I am a huge fan of the reds of Galicia. They are great food wines and refreshing on their own. Today’s wine is from the region of Ribeira Sacra (but is actually labeled Vino de Mesa). Enter the 2017 Fazenda Prádio MRZ. Winemaker Xavi Soeanes produces an amazing line of Galician reds from local grapes. The MRZ is 💯 Merenzao (Trousseau from Jura, France) which is farmed biodynamically on terraced cliffs at 1,150 ft (350 m) overlooking the Miño River. The wine is fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel and then aged in used French oak barrels for eight months. Wonderfully refreshing acidity with notes of fragrant red fruits and minerals.
