this might be a hot take but buck not dropping everything to be there for everyone (yes, including eddie and chris) and not trying to involve himself and trying to fix things he can't, and learning that he doesn't need to always be useful, is actually healthy and mature and character growth and not at all ooc

like, maybe sometimes we need to put ourselves first and have a nice relaxing evening after a hard day, especially when there's nothing we could really do? or do y'all like him only when he's useful to other characters?

(a reminder that buck almost lost his father figure: maybe he wasn't in a place emotionally to be there for eddie that evening, and weren't eddie's parents still there? why would he be there too when maybe eddie was talking things out with them? like I said before, we've really exaggerated buck's role in chris' life)

I am at this moment a little disappointed with this finale. My main issue being that the wrapping of all the storylines was just so rushed, predictable, or underwhelming. And I get it, it was a shortened season, they had less time to write and film than they normally would. But it didn’t hit the way I would have hoped, or in the way press kept hyping it up.

Like it does set up some interesting things for season 8, and I’m still invested to see what happens with the 118. But season 7 came out the gate so strong with the cruise arc, and then week after week it fell flatter and flatter. And I think with the cruise they bit off more than they could chew in order to get it done that the rest of the season and ultimately the finale suffered.

And don’t get me wrong, there were some great moments in season 7, and Bobby’s episode is still one of my favourites. But yeah, just a little let down by this conclusion.

If I could get a rewrite fic for this season that would be great!

I mean seen from another perspective, her obsession with the idea that he's a sex worker and her reaction to that belief seems to indicate an ego-protective mechanism at work, a cognitive dissonance that allows her to avoid confronting her feelings about how she was treated in her previous job, where she was ostensibly employed as a legal professional and then expected to entertain handsy clients after hours. And the irony that it was overhearing *his* conversation in that same restaurant with a client who wanted sexual favours from him, and how he flatly rejected those advances, that gave her the courage to walk out and resign on the spot - but even that inspiration was ultimately whorephobic because her takeaway from that scene was if he, a mere sex worker, can assert his right to walk away from a deal he doesn't want, then she, a highly educated lawyer, ought to have even less qualms about leaving an undesirable job. But then again her whorephobia is integral to this narrative tension that's being established, where she has fundamentally mistaken the power dynamic between herself and him, her accidental temporary roommate. She's being set up for a grand reversal when she realises he's not a sex worker, he's her new lawyer employer and named partner in the firm she's just taken a job with. But is the narrative going to punish her for assuming he was a loser/traitor under the patriarchy, a man who inverted the power dynamic by serving women's sexual needs, rather than the other way around? Or is it going to take her to task for the way she treats sex workers?
