On Feb. 23, 1999 the first Danish satellite was successfully launched into space. The satellite was named after the eminent Danish physicist H.C. Ørsted, and its mission was to chart Earth’s magnetic field with high precision. The mission was a success and rather than transmit data for 14 months as the stipulated goal was, Ørsted kept transmitting for 14 years...

Andersen and God as Father and Child
It’s not surprising that Andersen, who was both fatherless and without a family, should be so strongly preoccupied with the idea of God as the loving father of every individual. Since he, as a child, had presumably often eaten spoiled food or had no food whatsoever, Andersen would inevitably covet better and cleaner conditions when he finally escaped from Odense, the filthy and unhealthy site of his childhood. For that reason, there is a direct link between the cautious attempts in the young Andersen’s first essays to include his own fate in a larger, divine pattern and the older Hans Christian Andersen’s unshakable faith in God as the merciful, paternal Providence who -as Andersen wrote in one school essay- governs “the great order that we can trace in all of nature.” As early as the 1820s, we can speak of a faith with roots in the writer’s piety and skepticism, as well as in Krog Meyer’s textbook and the Romantic era’s philosophy of nature. Over the next decades, partially under the influence of the physicist H.C. Ørsted, this would all merge in the adult Andersen’s attempt to write tales about “the spirit in nature,” in which he explained the world as an outpouring of God - as it’s so beautifully stated in one of his school essays. “The human soul is a spark from the eternal flame. The storm is His voice, the clouds and waves His raiment, and the whole earth a humble flower in His glorious crown.” [... ... In another essay] the text shifts from the fairy-tale-like opening into a more theological explication of the basis for the Creation and the greatness of the human spirit. Even though the initial fairy-tale aspects now disappear entirely from the text, the deliberations presented in the rest of the essay are no less original. The young essayist says, for instance, that the power behind Creation can be defined as “the childlike spirit that animated the first humans, the almighty God, who so miraculously developed everything more and more. Aren’t the ideas about the creation of the earth childlike?” Young Andersen doesn’t hesitate to set an equal sign between “God” and “childlike spirit,” and in the rest of the essay we hear that it is not boring, adult reason, but rather the child’s sparkling imagination that has marked the development of all cultures and peoples. The twenty-year-old Andersen hails homo ludens -the playful human- and the essay’s mature message is quite simply that grown-ups must learn to kneel before the child. Only that way will their small, down-to-earth worlds expand.

Kalix River Bridge design proposal by Erik Andersson Architects:

The Swedish Traffic Administration has commissioned Erik Andersson Architects to design a proposal for a new bridge over Kalix River, according to the architects. More than a mere crossing, the proposed bridge introduces a new public space where people can enjoy the sun and get closer to the water. It will also provide shelter from the elements thanks to a protected walkway.
The existing bridge over Kalix River will be replaced by a new one in 2019. As part of the initial design process, The Swedish Traffic Administration wanted to look into the possibility of introducing new features to the upcoming bridge, making it a central gathering place for the residents of Kalix.
As a solution, Erik Andersson Architects came up with a proposal offering separate routes for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, as well as creating public spaces such as viewing platforms and seating areas.

In the design, car and cycle lanes running on top of the bridge are separated from pedestrians below. The walkway is placed under the driveway, using the top as a roof and facing south in order capture the warmth of the sun.
This is Erik Andersson’s first project in Kalix, a municipality located in Norrbotten County in northern Sweden. The firm has previously designed bridges in Norrköping, Hammarby Sjöstad and Nynäshamn, and is currently working on a new bridge in Hagastaden, Stockholm, Sweden.

New understanding of the evolution of cosmic electromagnetic fields
New understanding of the evolution of cosmic electromagnetic fields
[ad_1]
Next year is the 200 years anniversary of the discovery of electromagnetism by the Danish physicist H.C. Ørsted. Even 200 years after its discovery, the existence of electromagnetism still brings up new puzzles pertaining to their origin.
One such mystery is the origin of electro magnetic fields on the very largest scale in the universe.
While researchers have believed for some time that…

Hans Christian Andersen – Ein fiktives Interview I Teil 2
Tumblr media
„Hans Christian Andersen.

