pretty good because he was the second opening act for the evening, having already performed his own solo set. following that, he had gone back to titan’s dressing room to switch his outfit back, just so he wasn’t sat among titan in the simple outfit that he had worn for his solo stage. it wasn’t long, till he was back in the outfit he came in, ready to go back out.

however, it seemed that duri was going to be a bit longer, since he’s run into a familiar face that he hasn’t talked to in a while. a platinum member, someone who he always enjoyed talking to when they came across each other. “hi gyujeong!” he greets him, that usual smile on duri’s lips as he greeted the other. he kind of wipes down his own outfit once more, just to make sure there’s no creases or wrinkles.

everything about suji’s outfit is extremely simple. rather than leaning into the red, her stylists give her an all-white dress, choosing instead to accessorize her with red items. her hair’s pulled up into a bun with a red and gold hair pin acessory on top. while her dress is white, a lot of her accessories are accented red and gold to stand out. no necklace because of the way her dress looks, thus she’s given a few extra rings to wear instead.

it’s no surprise to anyone how he ended up in this predicament. too many bright lights, too much room to talk, and the shitty award he’s been snubbed from — it all culminates into a recipe of drinking himself to oblivion by the time the first hour into the after party.

except, old habits die hard, and when he’s stumbling from one step to the other, truly — he doesn’t believe he’s anywhere remotely drunk. 

example one: he tries to chat up the waiter, brings up a conversation about his childhood years before sloshing the remainder of some watered down drink — presumably, it’s water but at this point, he can’t tell the difference. example two: he chats with some idol he’s crossed paths with once, promises to buy a meal somewhere near the distant future (he’ll never follow through, but he doesn’t know that yet). and then comes example three when he spots mirae from across the room, staggered steps to plop in the empty seat next to her with a great big, “hello.” 

awkward, short — void of any malice inside his tone. instead, it’s chipper, louder than the cacophony of background noise surrounding them. gyujeong clears his throat, propping an elbow on the table to rest his head. “congrats on your award. figured now is the best time to admit i didn’t watch squid games.” and now he’s rambling, but there’s no sobriety to let the words catch up to his head. “not because you were in it, but more so because i don’t like the hyperactive superficiality of trends. i plan on watching it in seven years, after the hype’s died down.”

the surveys spread out, and each line’s written with a lie scribbled in-between what she lines public perception. winners are winners, already script written from the start as she holds to the second drink of the night. 

one conversation talks about dior’s current collection, nepotism to help them secure the bag. another conversation starts with the last song she released, ends when they prod too deep into current whereabouts of a boy she remembers last week. it all ends easy, her fingers waving goodbye before welcoming conversation three — this time, she motions the figure over.

“duri!” she opens her eyes wide, feeling the warmth of the alcohol settling deep inside her stomach. “just who i wanted to see — a big night, today. full of so many awards and cheers, a time to celebrate.” her arms open wide, a show of avant garde dramatics well-established enough to put any bystander to believe she’s too many drinks deep. 

so, she remembers the lessons her father had taught her. folding her hands in front of her, chin resting, she leans forward. “tell me a secret, who did you vote for?”