DONG Energy To Change Company Name To ØRsted
Following the profound strategic transformation from black to green energy and the recent divestment of the upstream oil and gas production, the name DONG Energy does not fit the company anymore.
Consequently, DONG Energy has today called an Extraordinary General Meeting to ask the shareholders of the company to approve a change of the company name to Ørsted.
Thomas Thune Andersen, Chairman of the Board of Directors, says:
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
“DONG was originally short for Danish Oil and Natural Gas. With our profound strategic transformation and the divestment of our upstream oil and gas business, this is no longer who we are. Therefore, now is the right time to change our name.”
Thomas Thune Andersen continues:
“Our vision is a world that runs entirely on green energy. Climate change is one of the most serious challenges facing the world today, and to avoid causing serious harm to the global ecosystems, we need to fundamentally change the way we power the world by switching from black to green energy,” Thomas Thune Andersen concludes.
Henrik Poulsen, CEO of DONG Energy, says:
“2017 will be remembered as the year when offshore wind became cheaper than black energy, as demonstrated by the recent tenders for offshore wind in Germany and the UK. It has never been more clear that it is possible to create a world that runs entirely on green energy. The time is now right for us to change our name to demonstrate that we want to help create such a world.”
From green transformation to green growth
Over the past decade, DONG Energy has transformed itself from an energy company based on coal and oil to a global leader in renewable energy. The company has increased earnings considerably, while reducing the use of coal in its power stations and building out new offshore wind farms (see below). Since 2006, carbon emissions have been reduced by 52%, and by 2023, they will have been reduced by 96% compared to 2006.
Henrik Poulsen, CEO of DONG Energy, says:
“Today, we’re dedicated to green energy. Our focus going forward will be on green growth based on our existing business platforms in offshore wind, biomass, green customer solutions and advanced waste-to-energy solutions. We’ll also explore new green growth opportunities to strengthening our existing platform, if they support our vision, provide a strong competitive position and create value for our shareholders.”
DONG Energy has divested its upstream oil and gas business and decided to stop all use of coal. In addition, the company has established a new storage team to explore new business opportunities in energy storage. DONG Energy has also established a new corporate ventures unit in Silicon Valley, California, to explore emerging energy technologies and potential long-term business opportunities.
As battery storage and new energy technologies mature and as a more flexible demand side is developed, natural gas will, in the coming years, continue to support the transition to an entirely green energy system. DONG Energy will continue to trade in and sell natural gas to its customers, facilitating the bridge to a world that runs entirely on green energy.
The new name and brand
The new name – Ørsted – references the innovative Danish scientist Hans Christian Ørsted (1777-1851). Ørsted spearheaded several scientific discoveries, including the discovery of electromagnetism in 1820, which helped lay the scientific foundation for how today’s societies are powered.
As part of becoming Ørsted, a new logo and brand identity will be introduced. The new brand identity is inspired by the Danish design tradition in being simple, functional and human and supporting a sustainable way of life. The brand identity will consist of a full spectrum of colours, inspired by Scandinavian nature and the Danish 20th century artist Vilhelm Lundstrøm.
Henrik Poulsen says:
“We’ve undertaken significant efforts to find the right name and brand identity for our company. Our new name recognises H.C. Ørsted’s curiosity, dedication and interest in nature and our brand identity speaks to the innovation and profound understanding of nature, which is vital to creating a world that runs entirely on green energy.”
Extraordinary General Meeting
The planned name change will necessitate an amendment of the company’s Articles of Association. An Extraordinary General Meeting will be held on 30 October 2017 to formally decide the name change.
The notice convening the Extraordinary General Meeting is enclosed.
As a consequence of the name change, DONG Energy will change its stock exchange ticker to Orsted. The change in ticker will become effective from the start of trading on 31 October 2017, assuming a positive outcome at the general meeting.
The roll out of the new name and design across DONG Energy’s markets, will begin on 6 November
Radius Power Distribution
The Danish power distribution company Radius, which is wholly owned by DONG Energy and has a separate brand identity, will not be affected by the changes in company name and brand identity. Radius was renamed from DONG Energy El Distribution to Radius Elnet on 1 April 2016 and was given its own distinct visual identity to make it easier for our Danish customers to distinguish between the power distribution company and the rest of DONG Energy.
The information in this announcement does not change DONG Energy’s previous financial guidance for the financial year 2017 or the announced expected investment level for 2017.
